Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@MelissaLouRocks you sound in such an upbeat mood even as you head back in. I love it!!!

I found my original post on thread one. 14.1 on the day I ordered. 14 on the day it arrived and I injected. Indeed two and half months ago. @GloriaBunniford You sound so sad. Honestly I never thought I’d be here this much lighter not long on, but I’m eating for health and the women on this thread are amazing company as we go through the highs, lows, plateaus and stalls together.

😳

Edited

Yes, I am sad.
I'm very sad. I feel trapped like a prisoner inside a very heavy body that I can't get out of despite fighting for 13 years to shed these extra stones. It's so heavy and tiring carrying this much weight around.

AgathaMystery · 30/04/2024 19:45

Well you may have found your people! There is another thread on here for people with >30kg to loose which you will probably also find really helpful. There are lots of weight loss scheme veterans on here. Lots x

Thank you!
I would like to lose 4 stone which is about 25ish kg.
What I should do is read all 7 threads. I've only read number 7.
It would be interesting to read if other people have failed on WW or SW or calorie counting, etc. I've always thought it's just me that fails.

AgathaMystery · 30/04/2024 19:54

I am pretty confident that between us we have all tried every scheme. Every diet. Every. Single. One.

I had 28kg to loose. 7 has gone so a long way to go still

FlappyFish · 30/04/2024 19:58

You’ll make me all emotional people!!

I took 2.5 for 5 weeks and 5 for 8 weeks so far so think it is. I’ve been using the bonus dose too.

Trapped inside a body is a good way to describe how it feels. I don’t think I realised how exhausting it was being big until I wasn’t as big. That’s looking back over the 6.5 stone total loss since 2015, not just the MJ loss.

Weightless veterans is a great way to describe it. We’ve all been though a bloody battle to realise our hormones and head sabotaged us all along. That we are not just greedy week people.

Let me find and redo my biggest until today photo.

FlappyFish · 30/04/2024 20:00

Hell, no Gloria! I’ve failed every diet plan because I feel deprived. Then I binge. Then I stuff my face with everything forbidden. Then I feel shame so intense I repeat it to push down the emotions. I rewarded with food. I have as upset with food. I needed food for every emotion possible.

MJ has stopped all that. It’s changing my life.

MelissaLouRocks · 30/04/2024 20:03

Congrats on your awesome progress @FlappyFish, you are an inspiration to us all even if you don't know it.

Am quite upbeat about going back in this time! I know I'm making real progress in many areas for the first time in years, and not waking every morning wishing I'd been taken in the night. And I won't need the damned morphine pump this time, so won't be pinned down and may be able to goalkeep my own bananas. 🍌 🤗 🍌

FlappyFish · 30/04/2024 20:04

Here’s my complete before and after. 6.5 stone between them and a LOT of years. I will find me at 14 at the start of MJ too. I’m wearing all size 12 in that after photo at 11.11.

Evening all, some great progress being made on here and lovely to see new people being inspired. @FlappyFish looks like you'll be the first to get to goal so should probably be our Mounjaro thread poster-girl Grin
@MelissaLouRocks oh no, not again! Hope it's not a long stay and you get a better sleep this time.
@Soukmyfalafel I have similar challenges regarding cooking for hungry teenagers. I've made an effort to reduce portions for everyone as ours were ridiculous (as DS2 pointed out when he came back from his girlfriend's!). Inputting my meals to MFP for the calories/protein is teaching me a lot about how heavy some of our home cooked meals are. I switched to 5% fat beef mince after always thinking it was pointless. The calorie difference is huge!

I actually measured out portions of oven chips earlier and even doubling the portion on the packaging (a ridiculous 80g!) is less than we'd have had before.

I'm currently wearing a glucose monitor, as we've been sent some at work to use for training purposes, before we start putting them on patients. I love a new toy. More data for me to obsess over! Will be interesting to see how my blood sugars react while on this. My fasting blood glucose was in the pre diabetic range before but my HbA1C is fine. Probably because I was doing intermittent fasting (not losing weight though, I am eat a LOT of calories in 6 hours!).

Following my earlier post re Med Express codes expiring, I've been on the hunt... 🔍

I've found quite a few codes, although they seem in date, they do sometimes get pulled earlier. So I'll list them here with amount of discount, code, and expiry if one is mentioned. Sadly I cannot try them out prior to posting as my account is locked until next week.

If anyone has any success, I'd be grateful if you could feed back so we know what's a waste of time and what's not, in the meantime I'll keep looking.

I've just had a try with all of them and it says they're either expired or comes up with "This discount cannot be used with this product"

I was trying to order a 5mg as a new customer (gonna stick on 5 for another month) and was going to send my proof etc afterwards.

I wonder whether that's the problem?

If anyone else has any luck with the codes do let us know.

Thank you for finding them though 🙂

Hi everyone hope you don't mind me joining. I'm on week 2 of my Mounjaro journey. Lost 2.8lb in the first week. Took my second injection last night and I'm dying either way the sulphur burps! Does anyone have anything that helped them?

Just spotted this. I get these. One week I took Esomeprazole and it worked very well. The following week it did not work quite as well but helped a bit.

As a teen, I weighed no more than 9 st. I gained weight then lost it with WW by the time I was 23. I was able to maintain around 11 stone until I hit my 30’s then it piled on. I lost it and stayed at about 12 stone or so and then 40’s came and boom, menopause arrived and nothing I tried would work. I’ve tried WW, SW, 5/2, fast 800/intermittent fasting, low carb and calorie counting and I’d lose and gain the same 3-4lbs. It’s been like this for about 5 years. I’m nearly 5 years since my last period now and I’m only 47! I gave up the fags 3 years ago which hasn’t helped.

I weigh and measure on the last day of each month and have done for years. That’s what you do when you try yet again and desperately want to believe that this attempt is the one where it’ll take. On 31st March I was 10lb heavier than today and multiple inches wider. The inches are thanks to the gym and MJ combined. What pisses me off is the info online about menopausal weight loss. They don’t tell you that you need probably 200-300 calories less than the TDEE thing. MJ has really been life changing for me, it really has

40thinks · 30/04/2024 20:59

Has anyone else had an issue with Royal Mail?

Ordered my 4th pen from Asda online doctor last week and it was despatched last Thurs for delivery last Fri (24 tracked). It didn’t turn up on Friday, nor Saturday, Monday or Tuesday. Royal Mail tracking has not been updated since 9.30am last Friday when it states they delivered it to the wrong depot (though still in same county) and is being re-routed

I’ve spoken to the Asda online doctor on the phone and they’ve said it can still be used if delivered this week as can be out the fridge for 30 days from despatch and if I started it straight away I could take all 4 doses within 30 days (not withstanding this would be difficult as on holiday for 4th dose so was going to delay it a few days and would also mean taking 1st dose slightly early)

Anyway I’m not convinced that it’s going to be delivered at all and I’m due to start this new pen on Sunday coming (got 5th dose out of previous pen last weekend). Asda said they have to wait for another week or 2 to make a claim from Royal Mail so won’t send a replacement or refund yet. I’m tempted to just order from another provider and insist Asda refund me, accepting I’ll be out of pocket initially as I don’t think it’s going to be viable to use Asda pen even if it does turn up. I know it’s RM’s fault, not theirs but they’ve chosen to use RM as their delivery provider.

Any thoughts on what to do?

Could I ask for some advice?
If I've failed to lose weight on WW, SW, CC, keto, fasting......then how will I lose weight using Mounjaro?
I spent 6 months eating 1 meal a day. Every day. I'm not exagerrating. I was so desperate to lose weight that I cut down to only eating dinner each day and nothing else. Guess how much weight I lost after 6 months? Nothing. Not 1 ounce. Seriously, I think I should put myself up for medical research. It's not normal.
I'm working my way through the 7 threads, there's a lot to read through, but I'm enjoying them.
But I'm interested that some people say "It's witchcraft" whilst others say "it helps control hunger which in turn means you eat less". But if I've gone through extended long periods of time eating a lot less through sheer iron willpower and not lost a pound, then how will I lose weight on Mounjaro?
Is it simply calorie control, or is there something else that it does too?
