Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@CoffeeWithMyOxygen if this happens again please do not reinsert the same needle. It can cause a fair bit of damage/infection. It is good to have a few spares in case something like this happens again.

Pigriver · 30/04/2024 11:44

I've been away since Friday (arrive home late last night) and haven't weighed in yet.
We stayed half board which was fine as I made sensible choices and lots of walking BUT we paid for the adult only lounge that had drinks/snacks and this was a bad move (paid before started MJ). Drinks weren't too bad as I stuck to diet coke and white wine/cava but having snacks out all day wasn't great. Someone else mentioned the 'free food' issue or even worse 'already paid for' food. I had come to the end of the week and was due another dose but food in eyeshot wasn't great. I think my brain was telling me to eat and that I was hungry but I realised I have no real understanding of when I'm hungry. My stomach doesn't growl. I just feel empty and my back/ribs hurt. Very odd. I think I eat out of routine/habit/availability/boredom. I will really need to learn to listen to my body more.
Appetite suppression is still going even though my dose was due on Sunday. I took my parents out for breakfast to thank them for looking after the kids and I struggled to eat a bacon sandwich while they have a full breakfast.
Just off to take my next dose now and I think I need a few days of drinking water before I weigh again!

ObsidianTree · 30/04/2024 11:53

@rainbowsandinfinitesparkles that doesn't sound good about being stopped at BMI 25. I was hoping they might let you go until BMI 23.

I think I need to get to about 11st 7 or 11st 10lbs to get to BMI 25. That would mean I have about 3 stone to get to that.

I can only hope for a big stall so I can I stay on the meds until they decide we can have it for longer if we wish! Lol

I’ve been moaning about my mounjaro cold feet for ages and yesterday my husband surprised me with a pair of cashmere bed socks.

Can’t believe I’ve gone from a vehement anti-socks in bed stance to massively pro bed socks. That’s probably a bigger change than the weight loss!

Losingmymind85 · 30/04/2024 12:11

Weight loss has stalled in the last two weeks. Haven't lost a thing. I think I'm hovering around 1100-1300 calories a day.
I spent my whole adult life at 9 1/2 stone. Then menopause hit and things went to shit. I wasn't eating any differently but I just packed the weight on. Mounjaro has really driven home to me that my weight gain and obsession with sugar is due to hormone imbalances. Really not sure how I'll manage once I hit my goal weight and there's no maintenance option. Really can't go back to the way things were.

April88 · 30/04/2024 12:18

Anyone know how long med express are taking to dispatch existing customers orders? I’ve ordered before and want to order 7.5mg today using my discount code (expires today) but not home until Friday afternoon.

Won’t bother if it’s super quick, as won’t be home to refrigerate

ObsidianTree · 30/04/2024 12:21

@April88 they are pretty quick with existing customers. I ordered the 7.5mg when it came out and it was despatched the next day and delivered the day after. So maybe order tomorrow evening?

Well done for getting under 12 stone but it isn't 11st 9.

Here's a conversion chart

www.uhsussex.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Weight-Conversion-Chart.pdf

Alternatively 76.1kg x 2.2 = 167.4lbs

167.4 divided by 14 lbs = 11.959 so 11 stone with almost another stone left over.

11stone x 14lbs = 154lbs. So there's 167.4 - 154 = 13.4lbs leftover.

You are now 11stone 13.4lbs.

I'm too heavy to be on that chart Sad

ObsidianTree · 30/04/2024 07:06

Did you take it from new 7.5mg pen? Or from the 5mg pen?

From my new pen. I did feel better after breakfast though 🙂

It reminds me of the slight morning nausea I had with Wegovy. It usually went away with my morning cup of tea and this did too. Hopefully won’t get too much worse but also I hope this means I will get more appetite suppression too.

Really not sure how I'll manage once I hit my goal weight and there's no maintenance option. Really can't go back to the way things were.

I totally gave up sugar for several months a decade ago when I had gestational diabetes and although I do now have it occasionally I found my sweet tooth had more or less disappeared when I did eat it again. I do think it’s addictive and totally cutting it out is probably for the best to lose the taste for sweetness if nothing else. So could use this respite from the cravings to just stop it? I really didn’t find it that awful to be sugar-free once I got going - although you really do see how sugar obsessed we are as a culture and how it is ingrained as a treat food everywhere you turn. I’m now completely used to turning down office cake for example but it felt really rude and antisocial at first to look like I wasn’t joining in!

Moanranger · 30/04/2024 12:42

@Wonkypictureframe @Losingmymind85
I have this mental category of “not food” and I put in it chips, all office treats, popcorn at the cinema, all packaged chocolate, etc,etc
Then when I am in a situation where it’s offered, I decline, thinking “that’s not food”
(I learned a lot of useful psychological/ behavioural stuff at Lighter Light yonks ago. V useful, the packaged food, not so much!)

I ordered Friday morning and received mine on Saturday, it was super speedy.

AgathaMystery · 30/04/2024 13:03

I agree re:not food. Most of the stuff offered at work etc is not food.

yes it can feel anti social to not eat with people but equally, what’s really anti social is me being dead coz I got so fat my BP caused a massive stroke. So I do cheer myself up with that one 😂

MendaciousMabel · 30/04/2024 13:18

My 5mg pen arrived today from the family chemist. I won't be using it for another 2 weeks, took my third 2.5mg dose today. Should I be worried that the family chemist didn't ask me for any evidence that I've already been prescribed 2.5mg elsewhere?

WannabeHealthier · 30/04/2024 13:19

Justkeeprollingalong · 30/04/2024 08:59

Really interesting @WannabeHealthier but I wonder why my hormones should drive me to eat my way back to an obese weight rather than the healthy weight I was for most of my adult life.
I've been reading other research and the consensus seems to be that one can maintain weight loss after Mounjara provided that healthy eating and exercise is maintained. A return to former lifestyle/eating habits will of course cause weight to be regained.

I think you hit the nail on the head… I think it depends on whether the excess weight is recent or not ie what is your “set weight “. For me, unfortunately I have been obese for years. I’ve always put weight back on after a diet, despite eating healthy (I cook everything from scratch) but I’m definitely driven to overeat- not by very many calories, but enough to put on weight. I don’t eat fast food or takeaways but I do get tempted by chocolate and crisps! I don’t buy them in my weekly shopping but they appear at work, family and friends, places we take the kids etc… and I find it so difficult to resist

I love this! It’s so true. I’m actually going to start being truthful when people tell me ‘ you only live once’ when I say I’m not drinking, attending boozy brunches and opting for walking/coffee catch ups. Because I have dangerously high cholesterol, BP & I’m taking 4 medications to control these things and you’re so right you do only live once and I want to live as long as I can in better health than I am now!

It's maybe not ideal but they are a registered pharmacy so I don't think you need to worry about whether it's genuine or not. Did they ask for photos or anything? I did a bit of checking of pharmacy inspections are the ones that are the strictest about photos appear to have recent inspections from the overseeing body and have had a ticking off over this.

Ordered my 7.5mg from pharmacy2u. I’ve stuck with them as bmi only overweight now and don’t want any issues plus been impressed with service. Last 5mg tonight.
I ate junk for first time since starting last night. Had a crap day at work and fed up sticking and not losing. Didn’t feel ill after but back focused today.

FlappyFish · 30/04/2024 14:37

@Investinmyself great way to think and we will never not eat junk again! Totally get those feelings. The, “Well, I’m not losing so I may as well eat something junky then sod it button.”

We just move on. It’s amazing to watch our thought patterns change too.

On the periods going random… I just started a day early. Day 24.

What is interesting this month is I have had no PMS cravings and EAT ALL THE CARBS AND CHEESE!

Last month I did. Gained weight before I started period, bloated, stalled.

This month. Nothing. I may water retain yet.

Posting this as my first period on MJ was like this.

MJ has so much impacted on many things. I’m not sure how much weight loss is changing it too.

My BMI is now 25.8 😳
