Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@ObsidianTree thank you.

What would you do with the bonus dose? I tend to have about 0.6 when extracted with a needle. Im not sure how much that actually it. Could I add that to my 5?

Each whole dose is 0.6ml.

ObsidianTree · 29/04/2024 21:19

How's everyone finding the 7.5mg so far that decided to take it?

OP posts:
NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 29/04/2024 21:40

@ObsidianTree only took my first a couple of hours ago, I'll keep you updated. Have you started 7.5?

Yes. I took it yesterday. Felt fine last night but today feel cold and not hungry.

Haven't got the thirst I used to get. But that went away when I got used to the 5mg dose.

NextPrimeMinister · 29/04/2024 21:56

@ObsidianTree I've realised I can't count!

You're right, I have 20 left, including the bonus does.

EsotericMnemonic · 29/04/2024 22:03

@luftbalooon I have felt cold, achey and generally unwell after the jab. I think I slept for a whole afternoon after the first 2.5mg injection. It has improved compared to the first jab but I still experience it 8 weeks in. Don’t think those side effects are particularly common.

Justkeeprollingalong · 29/04/2024 22:13

I'm on my first week of Mounjaro. Could someone please explain about the bonus dose that keeps being mentioned? Thanks

In each pen there is actually a 5th dose when there is meant to be just 4 doses. Unfortunately the pen doesn't twist again easily after the 4th dose. So you either have to twist really hard to get it to twist again to get the 5th dose, or some people buy insulin needles to draw out the last dose.

Soukmyfalafel · 29/04/2024 22:35

Hmm I haven't had much appetite supression this evening. I've not eaten terribly today, but probably screwed my deficit up this evening. Think I will do my next 5mg jab tomorrow a day and a half early. I have no idea how long I've been on this now, but I think I have a normal dose and bonus left.

I was wondering about counting clicks too, but I think I will just tab when I feel the appetite suppression is waning. The extra dose means you get the 4 weeks still.

You'd think they would use a different name by now. 😂

ObsidianTree · 29/04/2024 22:44

Switch to medExpress. They don't cost much more than Voy, and will mean you don't have to keep posting your code every few days to try and get people to sign up! Most of us on here are already signed up to places so you are unlikely to get anyone to sign up!

Codes for MedExpress MED20P or STARTNOW

The amount they lost changed on a few threads!

I thought so too. But just wondering why they keep creating usernames and keep spamming with voy codes. Are they are real person? Or Voy advertising!

A bit odd isn't it? I've just reported them again, the Voy thing grinding my gears. I understand people trying, but wish they'd keep it on one thread.

I've reported it too.

It is annoying when people just sign up to mumsnet to come on and post their Voy code.

I've taken Voy off the list of options of where to buy it. Don't want to encourage the continuation of them 😂

No offense to the people that like Voy. I'm just not a fan of their business model. Would make more sense if they just charged a lower price as most people that join don't want to pay £229 a month!

Edited

I had the cold and achiness very strongly after the first jab, somewhat after the second jab, achiness went by third but still coldness for a day or so.

Morning after my first 7.5 mg dose and I feel sick. 🤢 hopefully will feel better with some beakfast.

ObsidianTree · 30/04/2024 06:47

I've seen someone report on a Facebook group that they took 7.5mg and are having a major reaction.

Now I know we've speculated in the past, but I do wonder if the 7.5mg from the pens are stronger as they were more recently manufactured than the 2.5mg and 5mg we were buying.

Has anyone taken 7.5mg from the new pens?

If so, how are you feeling etc?

Obviously I've only seen 1 person report these side effects so I might be paranoid, but maybe we should be cautious when taking 7.5mg from the new pens.

I was contemplating taking a dose before I went on hol of my new pen as it will be due the weekend before I go, but I won't now. Will definitely take a break and start my 7.5mg when I return from hol. I will have to start slow after a break anyway so will take about 2.5mg from it initially.

Morning all

So for my weekly weigh in yesterday the scales put me at 12 stone 1 (after a battery change as they were running low)

Yet this morning they say I'm 11 stone 9! Does that even seem possible? I'm wondering whether they're on the blink... could this be the famous 'whoosh' I'm hearing about?!

If it's right then I'm very happy as I've been desperate to see 11 on the scales 🙂

ObsidianTree · 30/04/2024 07:14

@BlackFriYay did you move the scales a bit and check again? If it's still 11st 9 then I would take it! What a woosh! Well done!
