Continuing Mounjaro...part 6

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Just watching the youtube video posted yesterday. Retatutide looks like an interesting drug. Too late for us, but would be interesting when its released.

Just hope one day they make something for maintenance that we can all still take if we want to!

@LilyDxoxo I’ve been losing and gaining the same 3lbs for three weeks now I think. Or it sure feels like it. I’m keeping going. It will go down eventually. A lot of us are stalling and weight loss is slowing. But it’s also not realistic to keep losing 4lbs plus a week as our weight drops.

It is annoying as hell. I’m not eating more. But it is what it is and I’m still 2 stone down!

ObsidianTree · 23/04/2024 12:51

Hopefully it's ok @MendaciousMabel

Ah it's rubbish isn't it 😌 I can't complain I've still lost 17 pounds but I just love seeing the scales going down and they aren't at the moment, 2 stone is amazing well done you!!

Sabblue · 23/04/2024 10:45

@susiedaisy1912 thanks! Was yours open as well? The outer box was perfect no bends so couldn’t really be becouse of that, it had be before being packed in the box

Yes it was so squashed that the box had popped open.

CiderJabs · 23/04/2024 13:20

Somehow I'm 1.8lbs heavier today than I was last week 🤬

No idea why. Took my second 5mg last night and other than feeling very cold, I've no other side effects.

I know it's to be expected but I'm still annoyed.

Pigriver · 23/04/2024 13:25

Week 8 and a bit and have had my first toilet incident 😳 literally had to run this morning and had the fear I wouldn't make it. Felt a bit off all day. Not great when you are trying to run a nursery! Struggling to eat much at the minute which I think is making me more nauseous. Got new electrolytes (mango flavour) and the first sip tasted like the retro alchopop Reef 🤢

Soukmyfalafel · 23/04/2024 13:44

I did try to email med express, but it says upto 3 days to respond.

I am going to put my starting weight in the questions and the leave a note saying I want move from Asda and continue treatment with them and then give them my actual weight now and box prescription images. Thanks to the AI I can't get through without it. Worth a try I suppose. I don't want to wait days for an email that won't come.

I'm kicking myself as I was going to use med ex in the first place but was spooked as I never heard of them. Would have saved ££'s going with them. I hope I can move to them.

RunningAndSinging · 23/04/2024 13:48

No update from Bolt yet - they say they will dispatch as soon as they have it but they have taken the 7.5 off their website which is a bit worrying. Virtual Slimming Clinic have e mailed to say they have the 7.5 in stock. Just hoping I didn’t jump too early to the wrong people.

MendaciousMabel · 23/04/2024 14:02

I'm not at 7.5mg yet but Boots online doctor have a banner saying they don't have it.

BlackFriYay · 23/04/2024 14:20

Mortigua · 23/04/2024 09:54

Anyone else with anxiety? Hoping it’s a hormonal thing but wondering (anxiously 😬) if it’s since I’ve been up to the 5mg and if 7.5 will be worse

I definitely had increased anxiety last week after the bonus dose but can't be sure it was because of the mounjaro as it didn't start until 4 days post injection. I am quite an anxious person in general 😬

I'm day 2 on the 5mg and no anxiety as of yet so possibly coincidental.

NCfor24 · 23/04/2024 14:24

I've emailed MedExpress to ask them to give me my birthday discount code again so I can order 7.5mg. I still have 3x 5mg to go though, but I'd rather have it ready and waiting... especially as demand is high.
I don't really know how 5mg is working for me yet, as I injected into thigh on Saturday evening...minimal side effects which makes me fear it's ineffective, despite the fact I'm still able to follow a healthy diet without cheating...so I know it IS working. I just thought I'd feel something more, somehow! It's almost anticlimactic, the lack of side effects and the fact I do want to eat! But it affects us all differently.

Ghilliedu · 23/04/2024 14:29

could I ask for some advice from anyone who has changed supplier? I’m currently with Asda and couldn’t fault their service, and also the fact they give a box of 6 needles which will be handy for the bonus dose but even factoring needles in it’s still significantly more expensive than other places.
I was thinking about switching to the family chemist since med express originally rejected me based on my photo. Has anyone done this and how easy was it? Thanks!

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 23/04/2024 14:36

I switched to the Family Chemist from Juniper and had no issues.

Thank you @BlackFriYay i hope it’s coincidental . Things are generally hard so it’s difficult to know

Thanks @NoMoreCoffeePlease

was there a section on their consultation form to add a photo of your existing box or add anything about why you’re ordering a higher dose or did you contact them out with that?

Choux · 23/04/2024 14:55

Usernameisnotavailable0 · 23/04/2024 07:36

@Choux I've swapped today too, to Medexpress. Have you sent new body photo too?

Yes I had to send a photo and ID. I tried to make myself look as bad as possible as I am now only overweight rather than obese. I do have high cholesterol though (or did pre Mounjaro).

I also added 2lbs to my current weight so i scraped into the obese category just in case that was an issue.

I was asked this morning for proof of my previous Bolt prescription despite me messaging them with the details l last night so I sent it again and am now waiting for their decision. Fingers crossed.

ObsidianTree · 23/04/2024 15:04

Wow. My medexpess order is already dispatched and on its way!

There is an option to add a photo but I didn't. I emailed them after placing the order with more information (my BMI, that I was already on 2.5, and other meds I am on). The chemist got back to me pretty much instantly to confirm.

I ordered my last pen at 4pm on Friday, got it 9:15 Saturday morning. Got to be some kind of record! Really hoping the 7.5 works for you. 😊

WannabeHealthier · 23/04/2024 15:11

Wow this thread moves fast!

I noticed these ready meals at my local Co-Op and thought I’d share. I rarely eat ready meals but they are a good standby if my family gets a takeout etc. High protein (up to 30g each) and low in calories (under 400).

And while I’m recommending stuff, I have been a bit worried about the effect of rapid weight loss on my face, so using this face floss cream I spotted people raving about on TikTok which is helping with hydrating my skin and reducing lines/ making it less crepey (it even reduces the discolouration of aging marks, dark circles). It’s great stuff and made by a small British brand called Smoom:
