Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Absolutely @Flapearedknave , I didn't respond at all to OZ (wgy) even at the highest dose, yet am so pleased with my progress on just 5mg MJ that I decided not to go up to 7.5mg just yet.

I assumed, quite wrongly, that wegovy and Oz and mj were all the same. I know wegovy is supposed to be the same as Oz, but that wasn't my experience at all.

I am so happy it's now working I could dance haha.

I just want the space to be able to retune my body into wanting, and not just enjoying healthier food.

I go to Italy in a couple of weeks with my brothers. We are big foodies and big winos, I think it's my last 5 before we go, so I think I'll be able to enjoy that. Then start the 7.5, and really hunker down for summer salads and beautiful summer food! Dieting is so much easier in summer!

Choux · 22/04/2024 23:44

Just ordered 7.5mg from MedExpress. For new customers note that MED20P gets you 20% off. STARTNOW only gets you 15% off.

At £140 including postage it was too good to pass up. I have sent my photo and ID although I don't think they have taken payment yet. They are prob going to ask me about my previous prescriptions from Bolt before accepting my order for 7.5mg.

Hopefully they will dispatch this week. If not I will have to get a 5mg from somewhere and use the 7.5mg later.

Does anyone have a new customer discount code please, I tried DOSE20 but it's only for existing customers. 😞

Try BIRTHDAY-BUNNY, that gave me £30 off when I wasn't already a customer a couple of weeks ago.

There's somewhere in your account where you can send a message about an existing order.

I orderd 5mg from them after moving from Voy and I used the link to send them a photo of my order email from Voy and one of the box label with the prescription data when I ordered before they even asked for it and it then got approved straight away and received next day so you could just send it in now and speed things along.

Choux · 23/04/2024 00:28

Thanks @lurkylurk I have just found the message function and sent them box and previous order photos.

Usernameisnotavailable0 · 23/04/2024 07:36

@Choux I've swapped today too, to Medexpress. Have you sent new body photo too?

April88 · 23/04/2024 07:36

End of week 8 and I’ve lost a 1lb this week, so my total is 21lb.

I’ve got another 5mg pen, then will move up to 7mg as I do feel like it’s effects are wearing off by the end of the week.

Great stuff. About the same as me. I feel so much better and hope you do too 😊

I am also moving up. Just got my order in last night.

Whattodo112222 · 23/04/2024 08:12

Just placed my order for 5mg! Eek

Stickthatupyourdojo · 23/04/2024 08:21

Morning everyone. Injection day 7 for me today and I've officially (just!) lost a stone, woohoo. Was 12.10, took about 9 billion years to lose 10 pounds by myself, started MJ at 12 and this morning am 11 stone (I'm 5 foot 2).

I'm undecided on whether to order another 5mg or move to 7.5mg. 5mg seems to be working great for me but if I use the bonus dose I've still got 2 more injections to go and I know it'll be Sod's Law it'll start wearing off, but equally don't want to rush through titration Confused

BlackFriYay · 23/04/2024 08:25

Day 2 of my first 5mg and I've broken my stall and gone below 12 stone 3. I'm now 12 stone 2. Small victories 😁

TheOverweightFortySomething · 23/04/2024 08:34

I have just had an email from Mayfair Weightloss Clinic informing me that the 7.5mg is available now. Think it’s about £229.

I wondered this too. Do they want a new body photo or the one you sent when you started the prescription with your current provider? I know you have to supply pictures of current dose too.

I couldn't even get past the first page without having to put my start weight in due to the AI, so had to do that. I will have to put a note on it to say i have started treatment. With Asda you could just put your current weight to go up the prescription.

ObsidianTree · 23/04/2024 08:36

Well done for the all the losses today 😊

Morning all

hope everyone is well. I’m not so nauseous today, well not yet!

I watched a tik tok last night of a dietitian who’d lost 40 pounds on MJ & she gave some tips for things she wishes she’d done. One that stood out was to do some strength training, even if it’s just 15 mins at home as it will help with loose skin. I feel like this is great advice. I need to get down to a healthy weight, but I also want to be strong as I’m getting older and I don’t want to be frail, you need muscle for that!

Soukmyfalafel · 23/04/2024 08:51

I went to the gym last night and admit I'm finding weights a struggle still. Might be due to being on low carb though.

Also helps with losing more fat than muscle and with preventing weight regain after!

Well done! I haven set foot in a gym this year! I guess do what you can, something is better than nothing. I’ve done 10 mins of body weight exercise this morning. I’m still recovering from hip issue so I can’t squat or anything g but another week and I do plan to start going to the gym.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/04/2024 09:20

Just had an email from medexpress reminding me to step up to 10mg when I reorder. Advised me to do a consultation today to review progress before my treatment runs out.

I only ordered 7.5mg last night 😄

galaxywipple · 23/04/2024 09:25

Apologies if this has been asked and answered a thousand times but I don't have time to read the full threads now (will do so later!), but how do you get the bonus shot out in week 5?

Losingmymind85 · 23/04/2024 09:27

I have a question about hunger.
I've split my 5mg into 2.5mg doses as felt so so dreadful with the bonus dose (3+).
Normally, 2.5mg is perfect for me. I don't feel hunger at all but it's the day after my dose and my belly is rumbling and I'm already thinking about lunch.
I'm thinking this is maybe a good thing? I can choose how I respond to the hunger signals, which I think is the key for will.power when I come off mounjaro. On the other hand, I think I had a dodgy needle and maybe I didn't get a dose? Ugh.

Either twist the pen really hard and you should be able to get it to click up to 1 again, or extract it with a separate insulin syringe.

I got my partner to twist the pen until it went back to the 1 position. Brute force. Others have extracted using needles.

You can either buy insulin needles and draw out the dose with that.

Or, the hard twist method. Basically twist the pen really hard until it starts turning again. This works for some people and some it doesn't work for. Make sure there isn't a needle on the pen when trying to force twist it.
