Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@ObsidianTree interesting. When I am not logged in I see the 7.5mg pen in the list of options. When I log in (I got my previous pens from Bolt so have an account) it disappears from the list of options!

If I have to order another 5mg I will but I will get it from MedExpress as it's £30 cheaper than Bolt.

R4ch402 · 22/04/2024 10:33

It's allowed me to order 7.5mg from Pharmacy2U, my order is just processing so let's see what they say after the doctor reviews it. I'm not feeling hopeful considering it has disappeared from Bolt.

Choux · 22/04/2024 10:34

Got an email already from Bolt. Not sure what to think as they say they confirmed with Eli Lilly this morning that they will get it this week.

I think I will wait and see for a couple of days.

So if you haven't ordered a 7.5mg pen, it's odd that it isn't showing for you! How weird

So they aren't guaranteed to get it today, it's just sometime this week. So actually could be end of the month like MedExpress and Asda state

I have a feeling we will get them on the 29th. That date has been floating around for a while now.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 22/04/2024 11:03

Thanks @KeepingUndercover, I have updated the form and gone through it carefully so no idea why it won't work.

I have mounjaro in my fridge but too frightened to take it. What a waste of £200

I had mine sat in my fridge for a week before I plucked up the courage. Just do your research, make sure your fridge is full of healthy high protein foods and do it. After I did my first jab I sat thinking was that it, it was painless, Ive had a very side effects and haven't been ill. A lot of people use the nutracheck app to track calories. It very simple to use and has lots of pictures of the food so they are easy to identify.

Doing my best John Inman impression:
I'M FREE!! (That's not showing my age -much!)

Didn't get home 'til late last night, and never sleep well in hospital, so passed out when I got back.

Thanks for the good wishes you lovely lot.

Congrats to all those who've lost (Cant keep up!), and commiserations to those who are stalling.

It's back to injection day for me. 😊

RagzRebooted · 22/04/2024 11:25

Welcome home @MelissaLouRocks

WannabeHealthier · 22/04/2024 12:12

Glad to hear you’re heading home @MelissaLouRocks

@DownWithThisKindOfThing I think it’s a good thing you’re hesitant as shows you’re not taking this lightly. I’m sure you have read all the threads on here plus the official literature/ research, so know what you need to do, if you decide to go ahead.

Is there anything stopping you from proceeding, that we can help provide assurance about based on our personal experience?

When making this kind of decision it’s all about weighing up the risks/cons and benefits for your personal situation. Maybe write these down and sort into categories eg. Health, finances, wellbeing, etc

I did this and I think the biggest risk for me personally is not knowing what happens in the future once you have lost all the weight, because it’s so new for obesity treatment and there is a lack of evidence. But it’s been used longer for diabetes, so we know it’s as safe as medications can be, if used appropriately. But then I thought about the risks of remaining obese- putting on even more weight, cancer risk… and on balance taking it is the right decision for me.

Just don’t put yourself under pressure to take it if you don’t want to. Forget the money spent and do what feels right for you.

FlappyFish · 22/04/2024 12:38

@MelissaLouRocks enjoy your rest! So happy you’re home.

@DownWithThisKindOfThing do chat to us on the hesitation. I’m quite far on with this, I’ve done 10 injections. I was so reticent. I’ve been scared to lose weight and self-sabotage too. I have not been in a healthy BMI for two decades. I didn’t want to have to buy clothes.

I was obese at 31.4 on BMI. Then my Dad had a heart attack three weeks after retiring from a life time of physical work. It terrified me. I have never been focussed on health before. It was always “I want to be thin. It will cure everything!”

Ha. As if.

I started on MJ two weeks after he came out of hospital. My BMI is 26.2 and I have lost two stone.

The side effects for me have been constipation and feeling cold. That’s it.

This is the most wonderful group and we have all grown together. There is also another thread for those just starting.

This is changing my life. I am pursuing health not thinness. And that is mind blowing to me after a life time of treating food as both my nemesis and best friend.

Rainbowl · 22/04/2024 12:52

I’m so sorry for your loss @FlappyFish I didn’t realise that was reason for starting 💐

My lovely FIL has days, if not hours, to live and it has also made me reevaluate my reasons for doing this.

Pops1985 · 22/04/2024 13:18

Can I ask what the expiry dates are on the latest 5mg pens being received? I have seen the updated expiry dates on the 2.5mg pens but wondering if that has been matched with the 5mg pens. Trying to stretch out doses a bit but have ordered a 5mg pen and want to make sure I use it before it expires. Thanks

Investinmyself · 22/04/2024 13:18

@DownWithThisKindOfThing I’d take it when you have a quieter few days. If it makes you feel more comfortable tell someone in real life. It’s a pen not like an injection, thigh seems to carry less symptoms anecdotally.
Plan your food. Bland, not greasy helps.
So a protein shake or yoghurt for breakfast. Eggs or homemade soup lunch. Chicken & veg at night for a few days. Lots of water.
Good luck.

FlappyFish · 22/04/2024 13:24

@Rainbowl oh gosh, I just re-read it and didn’t realise it looked like Dad passed. He didn’t, he had a week in hospital and two stents and he is well and happy. But yes, that’s what promoted me to go I have to change and do this for health or I will be like that a lot sooner.

Noooo it’s me - you said “after he came out of hospital” and I didn’t read it properly! Too distracted by baby DD.

I’m glad your Dad is ok 🙂

I pre-ordered from Bolt the 7.5 and it's showing as 'delayed' so not sure when it will be released. I think all the pharmacies will receive it at the same time

FlappyFish · 22/04/2024 13:34

Prompted. Honestly, I need to spell check. I am used to work email correctly all my daft mid-types. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Femeia · 22/04/2024 13:48

I just checked my Bolt account and the 7.5mg is still showing as delayed. They've not emailed me since Wednesday with an update.
Glad I bit the bullet and went for another 5mg pen, even though that is annoying

I think you are right and it will be sent to all of them at the same time. And I think some pharmacies are being slightly disingenuous by letting people pre-order when they had no guarantee it would actually come into stock this week.

Bolt told me this morning it would arrive with them 'this week' so in theory that means they might not get it till Friday and not be sending it to anyone till next week. Yet several companies are happy to lock you into an order with them when you then might not be able to afford a second order elsewhere and will then say 'ok we'll send you a 5 instead' if you really need it as your pen has run out.
