Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Well done @Femeia ☺️ how much did you lose?

4.6lbs overnight! And a sneaky weigh just now after another wee and it was 5lbs! Phew - thought I was defying the laws of nature for a bit there Grin

Femeia · 21/04/2024 09:21

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 21/04/2024 08:55

Yay @Femeia ! I've had to pee a lot more the past couple of days too after a couple of weeks of not a lot of weight lost. This morning on the scale it actually said my body water increased, and my muscle mass increased, but my fat decreased and my overall weight decreased too!

Excellent news! I have to say, a lot of the time this weight loss stuff is very illogical

LaurieFairyCake · 21/04/2024 09:35

Does anyone have a link (YouTube?)for how to inject this - I have it in my fridge and have been too nervous to do it

There were no instructions with it

LaurieFairyCake · 21/04/2024 09:36

Also my bmi was not above 30 for prescribing (pre diabetic) so only 28

Really that’s odd, where did you get it?

I think this should help, it’s really easy. I did it myself and my husband is a nurse and was happy to do but it was simple!

Where did you get it from? The instructions should be in the box with the pen, two sets. All sealed up so not like it's something the seller can forget to put in.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/04/2024 09:46

I got it from boots

What's worried me is reading the top of the thread about twisting the pen, using it more than once

Basically I just don't understand

So basically, you twist it until it shows 1 in the window. Which can take a while! When you inject you push the button down and the pen winds back down to 0. This will administer 1 dose (1/5 of the liquid). So you turn the pen to 1 each week.

The patient leaflet and user manual are here: https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/usermanual#about-medicine

Honestly though I'd probably contact Boots and see if they'll send you a new pen. Not having the leaflets in the box is weird.

That's brilliant Femeia I'm so pleased for you 🙂

That's actually given me a bit of hope today as I haven't lost anything 8-9 days and when I weighed on Friday I'd actually put on 0.6kg 🙄

It doesn't make sense for it to be food gain as I haven't eaten excessively at all. Fingers crossed for a "whoosh" of my own!

Hope you're getting on OK @MelissaLouRocks and can get home today.

Spanielears · 21/04/2024 10:09

Hi all, I hope all is well with everyone.

I injected my second dose yesterday, and I’m feeling great! In my first week I managed to lose 8lb, which I am over the moon at. I really can’t believe it, I know that this is prob water from week 1 but I feel so much better in myself and in general.

SW 14 st 5lbs
CW 13st 13lbs

Just want to say thank you to everyone again, it’s like I’ve got loads of friends here, supporting me.

it made me think about those on the other thread, calling the weight loss meds sinister. Would be interesting to know how many of them are peri or menopausal. Not many, I would guess. Let’s ignore their negativity, we can do this together.

One of my top tips for food is put about 3 chicken wings in bbq sauce in the air fryer for 20 mins, and eat with a mixed salad, cherry tomatoes and cucumber. Add some feta cheese in in you like. The chicken tastes exactly like Pizza Hut chicken wings !

Also I saw Mama Mia on Thursday with my friend for her birthday. I love ABBA, and it’s made me feel like dancing along to the songs while doing the housework / not at work! If anyone else likes the music / show, there’s a really good YouTube video with dance moves to the songs. My DH is wondering what’s happened I think, he doesn’t know about the Mounjaro. So let’s dance and enjoy ourselves !

Well done everyone, and thank you for the thread and support xxx

Wonkypictureframe · 21/04/2024 10:12

Well done on all these brilliant losses! And @MelissaLouRocks I hope you can break out today.

It’s so true that even in the ‘everyone was so thin’ days, people talked about middle-aged spread, and the typical post-menopausal figure was very much Ena Sharples rather than Joan Collins!

Spanielears · 21/04/2024 10:20

Wonkypictureframe, I’ve just googled Ena Sharples! 😂

ObsidianTree · 21/04/2024 10:22

Well done @Spanielears. Such a great first day loss 😊

That's sad @MelissaLouRocks 😞 hope they release you soon.

ObsidianTree · 21/04/2024 10:24

I got my period today. 2 days early again. Since starting I am now 1 week ahead for my period! Definitely the worst side effect of Mounjaro for me! Hate my totm!

The good thing about it, is if I get my totm early next month too, I should be finished just as I go on holiday! So went from it due mid hol, to now hopefully not due on at all!

3rd dose due later of 2.5mg not lost anything this week and have been alternating starving or acid indigestion. Appetite suppression lasted nearly all week on dose 1 but only lasted 2.5 days on dose 2.

Using all the will power I have to get me to the end of 4 weeks when I can move up to 5mg and praying it works 🙏

I'm the same. Appetite suppression decreased a lot after my second dose. I took my third on Friday and feel slightly less hungry. I'm holding on until the 5mg as well. I did lose another lb on the second week, so I must be eating less than I was generally.

FlappyFish · 21/04/2024 10:41

Great result, Femeia and I think there’s a few of us stalling/plateauing. Whatever we call it. My weight is going all over the place now. I will get to my lowest, then gain 3lb overnight. Work back down. Drop again. Shoot up. It’s bizarre. I’m trying not to let it get to me.

It’s not a TOTM thing at this point. It’s like my body doesn’t know what it wants to do or is confused. I’m not going over 1,200 a day (and sometimes I am well under, I’m not hiding that).

BUT weight isn’t everything. This is the biggest change I am having head wise. A small gain doesn’t ruin my day and make me reach for bingeable food. I shrug. Drink some water. Move on.

(above opinion subject to change!😂)

imnottoofussed · 21/04/2024 11:01

Only me can go for a number 2 and gain nearly a pound 😂

Honestly my calorie intake for the week should have me losing weight even without taking mj but it's not happening.

I will persevere however as im determined this will work

susiedaisy1912 · 21/04/2024 11:05

Just done my 4th jab at the 2.5mg dose and weighed, total weight loss so far is 11 pounds so very happy with that. Can definitely feel it wearing off the day before my jab as I'm really hungry. I'm using nutracheck and tracking protein. Drinking loads and having an electrolyte tablet once a day. I'm having most of the usual side effects but they are manageable at the moment. Going to do a second month on the 2.5mg as it's working for me at the moment. Side note, when are we going to be getting a topic section just for MJ ?

Spanielears · 21/04/2024 11:17

I forgot to add in my previous post, I’m getting Mounjaro from Boots at the moment, but switching to Medexpress for my next pen. But it might be worth buying a pen from Boots , because you get a link for weight watchers for a discounted £7 a month on their special GLP-1 plan. I’m not a great fan of WW in general but I’ve joined because it’s really useful for tracking water , protein and fruit / veg servings.

I must admit, I've read the evil thread and taken it as entertainment as to how stupid / prejudiced / arrogant some people can be. Didn't bother replying as you can't argue with stupid can you so let them be.

As for me, I've caved in and bought collagen powder. Omg it is rank 🤢

Please tell me how you take this shit supplement before I bin 50 quid worth of stuff!
