To worry my wedding will be cancelled (Queen's health)

I have just seen the upsetting news about the Queen under medical supervision and as the family are travelling to be with her it looks like it could be bad news.

I have a small registry office wedding ceremony booked on Wednesday 21st September, just wondering in case anything happens, does anyone know if registry office services would be cancelled to accommodate the funeral or the mourning period?

None of us can possibly answer this at this moment.

Best of luck with your wedding.

CinderellaFant · 08/09/2022 15:48

I think it will be fine- my wedding (in a town hall) was on the day of Prince Phillips funeral and went ahead.

BlueKaftan · 08/09/2022 15:48

How distasteful. Can the flipping registry office.

tigerbear · 08/09/2022 15:48

I don’t understand, why would your registry office cancel because of the Queen’s death? That makes no sense…

NewIdeasToday · 08/09/2022 15:48

No one can possibly know.

And she’s not dead yet so this is a really self centred question to ask.

Anothernamechangeplease · 08/09/2022 15:49

Hard to say, OP. I think there is supposed to be a day of national mourning or something, so I guess there is a chance that it could coincide. I hope that it can go ahead for you as planned.

Because its an official building. Which historically would close during periods of national mourning.

What's with the arsey comments?!

I think it's fair enough for the OP to be concerned. It's her wedding, not just a kids' birthday party or something. In her life, it's presumably quite important to her!

Skiphopbump · 08/09/2022 15:51

Do weddings at a registry office on a bank holiday? I imagine that will give you some indication.

Agree!

FourChimneys · 08/09/2022 15:52

I would hope that as and when the queen dies normal life can carry on. People can watch it on their phones nowadays if they wish, no need to shut the country down.

I hope you have a lovely wedding OP.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/09/2022 15:52

I think it's fair enough for the OP to be wondering this. I bet the people chastising her don't have similar events planned.

BlueKaftan · 08/09/2022 15:55

Really MissHavisham? People who find the question distasteful obviously don’t have “similar events planned” Bwahahaha Burn!!

ElvisLeftTheBuilding · 08/09/2022 15:58

No need for arsey comments people, the poster is worried about her wedding! Be kind.

@theexceliconisgreen If the queen passes today as I strongly suspect we are about to hear in the next hour or so, there will be a 10-day period of national mourning so your wedding will fall after that. If the death occurs a few days later, I think it's likely you will still be fine but call them next week to check.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/09/2022 15:59

I think the OP is getting a hard time here!

I suspect that a national.day of mourning would be a Friday, but until the funeral arrangements are announced we won't know. However, her death hasn't been confirmed yet so it's all just speculation at this point

TenoringBehind · 08/09/2022 16:00

the official mourning period is 10 days, with day 1 being the day after the death. 21st may well be after that.

it perfectly natural to be considering the implications of what may be about to unfold.

MNCar · 08/09/2022 16:01

When the Queen dies the funeral is said to take place 10 days later. So really depends when that announcement comes. The funeral day will be a day of national mourning and yes registry offices will be closed

Telling the OP she's being distasteful because she's wondering if a major national event might mean her wedding is postponed is such a prissy way to act.

theexceliconisgreen · 08/09/2022 16:25

Thanks everyone for your responses so far and for mostly being kind 😊 I understand everyone regards the Queen differently so some may have been upset with my post.

The wedding has been arranged for a while and my sister who lives in New Zealand has flown in just for this event for the next few weeks so initial worries if it's cancelled she will miss it etc

Registry offices are closed on bank holidays here (we're in Scotland) so was just wondering if anyone had any particular knowledge of whether an event like this would force registry offices to close.

@NewIdeasToday how is it self centred? So many have had weddings cancelled over the past two years so it would be upsetting to have to cancel for the death of a 96 year old woman that I doubt the OP has ever met? Sad as it is that she might die soon, it would be upsetting to have to cancel her wedding.

Prissy? There you go judging my opinion which is completely valid. Give up Missy you won’t win calling me names.

arthurfowlermood · 08/09/2022 16:44

OP, don't mind the gimpy comments. Some people are never happy unless they are cutting the legs off someone else for asking a perfectly valid question.

I hope your wedding goes ahead.
You have every right to ask.
Hope you have a great day.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 08/09/2022 16:46

Win what?

ginnybag · 08/09/2022 16:46

They will close for the day of the funeral, yes.

However, the 21st id likely to be after that, as things currently stand.
