To worry my wedding will be cancelled (Queen's health)

theexceliconisgreen · 08/09/2022 15:14

I have just seen the upsetting news about the Queen under medical supervision and as the family are travelling to be with her it looks like it could be bad news.

I have a small registry office wedding ceremony booked on Wednesday 21st September, just wondering in case anything happens, does anyone know if registry office services would be cancelled to accommodate the funeral or the mourning period?

And she’s not dead yet so this is a really self centred question to ask.

I agree!

I can’t believe someone has actually heard news about someone being ill and their first thought is about themselves.

Some people are such attention seekers!

She’s not dead yet.
When she does die then you can see what impact it has on your life.

I think you’re forgetting that the people around probably aren’t as fussed about your wedding as you are.

FFS.
I bet the people around the op are a lot more fussed about whether the wedding goes ahead than whether the queen has died.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 08/09/2022 17:27

I think if you are that concerned, then you call the place you are getting married and ask them. It isn’t difficult.

I realise that this is predominantly an anti- royal site, but there are millions and millions of people ( me included ) who are very sad about the news that HM the Queen is unwell and are very concerned about her welfare.

Regarding the Ops post, just found it to be a rather selfish comment and I expressed that opinion.

I don’t need biscuits or told what I should or shouldn’t be expressing. End of

In the nicest possible way… please don’t be so selfish and self absorbed.

Yeah because you would be totally unconcerned if it were your own wedding possibly affected and you had family flying thousands of miles to be there 🙄Have some compassion fgs

That old MN reliable.

You can be sad and take a small moment to think about what other people have going on in their lives. Can you genuinely say with a straight face that if you were getting married in the next few days, the thought about whether it might be cancelled wouldn’t cross your mind at all? The op has done nothing wrong by asking. You are way out of order to call her selfish.

SunnyD44 · 08/09/2022 17:34

@2022newnamenewme But she’s not dead?

She could die today, tomorrow or in months or years to come.

Even if she did die it may in no way affect OP and her wedding.

So why try and make it all about yourself when nothing has happened and no one can guess what will happen.

It’s like saying what if we have a war, go on lockdown, have a tsunami, airport strikes etc - anything can happen.

There’s no point stressing about something that hasn’t even happened and you can’t plan for if it did anyway.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 08/09/2022 17:36

Of course I would be concerned, but in such a time of anxiety for millions of people, reading a thread like this made my eyes roll. Sorry but it did - I find the timing of it quite insensitive and personally, I would be calling the place I would be getting married at and not posting on a public forum. They are the people who would be able to answer anyway.

Get over yourself. Other people's lifes don't and shouldn't come to a standstill because of the Queen dying.

PurpleDaisies · 08/09/2022 17:36

Because the wedding is all about the op and her guests and her family.

This thread is clearly distressing you. Why don’t you hide it instead of attacking the op for asking a valid question?

Echobelly · 08/09/2022 17:38

It's totally fine for anyone to care more about their personal circumstances than the Queen's death tbh.

Vallmo47 · 08/09/2022 17:39

I must admit OP that the same thought occurred to me (register wedding in October). If it does have a knock on effect, I can’t prevent that, but if I lose all of my money spent on venue for the evening I cannot afford to do it again and that’s the simple truth.

Don't be so bloody stupid. You don't have to play 'What If?' in these particular circumstances - every time you refresh Yahoo! a different royal has touched down in Scotland. It's happening, very soon, and the OP has a legitimate reason to be concerned (although I suspect it'll be fine).

There's 100s of "what if" threads about war, strikes and lockdowns on here. Do you make arsey comments on them all?

2022newnamenewme · 08/09/2022 17:43

@SunnyD44 ‘years to come’….

I think you’re pretty naive.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 08/09/2022 17:44

My DS has his 11+ a week on Monday. I'll not be happy if that's disrupted after all that work!!

@LetHimHaveIt

So when exactly is the Queen dying and how exactly will OPs wedding be affected???

You don’t know the answer to either of these questions but yourself and PPs are just trying to add to the hysteria, like we always have on here.

Chances are OPs wedding will not be affected.
Trying to say otherwise (especially when her wedding is 2 weeks away yet) is just ridiculous.

@PurpleDaisies I appreciate your concern but I promise this thread isn’t distressing me.

I don’t particularly like bridezillas which OP may be but they wouldn’t distress me.
Thanks though.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 08/09/2022 17:51

I understand that there is a protocol in place whereby the day after the announcement of the Queen's death is made counts as D-Day +1, with a strict schedule of events on the following days up until the State Funeral, which I think is likely to be a Bank Holiday (I imagine public buildings such as registry offices and schools will be closed), and counts as D-Day +10. So by my calculations, your wedding will go ahead, @theexceliconisgreen, unless D-Day is Monday 12th September.
I'd have the same worries at the moment if I were in your shoes. I hope it all goes well for you.

What a load of crock! It's not selfish nor self centred to wonder if the biggest day of your life is going to be able to go ahead because of the death of someone you don't know and have never met (and I say this as a big supporter of the Queen and Royal Family!)

Good luck for your wedding Op. Hope it all goes ahead smoothly!

strathanna · 08/09/2022 17:08

I work in a local authority in Scotland and we're not expecting to close anything apart from the day of the funeral. Each one will be slightly different, but unless you're unlucky and it's the day of the funeral itself, you should be fine. As with the person above, I suspect it's imminent, so your wedding should be totally fine.

@theexceliconisgreen As you mentioned it’s a registry office in Scotland, OP, I think this is probably the most important comment in the thread, as far as being able to answer your question. I hope you see it, and it doesn’t get lost in the 100 comments arguing with each other. Really lovely of you to try to help the OP, @strathanna

Hahaha Jesus Christ.

It’s her WEDDING.

Toastandjam16 · 08/09/2022 18:12

I get it OP. I have a family funeral taking place the same week, and it will be upsetting to think it might be disrupted or might end up clashing with state funeral arrangements. No one's fault if so but it's also ok to hope it doesn't come to that.

Calmdown14 · 08/09/2022 18:12

The state funeral will be 10 days after her death unless it's a Sunday.
If it falls on that day then there is a possibility as it likely to be a national Day of mourning.
For the rest of the mourning period I think you'd be fine

Ki44 · 08/09/2022 18:15

NewIdeasToday · 08/09/2022 15:48

No one can possibly know.

And she’s not dead yet so this is a really self centred question to ask.

No it's not. Don't be so bloody precious!

She doesn't know the Queen. It's not a family member. The OP is asking if the Queen dies will there be a widespread period of mourning that will be akin to everything shutting down like a bank holiday.

Hardly the worst question. She's getting married. That's a big deal to her!!

Yes the Queen passing away will be upsetting to many, but that doesn't mean people can't be worried, concerned and preoccupied by their own huge life events.

Get a grip.

2022newnamenewme · 08/09/2022 18:30

@SunnyD44 how is getting married in a registry office and hoping your sister can attend at all bridezilla?!

You do know, between now and the end of day so many people you’ve never met will die - young and old. Do you care about any of them?
