First dance songs

Bride to be here!

I'm curious to know, what was everyone's first dance song? Or what will be your first dance song?

Ours is going to be to "Tell me that you love me" by James smith. We're also going to do a private last dance to "This years love" by David grey.

Honourable mentions go to the other songs that we decided we have to dance to on our big day:

I worked at a wedding venue for a while and you heard the same 'current' songs as the first dance 95% of the time, and it got pretty dull and repetitive. This was a good few years ago but back then they were:

How Long Will I Love You - Ellie Goulding
Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran
All Of Me - John Legand
A Thousand Years - Christina Perri

One couple had Still The One - Shania Twain, all the staff loved it as it was such a lovely change of pace from the above, but most wedding guests are far less judgemental as they won't be at 6 weddings a week for months on end! It did mean for my wedding I went classic rather than modern and we choose Kiss From A Rose - Seal. I do love Taylor Swift, and perhaps would have wanted Lover if it had been released in time for my wedding.

We had this year’s love as our first dance - we are big David Gray fans and the song means a lot to us even if it’s meaning isn’t that appropriate (I interpret the words differently anyway!). Later in the evening my niece sang ‘have yourself a merry little Christmas’ (Christmas wedding) - she didn’t want the pressure of doing ‘the first dance’.

Your list has a lot of slow first dance type songs on it - I’d have a think about when you’re going to play them and how you’re going to space them out otherwise you end up with a full dance floor suddenly emptying because you’ve put a slow one on.

The one - kodaline might be biased but it's the most beautiful song, if I had my time again I'd have it for my wedding!

Our daughter had the song from the lion king …can you feel the love tonight . We all stood around the dance floor waving our arms and singing along. It was fabulous 🥰.

We had Love You Like I Used To by Russell Dickerson. My husband chose it because it remind him of the first big trip we went on together. A lot of those songs sound more like background music in the day to filling the dance floor at night but you know the people who will be there better than I do.

We're having Betty Davies Eyes just beauts we both love singing it really . Not very romantic I know but might get a few dance classes just to spice it up .

We had 'you do something to me' by Paul Wellar for our first dance

Then danced to Eva Cassidy's version of 'Time After Time'. This was very emotional. It's very hard for me to listen to still now, 4 years later as my dad was suffering from terminal cancer at our wedding and he passed 4 months later 💙

I Love You Always Forever by Donna Lewis.

We were in a restaurant on holiday last summer discussing first dance songs and the live band played it. Decision made on the spot.

(I love an 80s / 90s ballad and there'll be lots more in the playlist).

Thinking Out Loud was released a few weeks before we got married so we had that along with millions of other couples that year no doubt!!

We had ‘Only Love’ Ben Howard while they did the registers, I much preferred that.

I also love that Kodaline one @mollymcguire but not as much as High Hopes which was out when I met DH x
