I'm curious to know, what was everyone's first dance song? Or what will be your first dance song?

Ours is going to be to "Tell me that you love me" by James smith. We're also going to do a private last dance to "This years love" by David grey.

You Never Can Tell by Chuck Berry. Didn’t want a slow dance and we quickly got other people to join in.

I was pissed off with the crappy Dj (who came with the hotel wedding package) when he played Amazed by Lonestar instead of Sugar by Maroon 5 as our second song. We had to grin and bare it slow dancing to a crap song that I hate.

Later on he played countless ABBA songs and Grease mixes which my parents friends all thought were great and I had to get my bridesmaids to keep making modern music requests.

Make sure you get a band/DJ that’ll play what you want and not the music he/they like.

We had You're my best friend- Queen.

Something different and seemed to fit perfectly for DH and I.

My ex and I had Let's Get Married by The Proclaimers - it went down well.

I love you, always forever by Donna Lewis.

We had Over and Over Again- Nathan Sykes

Our first dance in a few months will be to Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet. We've given it a lot of thought (especially during the extra two years we've waited due to Covid) as the lyrics technically are about breaking up. But it is without a doubt 'our' song and has been for years. We love it so much, and some of it is relevant to us - he even asked me to be his girlfriend 13 years ago with a text along the lines of 'You and me babe, how about it? which is one of the lyrics. We have worried that it will seem an odd choice, but to be honest I actually think most people don't know or listen to the lyrics anyway, and will just enjoy it being something different (we're at the age where all our friends are getting married so all going to lots of weddings and seeing lots of first dances).

Also on our shortlist were Stand By Me, the Luckiest and Songbird. We're going to try to incorporate those songs into the evening at some other point.

We had Baby I’m Yours - it’s an Arctic Monkeys cover of an old song from the 60s by Barbara Lewis. Lovely lovely words but sung with Alex Turner’s inimitable twang. Our actual ‘song’ is Something Changed by Pulp but for some reason it felt too intimate to dance to in front of people, and I don’t think they’d have got the sentiment - it’s very much just for us, that one.

We're having Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. It's the song that I managed to get my very shy DP to sing in the car early in our relationship, so it’s special to us

We didn't have a song as such that was 'our song' so we had Ho Hey by the Lumineers. When it speeds up towards the end we waved everyone on to the dancefloor and it was brilliant.

We have a list that needs shortcutting down to 1. DP like Groovy kinda love by Phil Collins (I secretly love that he's actually chosen one and it's a lovey song)
