Wedding Dress Help

Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping you lovely people can give me some help.
I was wondering if there was a place near liverpool where you can Hire a Wedding dress?
Recently, we found out my 53 year old beautiful mum has an aggressive form of cancer and she has been given 3-6 months to live. She is rapidly getting sicker and is currently a day patient in Marie Curie for pain management. However, my wonderful boyfriend of 10 years has asked me to marry him so my mum can be there and see me in a wonderful dress and enjoy time with the whole family. We are hoping this gives her that extra bit of will power to keep fighting!! :)

So obviously weddings can cost a fortune but I dont have "fortune" money. Both me and the other work full time but we have nursery fees to pay a house, car and bills. We are also helping to pay for my mums cannibis oil (trying anything) and that is a fortune too. We need to do this as cheap as possible but for everything still needs to be beautiful (hope that makes sense). We gave our notice last week and have planned our wedding day for 20th October 2017.

I didnt realise how expensive wedding dresses are, I tried on an "off the peg dress" in the sale and it was £600, well i nearly popped right out the dress in sheer horror! LOL! I have searched for wedding dress hires but I cant find anywhere. I literally can afford a dress around £200, maybe a little more.

Your advice is needed desperately guys. Thanks in advance xxx

Honestly ordering Chinese wedding dresses is such a huge risk. So ask yourself if you can afford to lose that £120?

The beads will basically be glued on for that price.

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/08/2017 09:09

Oxfam and some other charities sell donated wedding dresses online.

Honestly, asos...

Search on EBay for auction items only when searching for your wedding dress, and then you'll be more likely to be looking at second hand dresses and new ones that businesses are selling for a good price.

You can get a really good bargain, and if the dress needs dry cleaning, the total cost is often still quite reasonable.

Definitely tour all of the charity shops you can get do, and ask if they have any wedding dresses and if you can see them. At this time of year, they often have them out and on mannequins too, but often don't have room to put all of them on the shop floor. You can pick up a fantastic bargain.

Most wedding dresses are worn for the equivalent of an average working day in terms of hours, so I don't really consider them second hand if that makes sense. Again, you can always get it dry cleaned too.

Best wishes for your search, for your wedding and family.

Wed2b is brilliant if you can get to one of their stores. You can tell them your limit to spend. The staff when I went were fantastic.

DuchessofManchester · 12/08/2017 09:18

Have you tried the wedding dress outlet? There's a store in Liverpool.

MeganLowena · 12/08/2017 09:18

I bought a bridesmaid dress from China when I got married and it was so dreadful we couldn't use it - it was a totally different colour and there was a dodgy seam running right down the front. Yours might be ok but I'm not sure I'd risk it.

SmileInAWhile · 12/08/2017 09:20

Forgot to add, my wedding was brought forward due to bastarding cancer, so everything was a rush. People were so helpful and understanding. I hope that you manage to have a wonderful day.

Bridal shops sometimes sell off old sample dresses really cheap, they will have been tried on but never worn properly. They can be as cheap as £50 instead of £500

My daughter got a wedding dress from China, it took about 3mths to arrive and needed lots of sprucing from my very experiences seamstress aunt .. so no don't do it!

Beautiful wedding photos by the way everyone 👍🏻

theclockticksslowly · 12/08/2017 10:01

I second (or third) Monsoon. Some gorgeous dresses - I also got my Monsoon dress off EBay for about £40 and it was still brand new with tags.

I wouldn't recommend going the China route. I know it has worked for some but I tried it and the dress that arrived was nothing like the photo! Hence the monsoon eBay one!

Wed2be sell cheap but nice wedding dresses. Sorry about your Mum.

I don't know where exactly you are but the dress is £50 you could offer a bit less and then it would just be petrol costs?

Nomdutilisateur · 12/08/2017 10:13

This one is beautiful!

I would be very careful of getting a dress from China. There are a lot of horror stories out there. Ghost do some gorgeous white dresses. My friend wore one for her wedding.

GreenTulips · 12/08/2017 10:25

I don't think they would arrive in time either

CountryMouseCityMouse · 12/08/2017 10:30

Firstly congratulations OP! And very sorry to hear about your mum I can't imagine planning a wedding while going through what you are dealing with. I'm sure others will agree that if we can be of any help in searching for other bits for you, do say. I know how time consuming it can be trying to compile lists of venues, florists, bands etc or trying to find specific things you've decided you want like table numbers (etsy hunting can end up taking days as I found when I was looking for heart shape wooden table numbers specifically!)

I don't think you should take the risk with the dress from China, I've seen them go so badly wrong! I wish I could help & offer you my dress but it's being used to make a christening gown for our baby. I had a quick look on eBay and found something similar-ish to what you like from the Chinese shop. It's Ronald Joyce which is the same brand my dress was-the brand of dresses are quite heavily beaded on the whole and lovely quality. I'd be cautious about buying a brand you don't know on eBay as some dresses can look very different. If you find a recent style dress from a wedding designer like the one I've sent the link for, you could try them on in a wedding shop before you order them second hand on eBay if the seller lives far away from you.

The dress you wore to the races is beautiful on you but it sounds like you really want something special that you've not worn before for your big day which is more than understandable.

GemmaB78 · 12/08/2017 11:58

Yes you can send PM. Check your inbox!

We have a bridal charity shop where I live. People donate their dresses and the shop sells on and donates the proceeds. Do you have anything like that where you are?

eurochick · 12/08/2017 13:15

Coast dresses would be within your budget www.coast-stores.com/c/maxi-dresses
