winds of 80mph are predicted to hit parts of Ireland and the UK over Friday and Saturday. I’m north wales and we’re looking at winds of around 72mph on Saturday according to the met office. Lots of local events have been cancelled. Anyone else potentially affected by the storm?

I have never driven in 70mph winds but I’m guessing it’s very much not advisable?

Thank you @BlackeyedSusan. I never even thought about the possibility of having to evacuate! I can put anything higher up as we're in a ground floor flat.

Good idea, thanks @VegTrug.

Hello OYBBK, hope you caught some auroras this year.
The red alerts we've had in the past in Scotland have always been warranted.
Don't travel. Don't go outside. Trying to stand up in 90mph gusts and avoid flying debris is difficult, to say the least. Don't go out and look at your roof until the wind has dropped.

MyMagicStars · 06/12/2024 23:09

We’re meant to be going into London tomorrow- we’re staying with friends near Ely and taking the train. I think we’ll be okay, but I’m a little nervous!

Temporaryanonymity · 06/12/2024 23:11

I am in the red zone, in Swansea. There’s a tree down around the corner and it’s not even peak wind yet.

You can take your photos out the bottom cupboard and put them up high etc. anything sentimental or important. You could take stuff out of bottom kitchen cupboard and put on counter maybe.

Good luck.

It's just starting to pick up again in Dublin after a lull. I'm charging up spare power banks and the dog has been out for his final wee of the evening. I'm hoping it won't be too bad for us as we are sheltered on three sides and only open due West.

poppym12 · 06/12/2024 23:42

Thank you @BlackeyedSusan - you can tell I've never experienced this before!

Frozensnowflake · 06/12/2024 23:49

Very windy now in north east wales. Hope all in the red areas are ok

Been texting ds- his flight tried and got diverted from cork to Dublin earlier. They wanted to try to go back to cork but it was decided to run back empty. Flights are going to be carnage for the next few days, everything is going to be in the wrong place!

I'm near llanelli and the same here. There's a tree down blocking the road already.

A representative for the train services said they'd do their best to keep the lines open. So it's anybody's guess what will be running this weekend

Easier to think from inland than in the eye of the storm on the coast.

We're near Conwy. Poor Anglesey and the Peninsula are going to cop it. Imagine if we didn't have Ireland to the west the storms would be worse.

Taking one for the team we are

Taking one for the team we are

As always

, eerily calm here Conwy area. Guess we'll be hit later.

lostinwales · 07/12/2024 00:18

Starting to get proper gusty here on the West Wales coast. Fingers crossed all the roof tiles stay on and I just get a lovely night of listening to the wind from my cozy bed. Good luck everyone, may we have running water (from taps, only appropriate running water!) and electricity all weekend.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 07/12/2024 00:23

Heading to bed now and it's still very wild.

Hope it won't be too bad for ye tomorrow. Take care!

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 00:25

I'm away now. Keep safe all.

InflagranteDelicto · 07/12/2024 00:32

Hope all of you in Wales / Ireland / everywhere on the coast have a safe night. Ds has landed and dd1 is home from work so I can go to bed and stop worrying.

Jabtastic · 07/12/2024 00:33

Still dead calm here it's completely bizarre. Goodnight all and stay safe!

NoWordForFluffy · 07/12/2024 00:37

AInightingale · 06/12/2024 22:12

I wonder how many inflatable Santas will fly away tonight. There's about five in gardens in my street.

We wondered this. There's an inflatable grinch on our estate, which is apparently massive. Looking forward to that appearing elsewhere this weekend!

It's picking up a fair bit on the NW coast now. Still coming from the south for now, it goes round to the west, then north west at about 4am. So it's blowing straight at our bedroom right now, which is joyous. We're in the amber zone here.

LesLavandes · 07/12/2024 00:41

I'm in south east by beach and I'm not liking what I'm hearing. In the past 4 years I have had 3 windows which have exploded

BeastAngelMadwoman · 07/12/2024 01:02

I'm Llŷn Peninsula and just been out to put my neighbour's bins in the alleyway as I noticed she's not home (and if they went flying it could well be my car they hit). It's windy but not unusually so for here yet (very coastal so used to very high winds). The worst is definitely to come I think. I'm struggling to sleep

LesLavandes · 07/12/2024 01:05

I can't sleep either

Christmassprinkles123 · 07/12/2024 01:05

What's the diff between storm and hurricane as the wind speed would fit at lease a cat1 hurricane

Jabtastic · 07/12/2024 01:06

This storm is truly bizarre. It was flat calm, not a breath of wind until 01:00 then the wind came out of nowhere and hit our house like a train. It is really, really odd. We get a lot of storms here but the stop start nature of it is the bizarre thing. Winds are to peak in the next hour or two.
