winds of 80mph are predicted to hit parts of Ireland and the UK over Friday and Saturday. I’m north wales and we’re looking at winds of around 72mph on Saturday according to the met office. Lots of local events have been cancelled. Anyone else potentially affected by the storm?

I have never driven in 70mph winds but I’m guessing it’s very much not advisable?

so much of my town is flooded in north east wales- am feeling so sorry for the residents who are battling the flood water. Most of the town also has no power- we’re lucky to still have ours. I think it’s because our house has its power lines underground. The rains let off now although the wind is still howling. I took the dog out for a brief 10 min walk to find the path out of my estate had turned into a river and the road it leads to was totally flooded so we came back home. Dog was disappointed, she was still fully expecting an hours walk complete with chasing a ball.

We didn't have any damage but the house around the corner is being renovated and the builders had put up solid plywood hoarding all along the front boundary which blew down and took the front wall and gateposts with it.

It was incredibly loud last night so I was slightly worried about the roof tiles.

I’m just south east of Leeds, which is only a couple of miles as the crow flies.

we are an end terraced house and currently very exposed to the winds battering the house. It’s so loud and a little scary

It doesn’t seem to have calmed down at all here! No damage that I’ve seen just yet, but lots of trees down.

DP has left for work, but hoping he’ll just town around and come home!

Sadik · 07/12/2024 16:16

It feels worse not better here now I reckon. Someone said the roof has come off Fishguard leisure centre too :(

Sadik · 07/12/2024 16:18

Lots of trees down across the main road, going to be a while before things get moving again

BoudiccasBangles · 07/12/2024 16:23

River still rising. The sky is a very strange purple red colour and the wind is getting up again.

Rowgtfc72 · 07/12/2024 16:26

East coast. Relentless rain and wind getting up.
I foresee a night downstairs on the sofa where it's quieter.

AHFBridport · 07/12/2024 16:34

DH is securing the bins for a third time. They keep getting away!

VegTrug · 07/12/2024 16:40

The strong winds have just hit North Yorkshire the past few mins 🌬️

Same here in Harrogate.

By the way, what a view!

It seems worse here now as well. Our bike shed has blown away. I wish it would calm down. Poor Wales. We are getting a battering.

WDTABNONONO · 07/12/2024 16:58

Almost seems worse here in East Devon now.

lostinwales · 07/12/2024 17:11

4ish seemed to be a real resurgence of the weather round here, lots of people losing tiles and concrete off houses and trees coming down all over the area. Still super gusty now but perhaps a little calmer. It is dark and I only have candles and I am a little scared!

lostinwales · 07/12/2024 17:11

@Sadik Oh no for Fishguard, I hope it's only a little bit not like the entire roof, there's barely enough facilities round here without the ones we have getting damage.

Scutterbug · 07/12/2024 17:14

Midlands and it seems to have really picked up in the last couple of hours.
I love most extreme weathers bar wind, it makes me really anxious.

BoudiccasBangles · 07/12/2024 17:25

The river has peaked here now, thank goodness. It’s still raining but hopefully there will be enough of a lull to let it go down a bit. The other side of the river is badly flooded. Feel really bad for everyone affected as they were flooded in 2020 too.

Sadik · 07/12/2024 17:26

I know @lostinwales let's hope it's not too bad. Eglywswrw school roof is damaged too apparently

121Diet · 07/12/2024 17:27

My gazebo metal shed has been destroyed

BoudiccasBangles · 07/12/2024 17:32

@lostinwales I hope you have power back soon.

Yes, it has really started roaring again, some ferocious gusts.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 07/12/2024 17:45

It's finally calm here again in Co. Cork. It went on for a very long time starting early yesterday evening. It's a storm of long duration. There are around 325,000 without power today.

Yes. I thought the peak was supposed to have passed here and the gusts were supposed to be getting less strong. Doesn’t seem like it.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/12/2024 17:49

It's definitely worse here now than earlier. DH took the dog out and there are smashed roof tiles on the ground where there weren't any earlier, as well as new damage.

Wonder if the powers that be still think Digital Voice is a good idea
