winds of 80mph are predicted to hit parts of Ireland and the UK over Friday and Saturday. I’m north wales and we’re looking at winds of around 72mph on Saturday according to the met office. Lots of local events have been cancelled. Anyone else potentially affected by the storm?

I have never driven in 70mph winds but I’m guessing it’s very much not advisable?

Wind has woken me up I think . @poppym12 I think I am fairly near you. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to go into Bristol tomorrow personally if it is still amber . The routes in and out of Bristol get horrendous after accidents which are very frequent at the best of times.

Thanks @Seaitoverthere. I doubt we'll go. Red alert was supposed to switch to amber around 11 but no sign of it easing yet. Hope you're not experiencing any damage.

AInightingale · 07/12/2024 10:56

Just read that every single train service is suspended in Northern Ireland until further notice. No let up here. The wind did ease briefly but seems to be building again.

@poppym12

How are you this morning?

caffeineanddryshampoo · 07/12/2024 11:06

On the Welsh border here and can't believe it says we are yellow zone.

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 11:14

Recycling bins all over the alleyway. Neighbours fence at the front matchwood. DH gone to move it because of his new car eejit.

No let up yet.

PandoraSox · 07/12/2024 11:39

It seems have picked up again here in South Wales.

lostinwales · 07/12/2024 11:41

It sounds like actual solid objects are being thrown at my windows at the moment, absolutely crazy gusts. Should be starting to calm after this though I think on the coast at least.

BoudiccasBangles · 07/12/2024 11:51

Worst flooding here since Storm Dennis and still rising.

Not too bad thanks @BlackeyedSusan. Garden a bit of a mess but high tide has passed now so we should be ok. How is it near you?

BlackeyedSusan · 07/12/2024 12:18

We are yellow warning. Gusts of up to 60mph. Worried about whether to let DD go out.

JoshLymanSwagger · 07/12/2024 12:20

@lostinwales Your poor little lad. 🥶

Our cats are now more active less terrified and hangry.🐟

JoshLymanSwagger · 07/12/2024 12:22

@BlackeyedSusan Depends where she's going...friend around the corner and staying in - fine. Town centre with lots of hanging signs, maybe scaffolding, cafe tables and chairs - not a chance.

Jabtastic · 07/12/2024 12:35

Still very hard gusts here and it's very sustained. I'm just very happy to have power!

BoudiccasBangles · 07/12/2024 12:39

The river is now at our front gate. This is when I begin to get edgy.

JoshLymanSwagger · 07/12/2024 12:44

NDN is out there on a step ladder putting up some bloody fairy lights on the front of his house!🤯

It's not raining at the mo, but the roof is still creaking and the trees blowing inside out.

hillyholman · 07/12/2024 12:55

88 mph wind with gusts up to 111 mph recorded near Padstow on the north coast of Cornwall

AHFBridport · 07/12/2024 13:02

DD in Bristol just messaged to say she's still alive, so that's good.

Absolute hammering rain and wind that takes your breath away here on Dorset coast, but only yellow zone, so I'm trying to imagine what it's like in red Shock.

That sounds so scary

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 13:56

Having had three massive floods lasting weeks and months for the homes to be repaired. Honestly I prefer a storm.

As well as neighbours fencing going it pulled our wall down at the front.

Builders are going to be mad busy with securing homes so I know we're going to be low priority..
DH has cleared the fencing and some wall but he had an operation yesterday and is not supposed to exert himself

lostinwales · 07/12/2024 13:59

@BoudiccasBangles Fingers crossed for you.

They've updated to say power not expected to be back on until lunchtime tomorrow 😧

BestIsWest · 07/12/2024 14:23

DM has lost her garden fence too. It seemed to get worse not better after the red warning was over.

justasking111 · 07/12/2024 14:41

It's relentless in north west Wales

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 07/12/2024 14:47

West Wales people - don't despair about the power! Ours went off at 6.30 this morning, and then back on briefly, and now seems to be back on properly°

We had texts saying it would be back late this evening or tomorrow morning, so they have exceeded expectations.

°although I am about to put dinner in the oven so we can eat it cold later if it goes off again.

caffeineanddryshampoo · 07/12/2024 14:55

Great so two rooms have leaks in the ceiling where the water is somehow coming in :(

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 07/12/2024 14:59

The lights are flickering where we are in west Oxfordshire. The wind is forecast to peak around 4pm so fingers crossed the power doesn't go out.

Also about the prepare dinner so we can eat it cold later if needs be.
