There are no weather warnings I can see on my app, all looks a bit warmer and a bit wetter. All the trains cancelled though.
is it really to be that bad? And why isn’t it on the weather apps, I’m sure it usually is.

Heavy snow here in Fife. I have to drive to Edinburgh this afternoon to collect DS who is hopefully on a train from Manchester after flying in from the Caribbean! Boy is he in for a temperature shock.

NewGreenDuck · 23/11/2024 09:26

I'm on the Yorkshire coast, it's chucking it down with rain! But, at least the snow is melting fast.

HelpMeGetThrough · 23/11/2024 09:33

Down here in Cornwall it has been a bit draughty all night.

Wind is pretty strong, gusting to 60mph at the moment.

All trains to & from Glasgow to Manchester were cancelled, so I would prepare for him needing to stop in a hotel tonight.

O don't think it's going to be bad. A few hours of rain and 40mph winds. Meh that's almost summer here 😂

And here! 😬😂

liveforsummer · 23/11/2024 09:49

I think the issue is how concentrated it is. It's going to dump a whole lot of snow in a very short time followed by the same with rain so that's why normally fairly standard winter weather is causing preemptive action

Must depend where, here in SE Cornwall, the neighbours Douglas fir trees are hardly moving, the odd gust and no rain.

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 23/11/2024 09:54

I just looked at the weather forecast for where we are, and it says that apparently we should currently have winds of 45 mph. It's not like that at all.I told DH and he said 4 to 5 more like.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/11/2024 09:56

Woken up to really strong winds in North Herts. It's rained a bit overnight and my app has just said that it's going to start raining at a very specific 10.08 am. As far as I can tell, our local festivities are still happening but I suspect that might change as the day goes on.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/11/2024 09:57

It's also weirdly warm after the very cold snap this past week. App says 61 degs tomorrow 😳

We're just over the border from you into Bedfordshire, and it's just a bit breezy here.

LesLavandes · 23/11/2024 10:06

Windy in Brighton

We are down around Falmouth. Certainly is windy. Not a huge amount of rain now though, that was earlier this morning.

Jabtastic · 23/11/2024 10:17

Not a breath of wind here at the minute (NI) but DH says it was wild earlier. I slept right through it!

Judellie · 23/11/2024 10:17

Snowed overnight in Newcastle and still snowing - tho weather app insisting it's raining! It isn't but a few miles up the road in Cramlington my brother has no snow at all, only rain.

I'm in NI too and it's still blowing a gale and lashing here. I have to go out to get mums shopping later and I'm dreading it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/11/2024 10:29

@thatsawhopperthatlemon I hope it doesn't get any worse. I'm cross that I cleared leaves and "wintered" the garden and it's covered again! It's blowing a hooly. It's a bit of a valley where I live and we seem to have a weather microsystem. Some years we've had a lot of snow but the town has not. I'm really hoping it's just passing through for now!

Westfacing · 23/11/2024 10:39

Bert Alert from SW London - a quiet morning but the wind is whipping up a bit, not much rain, although forecast was for heavy rain all day.

I have some errands to run so might just get my coat on and brave it - I can see people out with young children so it can't be that bad!

Jabtastic · 23/11/2024 10:44

DC (teen) just surfaced and said it was crazy overnight (apparently it sounded like golfballs hitting the window) so the wind was obviously coming from the south their bedroom is at the back! We also mopped up a huge puddle in the kitchen so the wind must have been bad enough to blow rain under the door.

I feel like I got away lightly now getting a good sleep!

Perihelion · 23/11/2024 10:53

Snowing in Edinburgh

TokyoSushi · 23/11/2024 11:12

Very unexciting in Warrington, a bit breezy and wet, but nothing more than your average late autumn day.

Perihelion · 23/11/2024 11:31

Bus service withdrawn in Edinburgh and the Queensferry crossing closed.

Seventimesaday · 23/11/2024 11:36

Walked up to the horses in a blizzard this morning. No electricity. No Internet. Phone lines down across the road.
kept horses in as wind is howling and snow bucketing down, turned to rain at about 9 am. Electric back on at 10 ish and internet just back on. Calming down a bit now so horses may get out for a leg stretch this afternoon.
