The met office warn of widespread totals 50-75mm with some higher ground seeing as much as 150mm by the end of the weekend.

UKV, a short term, high resolution model shows many areas reaching around 80mm. A very wet weekend to come. Not a good weekend for hill walking in much of Scotland.

An amber warning is now out in force for some central parts for tomorrow and Sunday. Up to 180mm (7 inches) of rain could fall in places.

I wonder if this is what remains of the storm that went over New York end of September.

People in the area really do need to pay heed to this warning. I know that people are pretty weather hardy in the region. Nevertheless, flooding will happen and non essential travel in the amber warning should be avoided.

Lots of roads closed and accidents/cars stuck already where we are. Cancelled today's plans and staying home. It's been torrential all night and no sign of stopping.

I'm unsurprised exfifer. It does look fairly extreme.

The rain is absolutely horrendous. We have a river down our street currently. It's not stopped since about 2pm yesterday and it's so heavy.

It’s keech!

I do wonder if the warnings should have started earlier.

Keech is a new word for me. Smile

Im not sure if I'm reading the models incorrectly, or whether the Met Office are seeing something I'm not. I think the rain in the currently very severe areas may ease off some later this afternoon/evening. Further north some very heavy rain looks likely tonight.

We're basically cut off here in Oban, roads going North, East and South all closed because of flooding, trains cancelled. several landslides at the Rest and Be Thankful, local FB site full of pictures of flooding everywhere, some cars up to their middles in water at the Lochavulin carpark (must be tourists, no local parks there when so much rain is forecast), Tesco carpark cut off because of the usual flooding at the wee roundabout. The rain is forecast to continue like this until midnight, then ease off a bit and then get worse again.

That all sounds awful. I know it's irrelevant- but Rest and be Thankful is my favorite place name..

It is a great name and it would have been such a slog walking up there before cars, you'd be very thankful for a rest.

Someone just posted this on Information Oban.
That's the Homebase, M&S, Argos carpark. Tesco is just to the right, the roundabout at the top always floods when we have a lot of rain but I have never seen it like this.

Tesco is to the left (I do know left from right, honest)

Train network is grinding to a halt in many places too with stations and lines submerged. Definitely a day to heed the warnings about only essential travel.

One of my colleagues famously couldn't remember the name & called it 'The stop & be grateful' Name stuck after that 😀
