The met office warn of widespread totals 50-75mm with some higher ground seeing as much as 150mm by the end of the weekend.

UKV, a short term, high resolution model shows many areas reaching around 80mm. A very wet weekend to come. Not a good weekend for hill walking in much of Scotland.

Video showing premier inn... I think in Grangemouth.

River level monitor Grangemouth, https://www2.sepa.org.uk/waterlevels/?sd=t&lc=14884 last recorded data at 10:45am was 1.93m

Plump82 · 07/10/2023 16:11

I just hope everyone stays safe.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2023 16:29

That's a jaw dropping set of videos Nannynick. I really do hope that everyone who has been trapped is ok.

Once the floods clear there's going to be a lot of damage to clear up. I hope that the communities get the help they need.

I'm afraid there's a new amber warning out. This is in addition to the existing amber warning and pertains to the eastern side for up to 80mm (3 inches)

Made the mistake of driving from Coatbridge to Mount Florida and back this morning. Had to take the scenic route to avoid multiple closed flooded roads. Did see one van stuck in a massive flooded road just outside Hampden. Honestly never seen anything like it in memory. Snow yes but not rain to this level.

Igneococcus · 07/10/2023 17:13

It eased off for a bit, dp and I even went for a walk in the drizzle, turned around where the multiuse path was flooded over a stretch of a good 30 m. There's often a puddle there but you can step over it, not now.
I have not seen it as bad as this before in all the years I lived here.

Stay safe stay home unless told otherwise. It's just awful.

Mercifully no reports of casualties

(Landslides hitting vehicles or inundating buildings can be very serious)

Not looking good for tomorrow either.

Hope everyone is safe (and possibly watching the rugby)

I watched the BBC News at 10pm, and now I've come looking for this thread.

I'm absolutely flabberghastedShock (and also safe in NE England). Sympathies to all you posters on here living in the middle of this.

I think if todays dreadful news wasn't happening, then this would have been more headline news.

Oh, we did!

AlexandriasWindmill · 07/10/2023 23:39

We cancelled all our plans and spent the day indoors. Looks as though we'll need to do the same tomorrow too.

TheShellBeach · 07/10/2023 23:47

We were going on holiday but there's no chance now.

Oh no, poor.you, that is so unfair.

Igneococcus · 08/10/2023 06:32

This rain is relentless, it's hammering down. Ankle-deep water running down my street.
With the A&B school holidays having started on Friday I guess a lot of people were planning to travel this weekend. A friend of mine has flights from Edi booked for today but I can't see the Glencoe route staying open considering the amount of rain that is coming down right now.

Plump82 · 08/10/2023 08:35

We've had a pretty decent break in the rain from about 8pm and it's just very light drizzle just now. Some of the footage is just terrible. I can't remember seeing rain cause this much damage up here in a long time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/10/2023 09:26

I'm sorry about your holiday TheShellBeach.

The met office have another yellow warning out for rain in much of the same area that was badly affected this weekend. This one is for Tuesday. Much less rain will fall, but it will just add to the problems created so far.
