Xmas Grin

Christmas is almost in the medium term GFS model range but it's well within the GEFS 35 day model range.

www.theweatheroutlook.com/twoforecasts/gefs-35-day.aspx

From the above link, it seems at present that the weight of the various model runs seems to show a below average surface temperature, but settled with high pressure in charge.

Of course it's a way off yet, but I'll keep the thread updated, especially as other models come into range. In the mean time lots of fog for the south of England tomorrow and heavy rain for parts of Scotland. We may see a bit of a warm up coming, but I don't think it will last long.

We have snow forecast for Christmas Eve on both Met Office and Netweather (NE) Xmas Shock

BiddyPop · 22/12/2020 20:52

I'm just happy that it looks cold and dry enough at the same time to have the wood burner in the garden on Christmas Eve night - a little Christmas magic for us.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/12/2020 22:09

It was Carpe :)

sorry I'm a rubbish forecaster this year. I'm really struggling to focus.

Christmas Eve and Christmas day look lovely. Cold and dry. Perhaps snow showers down the Eastern coast.
Boxing day a mix of heavy rain and snow move south through to 27th along with gales, perhaps touching severe along the Channel.

After that, cold, wet, snow, gales I'm afraid. I prescribe candles, wine, netflix and sugar.

Looks like my birthday on Boxing Day is going to be naff weather. Oh well, we can't go to the zoo this year but I was hoping for a decent walk with some geocaching thrown in but will have to wait and see what it's like. Youngest daughter is working (not happy as it seems her supermarket is the only one open) and eldest isn't (her shop is classed as non essential). Might just have to have a chilled day at home this year 😀

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/12/2020 22:21

If you were to have a perfect at home day, what would it be?

BullshitVivienne · 23/12/2020 12:52

My weather app said snow showers on the 27th and now it just says rain.

Masses of snow, freshly fallen from the night before so it looks beautiful.

What I don't want is a 4th day of torrential rain.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2020 21:29

A couple of nice days coming up, then I'm afraid we have a really quite nasty storm moving in Boxing Day into the 27th. Severe gales along sw facing coastal areas, widespread gales elsewhere. Torrential rain at times, perhaps turning to snow over higher ground.

Sorry!

Mid term signal is good for colder snowy weather though.

Started snowing in the North east

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2020 07:54

oooh nice. I think you can expect some snow showers down the east coast over the next couple of days.

Dementedswan · 24/12/2020 08:04

It doesn't look like it's going to lie as its too wet. But nice to see some flakes on Christmas eve Xmas Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2020 08:13

I bet!

flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings flood warnings that are currently in force. I'm afraid the Boxing Day/27th storm will add to these.

So today and tomorrow - much better Xmas Smile showers - some snowy down the eastern coast, fading out tomorrow. Colder and more festive for a couple of days.

Boxing Day we have a deep area of low pressure moving in tomorrow evening. Heavy rain moving southwards - probably turning to snow in places for a while. The bigger headline though is the wind - strengthening to 70 mph along some coastal areas in the south and west. Widespread gusts of 50mph (chicken keepers with tarps on their coops beware!)

Snow...Christmas snow...woohoo...and it's only bloody laying!!

BiddyPop · 24/12/2020 09:46

Dh said there was snow on the mountains in Tipperary when he drove through yesterday, no signs around Dublin though. But after a very wet day yesterday it is fine, bright and dry today.

Cold here (Leicester) with bright sunshine.

Blog entry on netweather with the mention of a possible SSW early January.

Pascha · 24/12/2020 10:27

It's a beautiful cold, bright, wintry day here in Kent. I wish all winter days were like this.

nannynick · 24/12/2020 11:21

Snow in Aberdeenshire (photo courtesy of my mum).
Meanwhile it's rather fresh on the Surrey/Hampshire border. Nice morning walk wearing gloves.
