Xmas Grin

Christmas is almost in the medium term GFS model range but it's well within the GEFS 35 day model range.

www.theweatheroutlook.com/twoforecasts/gefs-35-day.aspx

From the above link, it seems at present that the weight of the various model runs seems to show a below average surface temperature, but settled with high pressure in charge.

Of course it's a way off yet, but I'll keep the thread updated, especially as other models come into range. In the mean time lots of fog for the south of England tomorrow and heavy rain for parts of Scotland. We may see a bit of a warm up coming, but I don't think it will last long.

sorry! took a day off from the internet yesterday :)

Well it's actually looking quite exciting. Latest snapshot:

Christmas Eve - could see some snow through northern England Wales and perhaps moving into central southern England before fizzling out.
Some wintry showers down the east coast.

Christmas Day at present looks cold and largely dry, perhaps a few snow showers again down the eastern side.

Boxing Day - cold, with snow for much of Scotland.

27th - potentially a fair bit of snow moving southwards.

The snowy theme continues at present to the New Year, with potential for pretty much anyone.

Caveat: There's a lot of uncertainty mid week with the the development of a couple of low pressures.

I’d love some snow ❄️

BadgeronaMoped · 20/12/2020 17:08

Thanks OYBBK Grin fingers crossed!! I have taken to lurking on the Netweather forum for extra snow watching (haven't a clue what they're on about half the time but it's very fun).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/12/2020 18:00

I've just had a peek. They are very excited over there aren't they!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/12/2020 18:12

we probably don't need the extra disruption that snow would bring though.

It would keep people at home though.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 21/12/2020 07:16

Would bloody love snow but would settle for cold, crisp and bright.

Fingers crossed.

Manchester snow shield evident again Sad

nannynick · 21/12/2020 07:45

27th does look interesting. I'm working 26th so hope that day is ok for me in the South then I can hunker down on 27th.

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock73 · 21/12/2020 08:03

@beenrumbled it's those bloody Pennines!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/12/2020 09:56

The met office are now starting to mention snow in their written forecasts. Primarily eastern coast and then a more general mention of snow longer term.

It's fascinating how consistent the signals are for the 27th.

Goodness I would love some snow for Christmas. My cat wouldn't though!

Pascha · 21/12/2020 12:54

Since we aren't allowed to travel here I shall watch the rain from my windows.

xmasfairybuns · 21/12/2020 13:06

We've had rain for days and days now. I'm hoping for a massive snow fall on xmas eve which lasts for a few days.

BiddyPop · 21/12/2020 14:09

The heavy drizzle we had in Dublin this morning has significantly lightened to a very light mist. Almost no wind, Beaufort 1, maybe 2.

Hoping for it to get dry and fine for a few days now, snow would be awesome but dry would make me happy when I am finally going to get a few days off and might get out walking.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/12/2020 23:12

It's not as good as it looked really. Christmas Eve day and esp Christmas Day, look nice in general, with cold, settled weather. By Boxing Day back to unsettled. 27th stormy, mixofsnow for some northern hilly areas, wet and windy for many.

I now have 3 pairs of shoes drying out, stuffed with newspaper.

@OhYouBadBadKitten,

I love your threads! So hoping for snow this winter! It would be one good thing to brighten this shite year.

Wasn't it you who predicted 'the beast from the East' 3 years back?

fatsatsuma · 22/12/2020 09:20

Thanks for keeping us updated with your insights Kitten.

TWO people still seem fairly optimistic for the medium/longer term outlook in terms of a sustained cold period coming up, even if no significant snow for most of UK is forecast yet. What do you reckon for early January?

NoSuchThingAsCheese · 22/12/2020 15:02

I really really want some snow this year. If we are stuck at home, at least we wont have to travel in it and can enjoy it instead!

JamieLeeCurtains · 22/12/2020 15:05

I'll settle for a frosty Christmas morning right now ⛄

Thanks, Kitten.

BadgeronaMoped · 22/12/2020 17:51

Oh well, I enjoy the speculation in any case! Xmas Smile

fortyfourfeasts · 22/12/2020 20:04

Hello all. Thanks kitten. Have been dipping in and out of your thread when work permits. Looking forward to a couple of cold, crisp days at least. Here’s hoping for some snow in the not too distant future!
