I'm near Bristol. I hate the heat and am dreading the next few days. When can I realistically expect a cool down?

Agree pp, 35 degrees here. Not pleasant.

The80sweregreat · 09/08/2020 12:09

I'm a hot weather 'winger ' and been on holiday abroad , but it's just different with a breeze or a pool and air con in the room and the restaurants and places are geared up for the hot weather too. It is a bit more bearable somehow! I even lived abroad for two years with very hot summers; I was younger and thinner and although I moaned I could deal with it better ; (was long time ago though!)
Even people I know who love it hot are moaning a bit about not sleeping that well.

Where's all the storms the thunderstorms in a week was worth of rain they would lift the humidity that the weatherman promised us would be here on either Monday or Tuesday or definitely before Wednesday?

It's not coming. Seriously pissed off with weathermen predictions.

TooManyDogsandChildren · 12/08/2020 17:19

Also came on to say where are my rainstorms? 34 degrees here today and the Met Office confidently shows it is raining now. It's not. Fecking blue skies, pounding sunshine and relentless heat!

Bring the rain - I've had enough!

Agree 🥵

I’m so hot - at least a week of 30+ temperatures In the day and 20+ temperatures at night and no end before the weekend. I’m melting and cannot cool down. Yes we keep the windows closed and curtains shut during the day but it’s gone on so long all of my house is hot.

Same. Just a few wispy clouds overhead but, according to the forecast, it should have been stormy for at least an hour by now.

We have an ice pack for muscle injuries...it's fantastic. Makes life bearable for about 20 minutes

SillyLoveSong · 12/08/2020 17:55

I'm waiting for the rain to come. 97 percent chance of it at 6pm in Swindon. It doesn't look like it will happen but I have my fingers crossed.

Toilenstripes · 12/08/2020 17:59

I’m in Oxfordshire and we’re having thunderstorms right now.

The same here. I love the hot weather but the kids are fractious, sleeping with the curtains open to catch the breeze means seeing Opposite Neighbour’s on/off security light and the house never cools down that much at night so each day it’s hotter, even doing all the right things (inasmuch as I can, leaving ground floor windows open overnight to let in cool air would be a Bad Idea).
SillyLoveSong · 12/08/2020 18:09

Well blow me down with a feather. It hit 6 and started raining. Opened all my windows after having them closed all day to keep the heat out and the wind blowing through the house is heaven after the last few 34 degree days.

Duggeehugs82 · 12/08/2020 18:12

I had rain about 4 and sat in it and it was lovely , all hot again now, had awful day and this weather isnt helping.

Bookridden · 12/08/2020 19:16

Yes, I'm feeling pretty low about this weather as it's difficult to do anything. I suppose one consolation is that it's peaked today, although I'm frustrated at how slowly it will cool down.

I've always loved a thunderstorm, but what we had last night in Edinburgh and the East coast of Scotland freaked me out. It was relentless strobing lightning and the weirdest thunder, with some monumental downpours for about 3 hours and then some more at 5.30am. At least one strike within 200m of the house.
Have never experienced anything like it anywhere...and then the hottest day we've had for a while Confused
