Heatwave: when will it end?

I'm near Bristol. I hate the heat and am dreading the next few days. When can I realistically expect a cool down?

OP posts:
Toilenstripes · 07/08/2020 07:13

I’d never known sun haters until I moved to England.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 07/08/2020 07:14

I love how a couple of days of hot weather in Summer is seen as a "heatwave". Anyway, bring it on...I love the heat, anything below 20 is jumper weather.

Bluebellpainting · 07/08/2020 07:16

Hopefully not too long but it looks like it is going to last into next week. I hate anything above 24 and it is going to be 34 here on Sunday. I’m sensitive to the heat, can’t get comfortable day or night, end up with headaches despite drinking enough and often feel sick with it. But with the added trying to keep baby cool it is going to be rubbish. So with you there OP. Not everyone loves a heatwave.

The80sweregreat · 07/08/2020 07:23

The thought of manny more days of this heat fills me with horror.
It also makes me feel ill and listless and then I can't sleep and on it goes!

a12345b · 07/08/2020 08:06

Lol at extreme temperature for a few days over 20 degrees 😂

Notonthestairs · 07/08/2020 08:58

Where we live (SE) our next 7 days temps are predicted to be 34, 32, 31,31,31 and 28.

SoupDragon · 07/08/2020 09:03

Roll on autumn!

Miserable damp season filled with mouldy leaves and sludge. 😂😂

I’m with you! These hot days are our reward for putting up with damp and drizzle for most of the year.

Bring on the bikini in the garden today! And if anyone starts on about looking forward to ‘snuggling’ or ‘hot choccy & twinkling lights’, I’m gonna turn the sprinkler on you!

The80sweregreat · 07/08/2020 09:19

It's just the heat and humanity I can't stand. At least you can make yourself warm : you can't make yourself colder! Unless you have air con indoors and not many have that in the UK!
I am a legend for the whinging about the heat : a nice day with a breeze and not too hot is great , but a heatwave just makes me feel drained. I'm fair skinned too, so that doesn't help.
Let's hope it's all gone by next weekend and the temp drops in the south East.
Fingers crossed

missingmum · 07/08/2020 09:20

I can't wait for autumn and winter, I will quietly and smugly listen to all the "its freezing" comments

I wont feel the need to tell anyone "bring on more cold" or "it's only -1" "enjoy it while it lasts"

I'm in South East and it's due to hit 36, that is hot for the UK

The80sweregreat · 07/08/2020 09:27

Missingmum, join me in the whinging! 😀
It is far too hot : I'll have to 'suck it up 'as they say, but for now just let me have a rant on here. ( I can't in real life as surrounded by 'human lizard 'types 😀)
It's not too bad if your by the sea or have a breeze or a pool to cool off in or air con etc but as I haven't any of these things I'll have to just get on with it and dream of a Lotto win to get a few of these heat reduction measures!

Agreed! Grin
Our bedroom is our loft conversion and my husband who actually loves heat even said "should we get air con fitted up here". It actually felt like winning the lottery when he suggested that!

Houses in the UK are built for warmth, insulation everywhere, I'm lucky my living room is quite cool though.

HelloDulling · 07/08/2020 09:47

It’s been raining here for days, am glad to see the sun this morning!

SoupDragon · 07/08/2020 09:55

We get about 10 months of dampness in the U.K.

I can feel my mood dropping as I think of September approaching.

The80sweregreat · 07/08/2020 10:08

I think it depends where you live as to how much you can tolerate of weather in general. I'm unlucky enough to live in the south East so it's always the hottest in a heatwave and I wished I lived in Scotland when it's so intense and humid! Or by the sea. Winters tend to be milder here than wet or snowy generally speaking , so I understand why people who do like it hotter if they live somewhere where it rains a lot more during the year etc.
Temperature this high isn't good for me at all , but I do understand why some love it !

middleager · 07/08/2020 10:11

Anything over 21 is too much for me.

I live in the South East and fond the autumn/winter/spring months generally cold, damp and miserable. Hot sunny weather is so short lived in this country.
Crosswithlifeatm · 08/08/2020 09:18

It's warm her but very little sun and forecast torrential rain next week.
I'd love to see a bit of blue sky.
I'm in the west midlands.

GloriaSmud · 09/08/2020 07:21

It is looking like a warm couple of days coming up but towards next weekend it'll be cooler.
Weather warning for thunderstorms from tomorrow-Wednesday.

user1497207191 · 09/08/2020 07:24

And yet a couple of weeks ago, SM was full of people saying they HAD to go abroad for a sunny holiday because the UK weather was always crap. I wonder how many of the whingers go to the Med on holiday?

We really don't. Since lockdown, I've only needed to use my car for work 5-10 times on the rainy days, when it's not raining, I walk. That's 5-10 rainy days in nearly six months. I can see from the step counter on my phone which days I've not done much walking - usually 2 or 3 days together occasionally. People think our weather is a lot better/worse than it really is, depending on their bias. In reality, most of the time, it's pretty average, cloudy, etc rather that wet or sunny.
bumblingbovine49 · 09/08/2020 07:39

fgs. We have had a few days of very hot weather !

I.am in the SE and we had a lovely April/May ( weatherwise of course not in any other way!) Then the weather was ok and definitely not too hot in June and July. Yes we have had a couple of very hot days this month but really it is at most about a week of 26+deg temperatures spread over a month so far .

Unless you are one of those people who thinks anything over 19deg is too hot Hmm I really don't count this year as a heat wave year (so far anyway )

Ginfordinner · 09/08/2020 07:52

We really do.
You must live in a particularly dry part of the UK. I live on the edge of the Pennines, and last winter was the wettest I can ever remember. We had flooding several times, and on one occasion we were sent home from work (in Sheffield) early because so many roads were closing due to being under several feet of water.

This is the forecast for where I am at the moment.

When I retire I plan to move further south and east to get better weather.

Heatwave: when will it end?
Oblomov20 · 09/08/2020 08:27

The humidity in Dorset and Surrey has been bad. The weather today was just too hot, too humid, energy zapping.

Awaiting thunder storms, apparently predicted Monday to Wednesday.

Notonthestairs · 09/08/2020 09:09

Where we live (SE) we've had several days of 30 m-34 temps and the forecast is predicting 33 and days of thunderstorms until Thursday. Not enjoying it for a variety of reasons and dreading the increased humidity.
