Could be some embedded thunderstorms in it.

Ok we've had thunder and a cloudburst now (SW).

BurntSausage · 07/06/2019 17:48

No rumbles here but the torrential rain held itself off, very considerately, until me and DD were walking back from school. Soaked to the skin. Stopped again now Hmm

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 07/06/2019 18:32

It was consistent in it’s, rather heavy, pace here (south Warks) until about 3pm then it drizzled until 4pm & it’s now quite nice. Still getting the odd rumble in the distance though. My poor Peonies look a right state but hopefully it’ll help everything else.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2019 18:33

I've just seen what might be a video of a funnel cloud in Somerset taken at lunchtime. It's hard to see for sure, but it does look like it might be rotating. Is there anyone in that area who may have seen it?

DD is at uni in Cornwall. Where the rain today has been, and I quote, "fucking biblical".
She is one pissed off bunny . . . the spring and summer have been somewhat underwhelming and she won't be returning home for the hols with the mahogany tan she was hoping for Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2019 20:15

It's harsh for those who were hoping for a sunny end to university terms!

Thunder just passed over Risca in South Wales, disappointingly short lived but followed by yet another downpour!

It has been an exact replica of our Civil Partnership day 7 years ago.
It absolutely hammered down all day, apart from an interlude as we said our vows in the Registry Office! Then we had beautiful sunshine for photos in the grounds.
As we left for the reception the heavens opened again.
😳💧💦☔️🌊😂

I hope everyone is safe and well as I think the ground is so dry we might have flooding.

I am experimenting with a water collection system on my allotment and will return to update you if it has survived the deluge!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/06/2019 20:37

"fucking biblical" is about right for Cornish rain @ifancyagreencard! Ditto North Devon.Grin

GloriaSmud · 07/06/2019 20:37

It's been wet most of the day here (Leicester), rain was torrential about 4pm and now the sun's out and we've got a lovely evening.

(Apologies, have not posted in the MN weather section for aaaages. Life has been 'busy', not least with DD2 doing GCSEs. I'm hoping that when they finish next Friday, life will calm down a bit!)

BlackeyedGruesome · 07/06/2019 20:56

We have had lots of rain. the usual puddles were full to the maximum. The roof of the substation was one big puddle. Started about 9.50 after assembly and rained most of the day. It has been a lovely evening but a a suspiciously grey cloud is creeping in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2019 22:53

I only had 11.6mm today. It does look like the worst was to the west.

Pesky real life Gloria! Good luck to your dd!

About half an hour ago, I thought I heard thunder. But by the time I'd brought up the lightning website I realised it was going on a bit... Turned out to be fireworks!

Presumably it was someone's special day, in which case at least they got a break in the weather.

Local online weather station reports 28mm rain since midnight. (Central Hampshire).

fairylightseverywhere · 07/06/2019 23:03

We drove through the most horrendous weather this evening and unfortunately had to go over the Severn Bridge during a thunder and lightning storm, with torrential rain hammering the car so hard I couldn't hear the children shouting at me and the windscreen wipers going warp speed! Then a hailstorm which was also pretty scary to be honest. The roads were massively flooded, most people were doing no more than 20mph at the worst point and then when we got to Cardiff it looked like it had been snowing! Hail piled up everywhere, still raining torrentially, and the road we needed to go down had been flooded, there were cars up to their windscreens. Went another way and fire engine blocking the road there too so we had to do another detour. Awful journey! My daughter was amazed and scared in equal measures, as well as all that we had bright sunshine and rainbows, and she saw her first ever lightning fork too! Crazy weather!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/06/2019 23:25

Wow Fairylights! That sounds like some epic flooding. What time was this? I'm glad you got there safely.

Ah I hope they’re going well for your dd & good luck to her for the rest of them Gloria

It’s chucking it down again now but was dry from 4 until about 9:30. The dogs seemed happy it dried up for a bit. They’ve been in ‘Winter Mode’ all day aka, sleep in front of everything I might want to get to only waking & moving to the next spot where I want to be Grin

fairylightseverywhere · 08/06/2019 00:33

Between around 7 and 8.30 kitten Smile

Bluerussian · 08/06/2019 00:37

Didn't have heavy rain here in London (outskirts); a little bit of fine rain, light shower really but not all the time and it was quite warm out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/06/2019 08:12

Thanks fairylights :) I'll have a look to see how that compares in timing with some of the funnel cloud reports.

Weather warnings for rain for next week.

IrenetheQuaint · 08/06/2019 11:36

There is a yellow warning in place for London on Monday now - very heavy rain and a balmy 15 degrees Sad

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/06/2019 12:53

Next week looks decidedly wet here (South Warks) too although tomorrow looks dry. Rain from lunch on Monday, showers all day Tuesday, heavy rain all day Wednesday, showers all day again Thursday. It’s keeping the temperatures down as well.
