First hints of winter starting?

Snow warnings tonight for parts of Scotland and then through this weekend a significant cool down across the uk, perhaps possibly with some wintry showers across England next week. It’s a complex picture, that may not come off, but the most likely scenario at present does seem to be for a much colder outlook.

No snow, but a beautiful cold sunny morning here this morning.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 25/11/2017 20:55

Hurrah for a cold winter!

GloriaSmud · 27/11/2017 09:01

After a mild-ish blip today, looks like it's going to be a cold week (we've got a 'high' of 4C for Thursday!) Think the hilly areas of the UK will see some snow but might be chance of some snow flurries elsewhere as well.

Delatron · 27/11/2017 09:19

Woo hoo! Thanks for the update. I prefer cold and sunny to mild and miserable!

Would love some snow flurries in the south though!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2017 09:50

By the end of next week there may be wintry showers right across the UK.

Yes, may is the right word.
They're all getting a bit excited on the netweather message boards at the possibility of a cold winter!

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/11/2017 10:54

No snow here. Torrential rain, again :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2017 11:11

They really shouldn't! Not after last years let down.

ooh the weather forecast for the next couple of weeks is making me hold my steroid inhaler very tight.

they get it wrong so many times....please be wrong.....from what I gather there's a huge area of cold weather over us so not likely they are wrong? Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2017 12:21

latest met office contingency planners going for a colder and drier than average December, followed by a milder and wetter Jan/Feb being more likely than other scenarios.

Thanks OKitten

Delatron · 28/11/2017 09:19

Thanks OYBBK. Looking cold this week and it would be nice to have a cold Christmas even if it doesn't snow. Seems wrong when it's about 13 degrees on the day!

Justmuddlingalong · 28/11/2017 21:10

Ooooh, look. The Braemar snowgates have just been shut. Xmas Grin

ElephantsandTigers · 28/11/2017 21:13

It felt much colder today. I want a white Christmas. We've had two in 16 years Sad.

Justmuddlingalong · 28/11/2017 21:18

Sorry, forgot the pic. There was a good covering of snow the other day, but the gates stayed open. Must be expecting a good snowfall tonight. Jammy buggers. Xmas Envy

The North Westerly wind today has been bracing.... considering wind chill, Edinburgh doesn't get above freezing till Sunday, with teasing snow showers forecast this week Grin
I want to sledge this winter!

upperlimit · 29/11/2017 12:28

If one forecast says there's a 30% chance of snow tomorrow at 8am, 40% of snow at 9am and 10am and 60% chance of snow at 11 am, surely there is on aggregate, a good chance of snow? In which case, why does Alexa say there is no snow due this week.

Justmuddlingalong · 29/11/2017 12:45

She says I've got a 36% chance of snow tomorrow. That's a 64% chance it won't snow. Not good odds. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2017 17:29

GFS is really going for snow Thursday Friday next week in North Wales, across England affecting a large swathe of central areas.

Ooooo!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2017 17:44

possibly an oooo for you Meglet!

GloriaSmud · 29/11/2017 21:07

I think the GFS has been hinting at something of a snowy nature for Thurs/Fri next week, for a day or two. It'll be interesting to see if it's still going with that in the next few days.

PointlessUsername · 29/11/2017 21:42

Will London be seeing snow anytime soon?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2017 06:56

It’s hard to tell Pointless, latest GFS cancelled next weeks snow completely!

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 30/11/2017 08:51

I saw earlier this morning that next weeks snow event was cancelled

On the other hand, it's been a cold night here ~ we've had a low of -1.2C and our pond is completely frozen over!
