Current warnings from the metoffice. Looks awful for the SW ~ amber warning for rain, yellow warning for wind and there are warnings for other areas of the country today and over the next few days.

Think there are possibly signs of something a bit cooler (and how winter should be) from Tuesday onwards?

(Hope no one minds a new thread ~ weather warnings seem to be a regular thing at the moment)

I have no idea if we got the expected weather as I fell asleep ! We are having little bursts of rain, wind and sunshine in between now.

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2016 09:37

The Guardian have a live blog here on Storm Imogen (check out the trampoline pictures!)

Overcast, blustery and 6.7C here (Leicester)

It is errrr... windy here. (North Cornwall, exposed hill near coast). As in blowing like the blazes. My metal outdoor table and chairs are in the hedge (despite being weighted down with rocks) as is my beehive )no bees in it, thank goodness). We had a brief power cut but are back on again now. (Pain having to reset all the electric clocks!)
Sod off Imogen!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2016 10:17

-silly sods with their trampolines--

Its quite boring here so far. Gusting to about 45mph. I need a good gale!

MrSlant · 08/02/2016 10:50

Just been to the beach, nearly got blown over in the dunes. Waves sweeping across the beach very dangerously so warned a tonne of people who aren't normally there at that time (wave watching, brilliant fun but some people are clueless about safety, you could be off your feet in seconds). Came home absolutely invigorated though Grin.

Umm, could I trouble you for some travel advice for the end of the week. Netweather is saying that it's going to snow this weekend both for here and where we are going (coast to coast diagonally west to east) are they on glue?

HesterShaw · 08/02/2016 11:02

It was 84mph here (W Cornwall) at about 3am. The wheelie bins performing gymnastics woke me up.

PippaHotamus · 08/02/2016 12:40

Well it's still very strong here in the SE though I have no idea what the gusts actually are - probably 25 or something pathetic Grin

I've got a ton of gardening to do and it's a bit off putting.

DramaQueen - regarding your tree - how big is it? I'm just asking because you may be able to do some of the work yourselves, and then let the pros deal with the trunk and/or root system for you.

I've just cut off the tops of a tree, but left the trunk because it'll likely fall onto next door's patio and it needs cutting off in small chunks, and I don't have the time or energy with my hand saw. But the top spindly bits were great fun - as long as you tie rope to them and so on - be really careful and think it through before you start.

I have some tips if you like.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2016 13:31

there is a small chance of snow at the end of the week but its a typical battle ground scenario between mild air and cold air. The cold air doesnt look especially cold, but it is possible there may be snow along the boundary

very jealous about the wave watching!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2016 13:34

but the gfs goes bonkers for next week Confused -10C in southern England!

MrSlant · 08/02/2016 13:52

-10? Confused indeed! I tell you if it snows here after we've left and there is none at the other end my boys will never speak to me again!

PippaHotamus · 08/02/2016 13:59

-10 sounds a little extreme! I don't remember it getting below about minus 3 or 4, ever.

I would love some snow though Smile

CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2016 14:26

OYBBK. Is there even a slight hope of snow in NE Kent next week?

GloriaSmud · 09/02/2016 14:05

CatThiefKeith ~ don't know about snow next week (it's looking chilly though) but on the national weather forecast at 1.30pm, the forecaster said that for Saturday, there's a possibility of snow for the south (he even used the words 'it could get interesting!'), when a weather front tries to move in from the south and it might turn to snow where it hits the cold.

I think at the moment it's a case of 'watch this space.'

Ooh thank you Gloria. I won't pack the sledge back in the loft just yet then.

GloriaSmud · 10/02/2016 17:03

This weekend is looking a bit non-event-ish now. Rain for some, sleety stuff for others, bit of light snow for others.
There is hope though (although this is a long time ahead in forecasting-land), the GFS has been coming up for a few runs, with a chance of snow for next Wednesday. I guess it's a case of 'watch this space' between now and then.

Snow on Lake fells yesterday

Perihelion · 11/02/2016 01:02

Its going cold in Edinburgh. Frost this morning and will be again tomorrow. And then the cold seems to carry on for the next week or so. With the wind moving East ad then a nice Northerly by Saturday.......which is when I take DD riding again. Took her 2 weeks ago and stupidly said that was about as cold as it got on horseback ( cold and still strong winds from storm Henry ). Saturday is 1C with possible 30mph gusts from the North, oh and we'll be up a hill.
Think we're in the light dusting of snow area though Grin And cold and dryish is much better for half term than wet.

Talulaley · 11/02/2016 02:19

I'm a bit worried about the weather this weekend. I've got a long drive from south wales to North Yorkshire coast on Friday, returning on Sunday and they've forecast snow. OYBBK any idea how bad it's going to be, please?

C4r0n · 11/02/2016 04:39

Gritters were out in Coventry last night

GloriaSmud · 11/02/2016 16:28

Think any chance of snow at low levels has more or less disappeared for the weekend but might be some wintry stuff over higher ground. There is though a warning for snow in Scotland tomorrow, where the metoffice have issued a warning.

Interestingly, BBC weather posted this picture on twitter about snow potential next week along with "Early indications show potential for disruptive #snow Wed/Thurs next week. Watch this space... Jo"

bloody bbc wish they would stop saying "something interesting etc" never happens

GloriaSmud · 11/02/2016 17:20

I think half the trouble is the metoffice aren't totally sure what's going to happen, so both sides (BBC and metoffice) cover themselves by saying, "it could get interesting". John Hammond last night said that this weekend was a "forecasting nightmare" and it's turned into a bit of a non-event.

OP posts:
seasidesally · 11/02/2016 17:26

they said "forecasting nightmare" last weekend to Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/02/2016 18:46

There might be a bit of snow over southern hills on Saturday and some snow in parts of Scotland through the weekend.

clam · 11/02/2016 18:56

As long as my flight takes off from Stansted first thing on Saturday!!!
