For when this one gets full up :)

I was there in 1963 and remember it well, especially as we had the last pea souper fog in November 1962. I was fed up of wearing heavy pure wool coats, no light- weight padded jackets in those days. The snow melted during the day and turned to ice overnight then it snowed again. It carried on until April.

My neighbours in their 80s remember the 1947 winter < I'm too young, smile>

educatingarti · 20/01/2013 12:14

mumat39 My local Aldi have got both childrens snow boots and fleecy wellie liners in at the moment! Might be worth a look if you have one near you. I'm imagining they may sell out quite quickly in this weather though.

BanghamTheDirtyScone · 20/01/2013 12:14

Lots here in Kent and still coming, albeit in little tiny flakes.

digerd · 20/01/2013 12:16

My friend's sister lived in Cheshire and didn't get it? She lived in Alderly Edge.

awaywego1 · 20/01/2013 12:16

Thanks making for giving me hope Grin

MooncupGoddess · 20/01/2013 12:18

Still snowing lightly but persistently in central London. Rather lovely to see it falling through the church windows as we sang Epiphany music. Walking past St Paul's afterwards I was stopped by some excitable American tourists who wanted someone to take a photo of them in the snow by Temple Bar.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/01/2013 12:24

Still persistently snowing here in SW London - desperately don't want to lesson plan, but have an observation tomorrow so probably will have to!!!!

pigsinmud · 20/01/2013 12:45

Snow here in mid surrey is a bit pathetic. Very light, but been going since 8:30.

I usually find the met office and the bbc have the same forecast for me. They certainly do today - light snow until 9pm,

edam · 20/01/2013 12:53

1963 was also the year of the worst sea flooding ever in the UK. Something like 300 people were killed and loads more made homeless. Floods stretched all the way from Lincolnshire down to Kent IIRC, and the fields were so badly affected not only were the crops ruined, nothing would grow the following year - too saline.

Jazzicatz · 20/01/2013 12:58

Really heavy snow in Brighton, surprised as the weather report just said for light snow, but its been constant since about 9am

redwellybluewelly · 20/01/2013 13:04

edam the floods you are speaking of were I think in 1953 not 1963. Wiki it

edam · 20/01/2013 13:05

Oops, yes, it's the 60th anniversary coming up, not the 50th.

Skang · 20/01/2013 13:06

It's been snowing hard and fast all day here in near Colchester, but it's really fine snow.

Why is it so fine??

DamnDeDoubtance · 20/01/2013 13:07

Just built a huge snowman with DD and my dad. In for lunch then we are off out on the sledge again.

I am soooooooo happy. Grin Grin Grin

redwellybluewelly · 20/01/2013 13:11

Checking in to say that its bright and lovely although sun hidden, lots of snow on the ground. I think dd and I will brave work tomorrow as I've lost a week so far.

Still. Ours is meant to hit later this afternoon/evening I think

TheSkiingGardener · 20/01/2013 13:17

Ok, snowman has been built, snowballs have been thrown and general fun has been had!

Only problem with being 36 weeks pregnant is you get knackered quickly, so in now with a latte and the papers while DS sleeps.

Coming down quite heavily ow in Bromley, will be keeping an eye on the roads as we're meant to be travelling back to Southampton tonight. DH just went out for the papers and all main roads are clear so we may get there.

MumVsKids · 20/01/2013 13:25

Nothing in derby :(

Gutted!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/01/2013 13:27

I'm not sure why it is so fine! Its a bit pointless really as its just not accumulating. It must be something to do with humidity/temperature ratios.

StairsInTheNight · 20/01/2013 13:29

Its snowing nicely here in SE London. Has been falling all day. I estimate we have 3 inches settled. Sadly DS is not well, hoping we can get out tomorrow and do the igloo though!

lubeybooby · 20/01/2013 13:32

It really is fine - we've had about 1.5cm since 9am, pathetic really.

Oh well at least it's been enough to make it all pretty again going over footprints etc.

cocolepew · 20/01/2013 13:34

Two and a half cms outsude our house, DD measured it Grin, we're in Co. Down.

Snowing steadily atm, earlier it was like little ice balls falling.

Sparklegeek · 20/01/2013 13:38

Been snowing since 7-ish I think here on the Essex coast. I reckon we have about 7cm so the fine stuff is accumulating when there's enough of it! At long blimmin last.

MaureenMLove · 20/01/2013 13:40

Looking good for a white out tomorrow!

Thing is, school invested in a snow plough last year, so the premises will be safe and clear, but how many staff members will get in to make it safe to have kids there? I'll have to walk I expect and it'll be a hellava day for me. I'm the one who organises cover for absent teachers! I can think of at least a dozen teachers that will struggle to get in.

Ah well, what will be, will be. Until then, I sit and look at the loveliness of it all!

LillethTheCat · 20/01/2013 13:45

lilleth - none of them -you go with the met office Thanks I will try to get used to the Met Office website. Id like it a bit more if I could zoom in on the weather warnings map or they had place names on there. I cant tell where I am properly.

TwllBach · 20/01/2013 13:54

It's started snowing again
