Looking potentially very serious indeed for the eastern seaboard of the US, perhaps including NYC if some models are correct. The storm will probably be extra tropical but nevertheless if it interacts with a trough modelled off the east coast that could bring down arctic air then the result could be approaching catastrophic, with utterly torrential rain, severe blizzards, hurricane force winds and severe storm surges all being possible.

I think people will be getting very worried about this. Mon tues weds are the days to be watching. Lets hope the storm turns east away from the us coast.

NYU Hospital generator had a fault. They're reportedly manually bagging pediatric ventilator patients. Sad

ElaineBenes · 30/10/2012 03:47

I'm in NYC. All ok here where we are, even have electricity although lights are flickering so not sure itll last and we have a fallen tree blocking our road. I think we've been through the worst. It did get a bit scary a couple of hours ago but it's calmed down now.

They've evacuated the nyu hospital patients to other hospitals.

GloriaSmud · 30/10/2012 06:25

Hope everyone has managed to keep safe and to those waiting for news of loved ones, hope they make contact with them very soon.

GloriaSmud · 30/10/2012 06:30

The BBC has some pictures on their website.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 30/10/2012 06:38

VintageRainBoots · 30/10/2012 06:43

My father evacuated yesterday, but we still have lots of friends and family on the East Coast.

VintageRainBoots · 30/10/2012 06:45

Soggy, I heard that, too. I hope they were able to move the babies to other hospitals.

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 30/10/2012 07:08

Thinking of everyone on the NE coast of America. It looks horrendous. Sad

lisad123 · 30/10/2012 07:21

No news from friends yet but hoping they are ok as looks like floods are worst thing in NY, and they are in hotel.
Seen there has been some deaths and a massive fire in queens which involves 15 houses!

mamas12 · 30/10/2012 07:24

VikingVagine · 30/10/2012 07:56

Some of my close family are in Easton, haven't had any news yet, but looking at local news there mainly just seems to be power cuts.

yourheadonastick · 30/10/2012 08:15

Looks a terrible storm. Hope everyone in the area is ok.

BartimaeusNeedsMoreSleep · 30/10/2012 08:24

Our friends live in Manhattan and she gave birth last week so we're concerned about her, as she had complications after the birth and had to stay in hospital, but in theory was being let out on Sunday...
We're crossing our fingers for some good news from them - and I hope they're well stocked in nappies etc as I suspect they'll be hard to get hold of! Smile

Scary pictures on the news today.

OhYouBigBadBeast · 30/10/2012 08:27

Morning all,
Just catching up with the news. It looks devastating in parts, the storm surge in NY was higher than predicted and reports of the subways and tunnels being flooded. It could take a long time to clear those up.

Still haven't had a txt or call from ds but just saw a photo of him and the rest of the students snuggled in sleeping bags in the ballroom of their hotel Smile Looked like they were watching a movie

OhYouBigBadBeast · 30/10/2012 09:10

aww mumble :) thats nice. He might be sleeping.

Did I hear it right on TWC? A fifty building fire?? awfully scary. 7 subways flooded apparently.

Both LaGuardia and JFK runways ended up under water, so some patience may be needed before they can open them up I'm afraid.

OP posts:
OhYouBigBadBeast · 30/10/2012 09:18

:( the 50 building fire is confirmed by other sources - it turns out they are homes that flooded. Those poor poor people.

OP posts:
OhYouBigBadBeast · 30/10/2012 09:22

Apparently LaGuardia is closed but JFK is open.

Morning, haven't really caught up on the earlier thread but just checking in as I'm awaiting news from family in NY, including some who live in the Zone A evacuation zone, FDR Drive, lower east side. Sad.

fledtoscotland · 30/10/2012 09:32

Supposed to be flying out Thursday (my best friends 40th birthday present). Air lingus flight still showing although prob delayed.

Can't imagine what it must be like in Virginia and New Jersey

Yogagirl17 · 30/10/2012 09:36

Was it bad in Virginia as well? Shit, family there too.
