Looking potentially very serious indeed for the eastern seaboard of the US, perhaps including NYC if some models are correct. The storm will probably be extra tropical but nevertheless if it interacts with a trough modelled off the east coast that could bring down arctic air then the result could be approaching catastrophic, with utterly torrential rain, severe blizzards, hurricane force winds and severe storm surges all being possible.

I think people will be getting very worried about this. Mon tues weds are the days to be watching. Lets hope the storm turns east away from the us coast.

Coney Island webcam, here

OhYouBigBadBeast · 30/10/2012 09:46

I think Va caught a glancing blow - heavy rain and gale force winds. W. Va are having a lot of snow and parts are under a blizzard warning.

Which airport are you going to fled??

I think for those coming home, inevitably theres going to be a backlog of people to get through.

I really hope you hear from them soon yogagirl.

4 to 5 feet, not 45 feet, I think.
Still bad enough though.

Triggles · 30/10/2012 10:56

We have family in W Virginia, as well as coastal Maine. Those in W Virginia are okay at this point, but still waiting to see how Maine is going to be hit.

Hope everyone who is there and who has family/friends there is safe.

OhYouBigBadBeast · 30/10/2012 11:08

Morning [hsmile]
It looks like we didn't even lose power overnight. I can hear sweeping outside and the occasional distant siren.

spamm · 30/10/2012 11:32

Hello all from Northern Virginia, where we have more than 400,000 homes without power according to our electricity company. We did not loose power but it was not a nice night. Wind was bad until 3am at least - not sure, as I finally could not stay awake. But it is still raining and they estimate we have had over 6 inches so far. Looking at the weather map, it could rain all day and we might get snow.

DH and I will venture out later to walk the dog and see what the neighborhood looks like. No school or work today.

NYC certainly looks like it bore the brunt of it. Hope all the MNers there are ok!

Yogagirl17 · 30/10/2012 11:40

Well family near Boston has checked in to say wild storm but all ok and they didn't even lose power. That's one down. More worried about the New Yorkers - think my folks may be without power.

TalkinPeace2 · 30/10/2012 11:52

yogagirl
Zone A evacuation was done really thoroughly - as with Irene - every house checked, everybody allocated a space in a shelter in Zone B
they will not be in their house
and the shelters have genertors

for those in the first building in Zone B its probably been a long night. Hope he's OK

What non natives forget is that New York is actually pretty steep up towards the middle and midtown - so its ONLY the edges and below 1st street that are really at risk.

Been following this all night on and off

Really good to 'hear' people checking in
Hope all your families are safe

Yogagirl17 · 30/10/2012 12:05

Family north of NYC have no power, and may be without for a week, but otherwise fine. Still waiting to hear about those from the lower east side -am sure they will have gone somewhere safe but will be nice to hear.

OhYouBigBadBeast · 30/10/2012 12:36
