Bah humbug

I found this evidence snowy winter

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/10/2012 10:12

It's not evidence but it is an interesting theory QM and one that I'm keeping an interested eye on. Our weather patterns are really complex so it's never really down to one factor but more of when several factors come together in the right way.

straighttohellymelly · 13/10/2012 15:09

What size Yaktrax do I need for a 5-6 shoe? Can't find any guidelines.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/10/2012 15:17

SHriek - would you consider asking tech to move this to the weather section please, it makes me happy when all the weather threads are nicely corralled Grin

For size 5 shoes I got small ones. They are brilliant.

KitCat26 · 13/10/2012 16:12

I predict heavy snowfall in west suffolk before Christmas. Purely because we are having some work done and will be without central heating for a few weeks. I hope I'm wrong though!

DH on the other hand is praying for a long snowy winter because he has stocked up on winter tyres and needs to sell them and he will be at work and not in a freezing cold house with two small children.

Lifeisontheup · 13/10/2012 16:28

Do you think I would be able to wear yaktrax on magnum work boots? I know I'll have to get into work if it snows and our boots are useless in the snow.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 13/10/2012 16:33

we now have a hail storm!
Kitten I will ask for this to be moved (unless you've already done it?)

I did ask, but tech said you had to ask and for me to ask you. Grin we had a bit of hail too. Showers were beefier than I expected. Some lovely clouds though - all billowy and convective.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/10/2012 17:07

Life, he's but I'd probably size up if you are close to the size boundary. Mine go on over my walking boots.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/10/2012 17:07

He's? It was supposed to say yes. Silly iPad.

nipersvest · 13/10/2012 17:12

it can't snow. i've just had turf laid in the garden.

of course that now means we'll have 2 ft and it'll set as rock hard ice for weeks.

straighttohellymelly · 13/10/2012 17:15

I'm going to buy them for all of us then. Although dd2 is too small, the smallest are for a size 1 so will just about do dd1. Im I mad for feeling excited about yaktrax? I hate slipping about on ice.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/10/2012 17:22

We have plenty of weather to look forward to before winter (or not! Depending on your perspective) I might start a thread tomorrow on the potential for a nasty storm mid week, but I want to see how the models develop it for another couple of runs.

SugariceAndScary · 13/10/2012 17:26

No hail here Grin but it's very chilly with a bright blue sky, lovely light at this time of year too!

I too am stupidly excited about buying yaktrax, please let it snow.

DizzyHoneyBee · 13/10/2012 17:27

No berries here and our strawberry plant has just flowered again - it flowered in February and again this month.

TwllBach · 13/10/2012 17:58

It is soooo cold here, the temperature has really dropped over the last couple of days. I'm hoping for a few snow days I'm ashamed to say, as I work in a school. Just one or two, mind!

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/10/2012 18:27

It is not allowed to snow. I live on a steep hill and I am pregnant, and I refuse to walk to work on sheet ice, and I also refuse to give birth on my own because the midwife can't get here.

JsOtherHalf · 13/10/2012 20:40

Aldi have some electric throws on special offer from tomorrow for £30 , might be worthwhile for some people ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/10/2012 20:55

I'm too hot this evening. Still learning how to use our wood burner and its currently 25c in here.

auldspinster · 13/10/2012 21:28

Walking poles are good for walking on packed snow or ice, I used to be a nervous wreck walking in wintery weather till I got a pair.

Trazzletoes · 14/10/2012 07:34

Not unreasonable to be excited about buying Yaktrax. They are the most amazing things ever! I was very pregnant last winter and hate walking on snow and ice. I only fell over when I forgot to put them on.

There should be a size guide on their website...maybe under FAQs? If you want them to go over walking boots etc you will probably need to go for a larger size as the sizes are not terribly generous. Having said that, mine still work fine on my trainers.

AnEerieAirOfHorror · 14/10/2012 07:42

Congrats on pg MrsB when are you due?

My first dc was born in fed 09 and there was snow on the road when i was in labour going to hospital and i staied for 6 days and missed most of the snow lol

forevergreek · 14/10/2012 08:13

Another boot of wonder. I just brought some sorrel boots :) they are lovely! It's what everyone in Canada buys and they are 100% waterproof too ( well so the man in Colombia store told me)

I am now within walking distance from work so v much doubt I can get a snow day

SuePurblybilt · 14/10/2012 08:28

Arf at OYBBK being tidy. I so agree Wink

I have snow boots and a sledge AND have moved to a town where I will not be snowed in. So it is unlikely to snow, sorry.

TobyLerone · 14/10/2012 08:29

I don't care when it snows as long as the roads are ok for my wedding in January. I'd hate for people not to be able to come. Trust me to have chosen a venue in the middle of nowhere.
