Does anyone fancy a weaning 'what have you eaten today' thread?

I am struggling for ideas this time and thought thought that this could be a good way to share ideas, if anyone is interested.

DD is 6.5m. Mainly BLW but with the occasional spoon fed meal if it makes more sense to spoon feed.
Number of meals depends on what is going on but God help me if I am eating and she is not.

So yesterday
Breakfast- porridge with banana puree mixed in.
Lunch- avocado on toast
Tea- sweet potato wedges

DD2 tends to have more meals when dd1 is home from nursery as they eat together.

Great idea for a thread!

Our weaning journey got off to a rocky start as my DS has been diagnosed with FPIES, with peanut being his trigger food. We have a bank of safe foods and each new food has to be introduced 3x before it can be considered safe. As a result of this, we are just doing breakfast and lunch with solid food.

Today was

B- Mushroom and potato puree
L - Lentils with steamed carrot and broccoli florets on the side

MonkeyPuddle · 17/05/2021 19:52

Today DD (6.5mo) has had smushed up prune and Philadelphia on some toast (she sucked it to within an inch of its life) at lunch
Some baked beans, leftover salmon and half a rice cake for tea.

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 17/05/2021 21:46

Ah hello,
I'd given up hope if any weaning friends.

Today DD had
Breakfast- chunk of banana
Lunch- cream cheese on toast (also sucker to death)
Tea- mash, carrot batons, broccoli and green beans.
A brief suck on a milk chocolate magnum that she made a lunge for while DH was eating it and holding her. Blush

That sounds tricky @Sairafina I have lots of allergies but have been lucky that neither of my girls seem to have inherited them.

How did you prep and feed your DD the salmon @MonkeyPuddle. I have completely forgotten how I did this with dd1 and seem to be much more wary with dd2.

I’ll join!

Today ds (6months) had
Breakfast: oat milk porridge with blueberries and chia jam and half a crumpet with almond butter
Lunch: half a pouch of beef casserole (Aldi) as was eating out and the cafe was definitely not baby friendly food
Evening meal: curried vegetable and lentil bake with broccoli florets. And coconut yogurt with prunes for pudding.

He has taken to solid food with gusto!

Lnix · 17/05/2021 22:14

Hi! I'll join too!

Today DS 6.5 months had:
B: Wheatbix with milk and some mango puree mixed in;
L: Fish pie pouch as we were out and about, teeny yoghurt after.
D: Mashed up spag bol with broccoli florets on the side, which were mostly squished.

MonkeyPuddle · 18/05/2021 00:41

@WithRosesAroundTheDoor it was just a frozen salmon that I cooked in the oven in some tin foil with some lemon juice on it, just broke it into chunks to serve.

GemSmith738 · 18/05/2021 18:07

Today we had;
Breakfast- strawberries
Lunch- jacket potato, cheese and banana
Dinner- slow cooker beef, carrots, onion and potato

twiggytwoo · 18/05/2021 18:12

Excellent thread! I'm envious of your eaters.

Today we had:

  1. banana and porridge - not eaten
  2. toast, omelette, and cucumber - cucumber and toast sucked

DC won't take a spoon and won't pick up other foods when BLW eg. Veg or even pancake type things.

MonkeyPuddle · 18/05/2021 18:28

DD had 2 smushed prunes mixed into some yoghurt and then a dinner of leftover veggies and hummus, my fave hummus, the Moroccan spiced one from morrisons. I hope she knows how lucky she is.

SkyTrees · 18/05/2021 19:37

Since starting weaning have discovered that DS has cows milk allergy - he comes out in rash/hives instantly after eating any dairy milk/yogurt/cheese. Bit of a pain but luckily he doesn’t seem to be affected by my breastmilk.

Today he has had

B: oat milk porridge with blueberries and chia jam and half a crumpet with almond butter.

L: refried beans from last night, mixed with coconut yogurt and chopped tomato. Wedges of tomato and couple fingers of flat bread.

D: parsnip and apricot mash with sesame tuna steak. Plus some strips of stir fried peppers. Then vanilla coconut yogurt with pear purée for dessert.

Lnix · 18/05/2021 19:40

Over here we had

B: wheatabix and fruit
L: chicken/pear/parsnip casserole, slices of tomato (sucked)
D: curried lentil bake, 1/2 a yoghurt

SkyTrees · 18/05/2021 19:42

@twiggytwoo it’s frustrating when they don’t eat! How old is your DC?

DisneyGirl2387 · 18/05/2021 19:48

Oo can I join! DS is 6 and a half months.
We are onto 2 meals a day now.
Breakfast porridge with mushed in banana
Late lunch sweet potato, pea and sweetcorn puree with some finger food toast and a piece of orange (random)
Have you dropped any milk feeds with yours. I'm still offering 5 bottles 7oz at usual times. Today he drank and ate everything I offered!!!! He has been sick quite a lot though (he is on medication for reflux). I'm worried I'm over feeding him. He also loves his water and guzzles on it like a mad thing. He cries when i take his sippy cup away.

What times are you giving the 5 bottles? I can't fit that many in as well as solids! Mine is 6.5 months too 😀

We do:
8oz milk at 7am
Breakfast 8.30/9
Lunch at 12.30
6oz milk at 2.30
Dinner at 5
8oz milk at 6.30
5oz milk during the night

(He dropped his 'lunch' milk when I started him on protein at lunch time).

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 18/05/2021 21:10

Thank you @MonkeyPuddle
I am very jealous of some of your menus. My DH is bloody boring and I end up cooking things that I know he will eat so not much is exciting.
Today DD had
B- Weetabix with Aldi fruit puree mixed in
L- scrambled egg and toast (not keen on the scrambled egg at all)
Natural yogurt
T- homemade pesto pasta with roast veg
Strawberries

She is such a little chunk and is still having all of her milk feeds too.

OP posts:
Sairafina · 19/05/2021 01:36

Today we had

7am 5oz breastmilk bottle
8am strawberries
9.45am 5oz breastmilk bottle
11.30am mashed avocado and butterbean with asparagus spears for dipping. This was from the Wean in 15 book - some great ideas in there
12.15pm 5oz breastmilk bottle
3.30pm 5oz breastmilk bottle
7pm 5oz breastmilk bottle
10.30pm 5oz breastmilk bottle

SkyTrees · 19/05/2021 19:18

Evening all. Today was..

B: oat milk porridge with blueberries and pear purée and half a crumpet with almond butter

L: I mixed last nights parsnip and apricot mash with some flakes of sesame tuna steak, some coconut yogurt and some peanut butter - surprisingly tasty. Then broccoli florets as finger food. Followed by slices of pear and banana.

D: tomato and aubergine pasta with more broccoli florets, followed by mushed banana and chia jam in vanilla coconut yogurt

Lnix · 19/05/2021 19:55

These kids eat so well!

For us today was...

B: Wheatabix with milk and mango puree
L: Turkey and pear casserole with slice of tomato on the side. Peach puree dessert.
D: Cheesy leek and potato stew. Few pieces of strawberry afterwards.

MonkeyPuddle · 19/05/2021 20:43

B - philly on toast
T - gnocchi and sauce

12cody96 · 19/05/2021 20:51

Breakfast - weetabix with milk and banana
Lunch - Cheese on toast, fruit pot for pudding
Dinner- Chicken omelette with cheese, spinach and tomato, yogurt for pudding.

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 19/05/2021 22:42

I'm finding this thread so useful. Thank you all.
B- Porridge with raspberry puree
L- celery soup and toast
T- chicken leg (gnawed like a cave baby) potato wedges and carrot batons

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 20/05/2021 20:51

Today DD had
No breakfast as we needed to go out
Lunch- jacket potato with cheese, tomato and cucumber
Tea- omlette with mushrooms and peppers, roast butternut squash.

SkyTrees · 20/05/2021 22:00

Almost forgot to post today’s menu!

B: oatmilk porridge with chia jam and pear and half a crumpet with almond butter

L: Parsnip apricot mash concoction with tuna steak, coconut yog and peanut butter again. With a courgette and banana muffin.

D: Sweet potato mash and kale blended to make ‘sauce’ for some pasta as our sauce wasn’t at all suitable. Broccoli florets and another courgette muffin. Followed by vanilla coconut yogurt with chia jam.

SkyTrees · 20/05/2021 22:03

@WithRosesAroundTheDoor was the chicken leg well received and did your baby manage to eat much of it? How did you prepare? It’s not something I’ve much experience of cooking as the others in my house prefer breast

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 20/05/2021 22:07

It was just pulled off a roast chicken. She seemed to really enjoy it and definitely managed to get some of it, she now has 2 bottom teeth and there were gnaw marks in it.
