I'm not after any debate/argybargy - just curiuos to know what people do.
my dd is 20wks & am not sure whether she is ready for it yet - her weight gain has really slowed down & she's dropeed from teh 75th to under teh 50th percentile so I think she might be.
TIA

7 months, was a month prem and fully breastfed.

KristinaM · 18/11/2006 15:16

they were all 6 months and 2 were fully BF

Betty - if you baby isnt gaining as much weight, why woudl you want to start solids???? Milk has more calories than baby rice or pureed pears!!

Dottydot · 18/11/2006 15:18

ds1 at 16 weeks and ds2 at 14 weeks. Both loved it and were easy to wean - although both rejected baby rice as vile!

deaconblue · 18/11/2006 20:05

Ds at 20 weeks. I was desperate to do as I was told and wait til 6 months but he was soooooo hungry. He loved everything from the start and we've had no problems so far by starting a bit earlier than recommended. He's 30 weeks now.

CountTo10 · 18/11/2006 20:11

Started weaning at 16weeks. Ds had refulx and was a very hungry baby so health visitors advised early weaning. The guidelines had only been changed from 4-6mths a couple of months before hand so they were quite relaxed about it unlike me who stressed a lot!!!!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 18/11/2006 20:23

About 17 wks, very hungry boy and has got reflux. Very sensible and helpful health visitor helped me loads

hotmama · 18/11/2006 20:29

DD1 was 24 weeks and dd2 was 27 weeks. DD1 was bf until 10 weeks and dd2 is still being bf.

wrinklytum · 18/11/2006 20:37

DS 5 months.Mixed bf and formula fed by this stage
DD 17 weeks hungry and refluxy so started early.BF ongoing

tortoiseshell · 18/11/2006 20:37

Marne · 18/11/2006 20:43

asleep · 18/11/2006 20:47

My ds was 4.5 months...didnt wait til 6 mths as advised as just felt he was ready. Havent looked back since...he loves his food, no allergy probs. Did wait til 6mths before giving cereals.

suedonim · 18/11/2006 21:29

Ds1 6wks (in 1975) and he was off bottles and on three meals a day by 6mths as was usual then.

Ds2 4mths (1979) (he's the one who has the allergies not ds1, even tho he was weaned later)

Dd1 4mths (1987)

Dd2 4+mths (1996) but she could easily have made it to 6mths, if only I'd known about the 6mths thing. Stupidly, I believed my HV that if I missed the 4-6mth 'window of opportunity' she'd never learn to chew. Wish I'd had MN then.

fondant4000 · 18/11/2006 21:42

DD at 24 weeks, but I wish I'd held out a bit longer and avoided pureeing. Incredibly picky and fussy since start of weaning (3.5 yrs).

Next one due this week - will wait at least 6 months and go straight to finger foods if possible.

Oh and it didn't stop dd waking in the night or decrease her bfing at all - despite what I was told!

kid · 18/11/2006 21:44

DD was 16 weeks,
DS was 14 weeks.

I began weaning DD at 20 weeks and we're around 4 weeks in. She's good with most things I have fed her, but thinks baby rice is disgusting (she's right). Some days she doesn't seem too interested, but other days she cries when I go too slow so I try to follow her lead.
She's pretty keen to feed herself though, and gets her fingers in the food, spreads it all over her face etc. I'm just trying to make it lots of fun for her. I know it is a little early, but she seems to enjoy it and clearly wanted to join in with meals, so it seems to be right for her.

BuffysMum · 18/11/2006 21:50

dd1 at 14 weeks as you did in those days

dd2-4 at 6months+ the middle two were whoppers 10lb at both and 98th cetile but they were happy on milk and were on finger food within a couple of weeks - in fact dd4 a few days!

They were all different though HTH

scaryt · 20/11/2006 08:42

DS 6 months, straight to finger foods.
Had thought I might wean earlier as he's a big boy and lots of people kept saying he'd need food early, so I kept an open mind. But he was fine on just milk and he was gaining weight and I've enjoyed missing the puree phase.

Ali5 · 20/11/2006 11:41

Just started DS on baby rice, age 19 weeks 2 days! Discussed with HV coz of advice of waiting til 6 months but had noticed some of the signs. HV said they were confused when advice changed from 4 months to 6 months, as no real reasons given from Dept of Health. In our case, no reason to wait if I thought baby was ready.

Tutter · 20/11/2006 11:45

20 weeks

(he's now 16mo)

wanted to wait til 6 months but he started waking earlier and earlier int he night, and lost weight

madmarchhare · 20/11/2006 11:49

14 weeks on advise from HV that it was either 14 weeks or 14 pounds.

This was before the current rec of 6 months and I didnt know any better.

It went well I suppose.

nogoes · 20/11/2006 12:01

Ds was 20 weeks, he had started refusing milk and hv suggested starting him as she said he would probably start taking the milk again if I introduced solids. I thought she was completely batty but I gave it a try and it worked! I only gave pureed fruit & Veg until he was about 7 months.

Enid · 20/11/2006 12:12

dd1 = 17 weeks
dd2 -= 14 weeks
dd3 = 25 weeks (the best and easiest IMO)
