I'm not after any debate/argybargy - just curiuos to know what people do.
my dd is 20wks & am not sure whether she is ready for it yet - her weight gain has really slowed down & she's dropeed from teh 75th to under teh 50th percentile so I think she might be.
TIA

Ds was 9 weeks (yes 9!!) he was such a hungry baby I couldn't keep up with him.. he downed 9oz bottles of hungry baby formula every 45 mins and no-one believed me till I plonked hiim in front of a HV for 2 hours - 3 bottles later she admitted he needed baby rice and fast!! he yummed it up, wanted more and slept throught that night! He is and always has been a skinny malinky too!!

DD was 16 weeks and boy was she ready for it too!

Tanktop · 18/11/2006 10:56

First tried at 4months as adviced by HV but DS was not interested so tried again at 5 months. She is now 2years and still a struggle to feed.

hulababy · 18/11/2006 10:58

DD was 15 or 16 weeks (now 4y), and done at advice of HV. She took to it immediately.

eidsvold · 18/11/2006 11:25

dd1 was 16 weeks when we slowly started weaning her - took a number of weeks to get beyond a few spoonfuls of rice cereal.

dd2 was 6 months but she seemed to go to more 'foody' things much quicker than did dd1.

Aderyn · 18/11/2006 11:28

DD1 @ 19 weeks in 2003
DD2 @ 26 weeks in 2006

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/11/2006 11:29

25 weeks and he's only now (14 months) starting to eat properly. i don't think he was really ready when i started him TBH.

tribpot · 18/11/2006 12:11

Like purplemonkey - started at 26 weeks, ds has only really got interested recently, he's now 17 months!

DS1 was 26 weeks.

DS2 was 27+3.

Neither ate anything in any great quantity till they were 8 months - and DS2 doesn't regularly consume vast quantities of anything even now at 10mo today.

DizzyBint · 18/11/2006 12:29

26 weeks

Quootiepie · 18/11/2006 12:48

6 months exactly.

Tinker · 18/11/2006 12:50

1st at 4 months as per advice at times - no eating problems

2nd at 6 months as per advice at time - fussy pants. Think she just eats enough to stop hunger.

Would still wait to around 6 months if ever had another.

PinkTinsel · 18/11/2006 12:53

dd was 4.5 months and it was far too soon. i weaned early as i thought it would help the reflux and sleep and it did neither and she has all sorts of intolerances now

will be doing ds at 6 months

PinkTinsel · 18/11/2006 12:59

o and she's a ridiculously fussy eater too

Gillian76 · 18/11/2006 12:59

DD1 about 18 weeks. Lots of mush and a total faff.

DD2 about 10 months. Started trying at about 6 months but she has lots of allergies and kept vomiting everything we gave her. Once we got to grips with that we were away!

DS about 6 months but can't remember exactly. Never made any particular 'baby' food for him.

cece · 18/11/2006 13:58

DD was 16 weeks as per the advice at the time, in hindsight she could have waited a bit.

DS was 15 weeks, against the advice at the time, as he was hungry. First meal consisted of 10 spoonfuls of baby rice. The next day he had 15! Still eats like a horse now.

redbullandbump · 18/11/2006 14:06

ds at 3 1/2 months no problem took to it straight away, he was at this age having a 6oz bottle every hour and it still wasnt satisyfiying him thats when i started him on solids

Twiglett · 18/11/2006 14:10

DS .. advice was 16 weeks and I didn't realise it was a lower limit so started him at 14 weeks

DD .. advice was 26 weeks so started at 26 weeks

much easier and quicker at 26 weeks than 14 if you ask me

beansprout · 18/11/2006 14:19

7 months

motherinferior · 18/11/2006 14:36

DD1 at around five and a half months, which was late for then
DD2 at just under six months.

Weaning is such a dreadful faff, I loathe it. Leave it as long as you can, I'd say.

maretta · 18/11/2006 14:39

DS1 16 weeks
DS2 26 weeks

queenofpuddings · 18/11/2006 14:40

6 months

AitchTwoOh · 18/11/2006 14:43

6 months, but she wasn't desperate for food even then, just played with it and sucked it and such.

CorrieDale · 18/11/2006 14:56

6 months, straight onto finger foods. Messy but stressless & fun. Will deffo be doing the same with number 2.
