SMA MILK - HUGE PRICE INCREASE - WARNING

Popped in my local co-op today and a 900gm tub of toddler follow on milk has increased from £7.30 to £9.40 !!

First of all i thought it was a mistake but soke to co-op customer care and they said its correct. The rrp is now £9.40 ...............i didn't think they 'd stop so low as to profiteer out of baby milk.
Shocking price increase and the co-op said other supermarkets will follow.

Anybody heard anything about this ?

despite what the flossy adverts portray, the manufacturers of baby milk, in fact ANY foodstuffs are not doing for our benefit you know.

they have created a need, and can now shaft you right royally in the smug knowing that you will buy it for fear of you 'depriving' your child

It's very expensive but it's toddler milk.

You don't need to buy it - you could just give your child ordinary milk.

I thought i'd just let people know there's a price increase so they could get a few in.............no big deal and perhaps i shouldnt have bothered

Shops don't supply 'baby milk' out of a sense of philanthropy, they do it to make a profit.

The whole point of toddler milk is to profiteer. Its not a necessary product, just a heavily and cleverly marketed one.

it isnt just toddler milk,its all sma formula milk thats increasing by £2 a tin..............exploiting the vulnerable thru necessary baby products is jut nother measure of how out of control food prices are

I think it might be spreading already. I thought it was just me, I have a 15 week old and my last baby was five years ago, I went looking to get some powder in for emergencies and mixing with babyrice etc when weaning and it was £8 - £10 a tin. That was in boots.

It made me feel old because when I stopped using powder about 4 years ago it was typically around £5 a tin.

bermudaotter - unfortunately "exploiting the vulnerable" is an old ploy of the baby milk manufacturers. It's very common in the third world...they give out samples for free which the mums use, losing their own milk supply...and then they find formula costs more than they earn

This thread is getting away from the real issue at stake here,namely sma's blatant price hiking for what looks like no reason other that blatant profiteering.

Its high time web sites like this one showed some collective action and started speaking out for the vulnerable mums in society and attacking these cynical ploys by the like of SMA.

You speak of 3rd world countries ,well thats what i see this country becoming before my very eyes.
The price of formula milk has DOUBLED in 3 years,something needs to be done about it.
How about mums net takes some initiative here and tries to organise selective boycotting ?

Would be nice if a site administrator took this on and had a look at it.
Maybe the place could start living upto it's logo then

1 - you don't need toddler milk
2 - you are naive to think that companies that make formula milk do so for any reason other than to make profit
3 - it is bad that formula has gone up so much in price, but I imagine their ingredients have gone up a lot too (since all food has increased in price in the last few years)
4 - what exactly do you expect MNers to boycott if all formula has increased in price?

Mums net can be quite a motivating force if it wanted to be and was prepared to harness it's collective power .
But I don't really see it like that ,David cameron popped on for a chat didn't he ,promised lots but all he,s done since us stick 2 fingers up at every mum ,working or not .
He realises there,s no organisation whatsoever so the site and all it's members are no threat to him at all.

The 2 replies in front of my post just about sums up the mentality of what's wrong here.
