Hi Somerset lot - MP etc. Can't remember who else is in Somerset - sorry!

You may remember on a thread (can't remember which one!) recently I mentioned that we will prob relocate to Somerset at some stage - well we now know that it will be in 2 or 3 years and not the 5 years is might have been - YAY!

DS will more than likely go to Taunton School and we are coming over in July for a week for me to get a better idea of areas etc. Although with the property market doing what it is we will not be looking to buy just yet!

What we are looking for is a holiday cottage for a week in July. We stayed in Crowcombe 2 years ago and it was lovely but we had to drive everywhere. We are looking for something on the edge of a nice village where we can walk to a pub that does food etc. Any suggestions?

I have just looked at one in Dinnington that looks nice. Any other nice villages I should check out?

Am off out just now but will check when I get back.

Thank you in advance!!!!

Oh - want something nice so money no object! Within reason!

Ooh no! Clevedon is North Somerset. Not the same thing at all

I went to school in Clevedon so it still makes me shudder going there. But it's been spruced up a lot recently so my parents tell me.

DumbledoresGirl · 29/02/2008 13:02

Some horrid crime happened there a few months ago (I forget what )

cadelaide · 29/02/2008 13:06

Another vote here for Devon.
(From Somerset!)

Buda · 29/02/2008 16:39

You can't vote for Devon cadelaide! I am going to Somerset!

poshwellies - sent DH a link to that cottage and think I will book it if he likes it. Have looked at some others but they don't seem as nice. And the major selling point is that that one seems to have a pub within walking distance! Shallow? Me? You betcha!!!

Desiderata · 29/02/2008 16:41

Oh, wanting a pub nearby is not shallow, Buda. It's very, very deep

OrmIrian · 29/02/2008 17:05

Pub within walking distance is vital. I specified it on my search criteria when I looked for ours this summer

OrmIrian · 29/02/2008 17:07

posh - just clicked on your link. Halse is pretty. Used to work just outside Wivvy for an organic gardening magazine - Halse was on my short cut.

Buda · 29/02/2008 17:16

Pub within walking distance vital so we can have dinner then with DS (6) and then give him a key to get back to cottage while we stay out boozing!

Oh yes. Somerset is lovely really, I was having a disloyal moment.

You should have seen the Quantocks when we had those frosty mornings a couple of weeks ago.

Yes.It's lovely indeed.

poshwellies · 01/03/2008 14:08

Hope you all have a lovely time Buda-that cottage looks luuurvely, the pub idea sounds like a great plan

MeImAllSmiles · 01/03/2008 17:50

poshwellies · 01/03/2008 18:49

Me too,but have you seen the house prices?

MeImAllSmiles · 01/03/2008 18:51

Don't even go there Posh! A lot cheaper just over the border where we are, lol

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 01/03/2008 18:56

Yay for Buda.

How strange that you are not a city girl, and neither am I and yet we grew up 3 miles from the city centre.

I think it is because Dublin has only just become a grown up city, in most ways "tis but a village"

Here endeth my ponderings....
