Have booked Morton of Pitmilly as per your recommendation on another thread.

Any info, top tips on where to go? Not going till August.

Ah no hoxton - went for Scotland simply since we are 'down south' in June (Cornwall) and wanted to go somewhere completely different in August. It's still in 'my favourites' though as I think it looks great!

Oh hello, I just spotted this, sorry (you'd think I'd have seen it before what with teh capitals and all). Oh I hope you have a good time- we've only been there for weekends, so mainly lounged around the place using the pool and the outdoor play place. We went to St Andrews a few times, lots of lovely beach walks and things. Let's see if we can lure martianbishop on here, she used to live in St Andrew's, and Pruni knows it well too. I'll keep thinking...

Oh thanks - I didn't realise mb and Pruni knew the area well. It's just good to get recommendations for where to go - rather than relying on touristy brochures. I've been to St Andrews before so I know it's beautiful there - I don't know anywhere else round about though.

How long a journey is it from Edinburgh - do you know?

I think it took us about an hour and a half, something like that? It would be possible to do as a day trip easily, for sure. Sorry I can't think of much lese- I know we went to the Singing Kettle shop on the way back from there but I can't honestly say I would recommend that

Tentsmuir is great, there is a barrier for paying to get, it's £1. There is a big long beach there, plus the forest, lots of walks. there is also a really good beach at St Andrews, from which you can watch the jets taking off, although if you are going int eh summer ther e may not be many! Also the beach at St Andrews is very near the Old Course.
Lots of lovely places to eat as well, the victoria cafe is good for families, but children not allowed in after 8pm. Also can recommend Zigi's, West Port and Doll's House, althought eh last three i haven't been in with children.
There is the ruins of the cathedral, a sea life centre

What is the name of the little country park on the outskirts of ST Andrews? It has been that long since I was there [sigh]

Swimming pool is good on a rainy day.

Janettas for ice creams!

Fisher and Donadsons for a fudge
doughnut. Then a long walk at Tentsmuir to walk off all the fat!

My kids used to love going round the ruined cathedral.

Pop into the Psychology department to see the hawthorn that Mary Queen of Scots is supposed to have planted.....I used to work there (in the dept, not the tree! . It is on South St behind the sihn that saus 'In principio erat Verbum', which should be MNs motto!

Boranics is great for a walk, as is the walk along the Burn which is beside it.

Fabbo place, I really miss it!

Kingsbarns itself has a nice beach as well. the area does get really busy in the summer.
Dundee isn't that far away either, it has some good shopping, and that ship - the name of which escapes me at the minute.

The ship is the Endeavor?? Very interesting, and a good museum with a huge block of iceburg in it IIRC

It is a good day out, it costs a bit to get in, but you can spend a whole day there.

Endeavour that's it. We pass it regularly, but haven't actually been on it. The Ds have with MIL, they thought it was great. They are doing up a lot of the waterfront in Dundee, trying to improve the place
