Have booked Morton of Pitmilly as per your recommendation on another thread.

Any info, top tips on where to go? Not going till August.

TIA

scottish deer centre

Lots of space to run around, lots to look at. They have a nice little shop attached too, when I was pregnant we had to drive there every week to get their cheese with pickled onions in as its delicious .

There is also a 'pick your own' farm out by East Sands in St Andrews, nice place to go for a picnic as you get a lovely view over the town. I think they have a maize maze as well in the summer. Cake is good too.

Miss St Andrews like crazy.

saltire · 15/02/2007 20:45

Yes the deer centre is good, and it's near Cupar, which has a nice park and a lovely new Lidl. hasn't got much else going for it mind you

Blandmum · 15/02/2007 20:49

You can watch bambi and then eat the burgers

There are some excellent PYO places near Cupar as well. Wonderful Raspberries

saltire · 15/02/2007 20:58

Raspberries and strawberries. DH hates taking me anywhere round here, because i always want to stop and pick some
How long were you here MB?

Blandmum · 15/02/2007 21:00

7 wonderful, very happy years. I still miss it.

We lived in Leuchars for a while and then had a house in St A's (half one of the old town houses actually)

Great place to raise a family

saltire · 15/02/2007 21:02

We have been hereabouts (I'm sure you have guessed where I am) for 4 years, love it, except the noise. DH due to be posted this year, finally got his promotion

Blandmum · 15/02/2007 21:03

Congrats on the promotion!

Yes it is quite noisy isn't it!

saltire · 15/02/2007 21:04

It's been along time coming, he has been in 21 years in march! We were all set to go back to our own house in south scotland, and he has done 1 resettlement already. We might end up in portsmouth though!

suedonim · 15/02/2007 22:09

It's Scott's ship, the Discovery which is in Dundee. The frigate Unicorn is also good to visit.

saltire · 15/02/2007 22:12

Well done sue, it is the Discovery. Why did MB and I think it was the Endeavour? Well she thought it was and I agreed with her, mind you, she could have said it was the QE2 and i would have agreed, since i've never actually been to visit.
The Unicorn is at city Quay

expatinscotland · 15/02/2007 22:14

And Anstruther has one of the best chippies in Scotland.

YUM! Never fails to please.

Just there last month.

And it's connected to a sweet shop.

saltire · 15/02/2007 22:15

Tom Hanks goes there! Unfortunately you need to queue for ages

expatinscotland · 15/02/2007 22:16

Not in the off season !

DH and his family used to holiday there every year. The wee cottage is still there.

suedonim · 15/02/2007 22:21

Endeavour was Scott's first ship. I forget why he took Discovery on his next adventure. Did Endeavour get devoured by ice? Or maybe it was just busy elsewhere!

saltire · 15/02/2007 22:23

We were on the right track then! Why is it in Dundee though? Maybe they felt sorry the place so gave them a tourist attraction

expatinscotland · 15/02/2007 22:23

Scumdee.

saltire · 15/02/2007 22:25

Aye you're right there expat. The place is minging -in my opinion anyway

expatinscotland · 15/02/2007 22:27

DH's father is a Fifer. He can slag Dundee to no end. We went to visit a friend. He kept telling us.

Sure enough, whilst our car was parked in the drive at our friend's house, someone panned both wing mirrors.

FIL never forgot that! 'Ye'll no' be going back there now ye ken wot they're like in that place.'

saltire · 15/02/2007 22:32

It would be said more like this
"Ye'llnobegoingbacktherenowyekenwotthey'relikeinthatplace". They talk really fast, and are sometimes incomprehensible (big word for this time of night).
Come and visit me expat, we're posh where i live!

expatinscotland · 15/02/2007 22:35

Yes, salty! I had to make it semi-understandable for the 'Anglish', ken?

saltire · 15/02/2007 22:37

How no? Ken

expatinscotland · 15/02/2007 22:37

That must be St. Andrew's then, salty .

You'll see plenty of Scots there, aye, on the other side of the counter, 'What can I get you to drink there?', 'That'll be £5.50', driving the council bin lorry, etc.

suedonim · 15/02/2007 22:38

I think Discovery was built in Dundee, as a whaling ship. Scott had gone down a bit in the govt's estimation by the time he made that expedition so rather than give him an all-singing-all-dancing ship he had to make do with some old whaler.

Discovery used to be at St Katherine's Dock in London, which is where I first saw it. Then in the 1980's Dundee staged a bit of a coup by quietly snitching Discovery from under the noses of Londoners. There was a bit of a to-do at the time because after neglecting it for so long London suddently decided they didn't want it really. But it was too late!

Dundee is so different now to when I first went there in 1983, unrecognisable, tbh. But the people haven't changed. I got stuck in a lift there once.

suedonim · 15/02/2007 22:40

did want it really

suedonim · 15/02/2007 22:40
