Jamie Bulger, I was about a year older than the boys who killed him and remember everyone in my class at school being horrified about it

He was called James Bulger. I read somewhere once that his family never called him Jamie always James and I think the least we can do is use his name correctly.

This is the first crime that sticks in my mind as well as I came home to my DM crying while watching the news so I think it was the first time I realized things in the news were actually real.

The murder of Caroline Hogg. She was only 5 and I was the same age. I remember the local library had a picture of her on the door asking anyone with information to come forward. I’ve never forgotten her.

Jeremy Bamber..,he’s so guilty despite his protests.

I read 10 Rillington Place by Ludovic Kennedy when I was about 13. It was the miscarriage of justice and the execution of Timothy Evans that affected me! I ended up studying law and then Criminology & Criminal justice and so it had a strong impact on my life choices!

Brady & Hindley.

Peter Sutcliffe, I think.

Lesley Whittle . I was about 10 and it haunted me. She was 18.

Jack the Ripper. DM read me a bedtime story about him when I was probably about 7 years old.

I knew it was a true story but didn’t grasp it was from the past. I was terrified for years.

The Hillsborough disaster, always considered it a 'crime'.
How anyone still reads tabloids since this event has never made sense to me.

Also, James Bulger. i still can't allow myself to even consider that one, too upsetting.

April Fabb, in Norfolk. She disappeared in 1969 aged 13 and was never found.
My parents used to talk about it a lot.

Probably Carl Bridgewater, although Peter Sutcliffe murders were not long afterwards.

Julie Perigo - a lady brutally murdered in my street when I was 8. The police had incident porta cabins on the path ear my house for weeks. They interviewed my brother about it as he'd seen someone near her house.

They've never found her killer.

I walked past her house every night on my way home from school, and eas also interviewed by the police, along with my friend.

The Yorkshire Ripper, our primary school teacher told us about him during story time. No wonder I was an anxious child 🙄
