Children chalking over our land

Charliec12 · 22/07/2024 22:12

Hi all, am I over reacting? My neighbours brought their children some chalks at the weekend. The children are chalking everywhere with them including on my driveway which we half share with them. My OH said to one of the children tonight that the area looked a mess. Said child started crying and then the Mum came out and was confrontational and annoyed with me that I don’t agree with it looking nice in the area. I also have 2 young children and I get they want to have fun.

Yes because we take great pride in our area and would not do that to others without asking them. You sound awful yourself to even make a comment that I am awful for taking pride in my area.

He apologised to the child he obviously felt he was in the wrong. He should have approached their mother instead of picking on little children.

Of course yes I am that person 🙄🙄🙄

The claws are out today, @Charliec12
On all forums it seems!
It must be the thought of school holidays!

A petty what?

Here it is. All sorted. Dad clearly spoke to his children about it. Probably showed them where they can draw. Yet OP is not going to let it go it seems.

Why come to that conclusion?

A petty what?

They don't quite have the balls to spell it out in case they get deleted!

FlyingRoman · 23/07/2024 12:06

The pair of you sound absolutely joyless.

Life is short, childhood is even shorter. If my neighbours children started chalking on my drive the most likely outcome is that I’d go out and join them, pretend I’m 7 years old again…until I tried to stand back up and my knees would remind me that I’m not!! Unclench a bit, you’ll find life more enjoyable xx

Charliec12 · 23/07/2024 12:06

Nanny0gg · 23/07/2024 08:41

Because it's CHALK!

Children have done that since time immemorial!

Agreed but it is also my private land :)

Uricon2 · 23/07/2024 12:08

What do you mean by " pride in your area"? Do you think house prices will plummet because of a few chalk drawings? Is this a slippery slope to burned out cars and mass looting?

There's also been the "they don't own it they're renting" jibe about people also paying money to live there.

You are not coming over at all well OP.

Charliec12 · 23/07/2024 12:10

Ghost2 · 23/07/2024 08:53

Making a child cry because they got chalk on a driveway that according to you is half theirs anyway is as @Muffin101 said, nasty and being a prick.

I hope you and your OH aren't as miserable and mean to your own children.

I totally disagree there is a way to word things and it is worrying that you think abusive language is ok.

GoldDuster · 23/07/2024 12:10

"My Land"? Hilarious. You share a drive. Get the hosepipe out if it's that critical, or you could wait an hour until it rains again.

Thoughts and prayers to your DC.

For god sake don’t say the actual word, she will tell you off!

FalderalderaldoSittingintheWater · 23/07/2024 12:12

What is the matter with everyone? The brats drew on private property.
The medium used is neither here nor there, the principle of trespass and defacing stands.

A parent from our local school used to write encouraging, cheerful chalk messages for the children to read as they returned to school after the long summer holiday. It was all the way up our road and in neighbouring roads and it was really sweet.

Lasted a couple of rain showers and then was gone.

I'm guess it's not the chalking as such but the encroachment on your driveway. Sounds like that's sorted now so I would move on and not get het up about if it happens again.

I would be interested to know what sort of notes they wrote as we live very close to an infant and junior school and would love to do this.

You are a miserable woman.

By the way, it’s could’ve or could have and NOT could of.
I don’t pick on people’s grammar, but on this occasion, I will.

Could is a modal verb.
Could have + past participle (or could’ve) means that something was possible in the past, or you had the ability to do something in the past, but that you didn't do it.

Could have a verb phrase.
Your version of could of is a verb + preposition, is not part of a modal verb phrase and has no meaning, and grammatically incorrect!

Learn something new today instead of moaning about some chalk.

Edited

And you are not a nice person by pulling someone up on that. Learn to be respectful and kind maybe today? Pointless comment.

They need those thoughts and prayers. I've seen OPs posting history 😱Bit of chalk is least of her problems

shootingstar1 · 23/07/2024 12:18

I really wish this is all I had to get worked up about in life ....

RuthW · 23/07/2024 12:19

Yes you are over reacting. I take it you don't have children.

Not as pointless as your thread. You missed the irony.

So you’re offended by swearing as well as chalk. Wow you must be fun at parties.

Yes why be abusive to people. No need for that. Read the post properly I am not offended by chalk I am offended that my property has been chalked on. There is a difference. Chalk on their own area.

@Kinshipug Exactly. If I lived next door to the OP I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near her.

andfinallyhereweare · 23/07/2024 12:23

@Charliec12

did you mean to say your children don’t draw on peoples private areas! Well I should hope not op!😂😂😂 I’m chuckling away to myself now and will probably get told off from the op with a “did you need to say that? Did you need to lower the tone?” 😂😂

sprigatito · 23/07/2024 12:25

If I lived next door to you I would invest in a couple of Rottweilers and a piss-stained mattress. You and your DH sound insufferable.

You take 'great pride' in half a driveway?

I did yes but I get how that reads 😂 and no your comment is not swearing or abusive so all good 😁
