Lost toy cat, heartbroken DD can anyone help?

Sadly DD's treasured toy catty took it upon herself, as cats sometimes do, to take off and fend for herself in the big bad world. Perhaps she took fright at the dramatic political headwinds and is now safely ensconced in a Norwegian passiv-haus, companion no doubt to a new family.

A couple of months have passed and DD (5) is still heartbroken. We find her staring sadly at pictures of cats and then bravely trying to carry on with the day Sad Dowman Imports, the company who allegedly supplied and sourced Catty, no longer stock her - they have also stopped answering their phone.

DD's latest idea is that she will tell Father Christmas and that he will bring catty back because he is magic. She has somewhat comforted herself with the idea that she won't have to be parted from catty for more than a few months. So we are faced with finding the cat or giving her the worst Christmas ever when she finds that Santa isn't magic and that she has still lost her cat.

Please help us dear mumsnetters. We are desperate. Does anyone have a toy shop or toy basket with one of these?

Note Catty's main features - particularly her pale pink nose and demented expression. In case anyone is tempted to post links to other similar cats we have tried others. The fact is, they are not floppy enough and their arms do not go in circles when you take them to their cat swimming lessons.

Hi moonbells I've been meaning to update. The calico cat arrived and she is beautiful (I think I already posted about her arrival). We haven't shown her to DD as we are still thinking about whether to send her to hospital or not.

I looked into sharpie/ dye but apparently this doesn't stick to polyester. I think she's polyester Confused

Currently we are thinking of giving calico cat to DD to see if she gets adopted. The other calico cat I ordered on eBay turned out to be a small one! So they could be a mum and kitten which I think she would like. We need to decide whether to do this at Christmas with a story about how catty went off and came back looking different, or whether to tell her the truth and see if she likes them.

The dog with the similar body arrived but he/ she is smaller so can't be used to stick a catty head on!

In the meantime she has taken to sleeping with my old childhood bear, which is quite sweet. He really isn't replaceable! Pretty sure he'd have been from Woolworths c.1982.

DS tatctfully wrote a sign to remind himself not to play the cat games so they've been playing with babies and monkeys instead. It's very sad but sweet that they are learning to adapt and recover from the loss of catty Sad

There’s one here if there are any Dutch mumsnetters who could get it
At least I think it’s in Dutch!

moonbells · 11/09/2019 09:22

Go Ailuros! Well spotted Youve

moonbells · 11/09/2019 09:25

Actually there's some German ones too! Never thought to search in different languages...

Crockof · 11/09/2019 09:31

Whilst I am saddened about your daughter's feelings regarding the loss of catty (and too have been looking for far too long for replacement) I am more than slightly horrified at the Frankenstein approach to replacement.

Miniloso · 11/09/2019 09:31

Have you contacted Dowman direct OP? I would give it a go.

Ailuros · 11/09/2019 14:37

OMG wow wow wow!! What does In Winklemand mean? How can I buy one? I have a Dutch student but I think asking her to buy me a soft toy might breach professional boundaries even in this extremely critical situation...

YouveCatToBeKittenMe are you an actual cat fairy Godmother? Can you or moonbells or anyone give me the link to the German one? I have some German friends who may be able to help. Thank you so much everyone

Maybe we need a Dutch Mumsnetter to try, it may only work in the Netherlands

Ailuros · 13/09/2019 21:20

That’s a point. I assumed it just doesn’t work.

argh I lost the page and I can't find what I searched for again!

Can you have a look for Hermann-teddy cats (katze) though - I can't help looking at the calico and thinking it's identical to Noms, so though Dowman may have gone under, perhaps there's another EU firm that is importing them?

I'll keep looking... cos it's got to the point where if I see one I'm going to order it so nobody else gets it and then pm you...

moonbells · 15/09/2019 21:38

... So I can send it on, obvs!

Ailuros · 16/09/2019 14:46

moonbells thank you 💜

The one does look like her! I’d seen it but thought it was the keel one. Now I look closer I think it isn’t. I will order one if I can...

The back legs face forward rather than back though. :-(

Ailuros · 21/09/2019 21:47

I haven’t bought the Hermann one, it’s too small, though v similar. Still think the best bet is the calico one.

So sorry to hear about the lost Catty. My daughter lost her favourite teddy once and like your little girl she really missed it. Eventually I managed to find her one online after several attempts and previously giving up so there is hope that you will come across one in the future. Fingers crossed something comes up in time for Christmas. I like previous posters idea about getting a similar looking smaller one and saying it’s a kitten.
