Lost toy cat, heartbroken DD can anyone help?

Sadly DD's treasured toy catty took it upon herself, as cats sometimes do, to take off and fend for herself in the big bad world. Perhaps she took fright at the dramatic political headwinds and is now safely ensconced in a Norwegian passiv-haus, companion no doubt to a new family.

A couple of months have passed and DD (5) is still heartbroken. We find her staring sadly at pictures of cats and then bravely trying to carry on with the day Sad Dowman Imports, the company who allegedly supplied and sourced Catty, no longer stock her - they have also stopped answering their phone.

DD's latest idea is that she will tell Father Christmas and that he will bring catty back because he is magic. She has somewhat comforted herself with the idea that she won't have to be parted from catty for more than a few months. So we are faced with finding the cat or giving her the worst Christmas ever when she finds that Santa isn't magic and that she has still lost her cat.

Please help us dear mumsnetters. We are desperate. Does anyone have a toy shop or toy basket with one of these?

Note Catty's main features - particularly her pale pink nose and demented expression. In case anyone is tempted to post links to other similar cats we have tried others. The fact is, they are not floppy enough and their arms do not go in circles when you take them to their cat swimming lessons.

P_s long time mumsnetter have namechanged!

ziggyb I’ve just checked the sleeping bags and have found a number of lost things but no catty. DD is happy to be reunited with her doll sling though so thanks for that!

StockTakeFucks we have both the keel and the aurora ones and they do get played with but there’s no hope DD would consider them to be a replacement for catty. The keel one was the first one we tried but she just cried herself to sleep with it and then gave it to her brother Sad

In other news the calico cat has arrived but has not been unpacked. We are going to have a look at her and see if we think she can be transformed into catty...

I phoned Alnwick castle and they were super lovely and had lined up every cat they had before phoning me back! They did everything they could to help but they don’t have a catty...

I’m just picturing the staff at Alnwick Castle checking for swimming arms on various cats.🐱

I’m definitely holding out hope on Calico’s transformation.

This reminds me of when I was little and read 'twinkle' magazine. One of the stories in their was a little girl who had a stuffed toy hospital and fixed up herself teddies!!

Hope you find catty ASAP!!

monstermissy · 29/08/2019 21:18

Urgh so many errors there 🤦🏼‍♀️

Ailuros · 29/08/2019 21:28

SavoyCabbage hahaha Grin

monstermissy I’m sure there is such a thing as a teddy bear hospital, I must see if I can find one. Major fur grafts should not be attempted by an amateur like me...

I bought something very similar in Wilkinson’s a few months ago.

Ailuros · 29/08/2019 21:34

Just did a search! There are loads of bear hospitals she could go to! Does anyone have any recommendations/ experience of these? I’m sure any of them would be better than the risks of me wielding haberdashery scissors around the poor cat’s seams

PancakeAndKeith Wilkos! DH and I always go there for a date when when staying at the in laws. There’s no romance like a stroll in the cleaning products aisle. Do you have a photo of the Wilko cat?

Gosh op sympathies I had a mammoth hunt getting a replacement but not the same black and white toy cat for my boy - I finally found one on eBay in America and paid £££ for him but it was worth it.

labyrinth · 29/08/2019 21:47

Is it a Mary Meyers flip flop cat? If so theres one on ebay from America. Maybe worth a check OP?

Lwmommy · 29/08/2019 21:53

There's this which is not exact but same company and design just to go on a seat belt.

timeforawine · 29/08/2019 22:08

Hope you find catty OP. My husband is loving the cat cricket Grin

dwa11 · 29/08/2019 22:08

How about using the body and head of this one, cutting down ears into cat shape and using some of the face of the calico one? Then run it through a fair few washing machines cycles to make it look 'loved' x

Ailuros · 29/08/2019 22:33

dwa11 which one is that dog? It does look like a similar body and that could indeed be a plan.

fulfulina Fraid not but thanks for looking Flowers

Name change from dwa11

ASIN is B00IYSMXEG in amazon.
Just make sure its washed and worn. Good luck, I really feel for you and your little girl x

Nellbo1 · 29/08/2019 22:49

It's a Dowman toy so hopefully it's the same body. Take the white bit from the tail too

Nellbo1 · 29/08/2019 22:50

Plus, if Catty has been on an adventure then she's bound to look slightly different 😉

PancakeAndKeith · 29/08/2019 22:54

Do you have a photo of the Wilko cat?

Sadly not. It was for school, I’m a teacher, and he is still there.

PancakeAndKeith · 29/08/2019 22:56

I’ve just remembered. They Wilko’s one is a TY Beany Baby.

PancakeAndKeith · 29/08/2019 22:59

This is him. Not quite as I remember. I don’t think the arms would be quite right for swimming.

Hecateh · 29/08/2019 23:01

get the nearest compromise, then tell your dd that catty is out there but scared of coming home because she has had an accident, things have changed about her so she is not coming home because she doesn't want to be rejected.

don't give in easily

Hello1231 · 29/08/2019 23:05

The eBay tortoiseshell one has sold by the look of it, I think that could have at a push been acceptable; could have at least gone swimming.
