Lost toy cat, heartbroken DD can anyone help?

Sadly DD's treasured toy catty took it upon herself, as cats sometimes do, to take off and fend for herself in the big bad world. Perhaps she took fright at the dramatic political headwinds and is now safely ensconced in a Norwegian passiv-haus, companion no doubt to a new family.

A couple of months have passed and DD (5) is still heartbroken. We find her staring sadly at pictures of cats and then bravely trying to carry on with the day Sad Dowman Imports, the company who allegedly supplied and sourced Catty, no longer stock her - they have also stopped answering their phone.

DD's latest idea is that she will tell Father Christmas and that he will bring catty back because he is magic. She has somewhat comforted herself with the idea that she won't have to be parted from catty for more than a few months. So we are faced with finding the cat or giving her the worst Christmas ever when she finds that Santa isn't magic and that she has still lost her cat.

Please help us dear mumsnetters. We are desperate. Does anyone have a toy shop or toy basket with one of these?

Note Catty's main features - particularly her pale pink nose and demented expression. In case anyone is tempted to post links to other similar cats we have tried others. The fact is, they are not floppy enough and their arms do not go in circles when you take them to their cat swimming lessons.

Hey Op, do you know where it came from in the first place? My son (now 9) had something very much like Catty bought from Matalan about 6 years ago (weirdly he named it Catty Catty Roo Roo!) and I'm sure it's still around somewhere.
I'll have a look tomorrow. He'd be happy to send it on if it's the right one.

The cat cricket team? I’ve found another household where teddy cricket/ football is a thing! My three now adult sons had games leagues etc that went on for days with their soft toys in different teams, all named
A few years ago I found a stray cat in the attic which had escaped the storage box of retired toys.
“Ah it’s tiger face, he was a good midfielder” reminisces son aged 36
Hope you find catty before next years season starts. The power of mumsnet
I’ll keep looking for you . ( once had to artificially age a replacement for snoopy left on a bus)

legarmpits that is so kind! If you could send pics that would be much appreciated. Catty was bought 6 years ago but from from Amazon not Matalan for DS who is now 7. She was adopted by DD as her favourite toy when DD was about 1.

Knittingnanny yes cat cricket perfectly blends DD's love of cats with DS's love of cricket! Nice to know there are other teams they could play Smile

I second "Jessie Cat" from Sing and Sign.

Button green eyes and pink button nose. She's about the same size as a build a bear character though. Is that too big? (I googled for a picture) her arms are certainly good for swimming lessons!

buy her here

Oh my @Ailuros you can see how loved Catty is.

Where did she go AWOL?

moonbells · 28/08/2019 23:34

Morning all. Moonbells the calico one does have the same spirit. DH has ordered one in case she meets with approval. I suspect she'll end up somewhere down the batting order or perhaps I will get someone to attempt major surgery on her (though it seems a controversial way to treat a healthy new cat) but at least I can be confident she will swim well.

ZiggyB thank you we also thought that one looked similar and bought it a while ago.

The Jess one looks lovely and cuddly but also too unlike the original I'm afraid.

moonbells · 29/08/2019 08:32

Sharpie or other dye?

I'm way too invested now. Our other (real) cat is a tux so if you find one I'll be ordering too!

The label has a postcode on the back - just north of Cambridge. Assume this is the company address, but I'd be tempted to ID gift shops or small indie toy shops in the area and phone around. Ones that may have older stock.

moonbells · 29/08/2019 08:49

The other solution is to buy a new calico one and literally carefully take it to bits to get the pattern off... I've made stuffed toys for years so that wouldn't be hard.

Reminds me. I really need to put Noms' whiskers back. They're currently in the car as they came out on holiday...

Ailuros · 29/08/2019 09:26

spacedinosaur she'd have been lost in the Eltham area (London SE9). We can't pinpoint exactly where as we didn't realise immediately. Possibly in Oxleas woods. One of my last memories of her is of DD taking her through long grass on a lead and me telling her not to get her too filthy, however the lead and collar turned up at home subsequently and catty didn't Sad

OP posts:
Ailuros · 29/08/2019 09:29

moonbells yes that's what I was wondering about the calico one! I wouldn't have the skills but if you think it's possible I could surely find someone to do it?

knittingnanny the morning’s cricket is in full swing! The umpire is a well meaning but incompetent monkey wearing a jumper that was once a Christmas tree decoration. The kittens are batting, one of them wearing the paper helmet DD spent way too much time making after bedtime last night

Have you checked in the bottom of sleeping bags? Other not often used bedding? I believe from a post last week that’s where soft toys are often found. Good luck OP
I’ll keep an eye out on my toy shop/charity shop travels!

Is this like catty but in the wrong colour?

Keel toys have a very similar one and there's an aurora mini flopsies that's nearly identical and looks like it has swimming arms.

None of them seem to have blue eyes though.
