Noises. Loft hatch opening and closing on its own….

So we have lived here 6 years. It’s a detached house. Things have been freaky on and off, shadows seen, noises heard, an awful feeling that someone is right there! But it all stopped and everything was fine until a few weeks ago, there is my partner, me, our dog, our other dog passed away sadly last year, and my children. These noises started up again, I recently found out also I’m pregnant and it seams to be since then how ever I’m sure my partner just thinks I’m going crazy but then he heard the noises too. So they are like taps on the walls, bangs, usually upstairs and we have heard them when we are upstairs. So a week ago we heard a loud noise and went upstairs and the loft hatch had opened and was only half covering the hole, it’s only a piece of wood that would need pushed up and moved aside to gain access to the loft, so we left it as it’s high and nobody can reach, we live in a detached house so the idea of a Neighbour walking through the lofts is impossible. Today I’m home alone and hear noises again and the loft hatch has moved back over and closed on its own!

I’m really quite freaked out. Iv also heard footsteps just now as I’m typing this. My dog is sitting right beside me as he always is he never leaves my side so it’s not him and the noises are more apparent when the kids are at school and it’s either just me or me and my partner and we both hear them together.

What could be going on? Is the house about to fall down? Could a ghost be in the house or is that a crazy thought? And why could the loft hatch be opening and closing on its own ?

A stupid thought crossed my mind of someone sneaking into my house, hiding in the loft and coming down and eating our food while we are out. But that’s just insane lol. I’m really quite freaked out by it all!

@shrunkenhead

Has ANYONE been up yet??????
.... more importantly, have they come back down again?

I am trying not to remember Shallow Grave Grin - I can't remember which one of them was in the loft but it didn't end well!

@custardbear

Did the electrician leave? It could be him!!
😂

If you are in the UK then this is not a thing, but we had raccoons in our attic space. They were unbelievably noisy and I am pretty sure they could move a hatch cover.

But we are in Canada.

Don't read Mo Hayder's book The Treatment whatever you do.

Jesus Christ can someone please tell me wtf was in that loft 😟😟😟😟😟😟

In DP’s holiday home in France they had pine or some other marten (stone?) living in the attic. I think they left them.

Please confirm you haven’t been eaten by the ghost in the loft!

OrlandointheWilderness · 11/04/2022 21:48

Ohhhh I need to know now!!

Hottoffeesauce · 27/01/2023 02:06

Oooh, just found this - update please! Smile

Beeinalily · 13/03/2023 10:41

And she was never seen again... (or heard from, at least! ) 👻

Schmutter · 13/03/2023 10:49

Well it’s not a ghost is it? That is completely daft, what with them being imaginary and all.

So, if your loft hatch is moving and there is no possible cause (ie vermin/wind) - someone is moving it. I hope you’ve gone up and had a look by now. This would’ve been the first thing to do, tbh.

It's a loose tile. How would someone get up there ? If you need ladders.. it does not make sense

Throwncrumbs · 13/03/2023 11:06

Sorry, I will be down in a minute …..

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 13/03/2023 11:33

DD had her loft hatch come crashing down on her landing, heaven knows how as it would have needed to turn diagonally off to get through the hole!
She decided that as it was very windy then somehow the wind had lifted and turned it - her roof is good and well insulated so???

Wingingit15 · 13/03/2023 14:29

Just been reminded of this post and it puts me off going I. Loft!
