Do we all have a doppelgänger….

WTAF. A friend sent me a link today which showed an advertisement with a picture of my son. Only thing is….it’s not my son! I have looked at the photo for ages and can’t understand it. Like my son, the person in the photo has no earlobes and also a slight abnormality on the rim of his ear.

I keep going back to look at the photo, trying to find something different in the photo, to distinguish the person from my son, but I can’t! The person even has the same haircut as my son, which makes it even weirder! Has anyone else ever come across something like this?

I have come to realise I have a doppelgänger in France. French tourists in say Spain or Greece start to stare and nudge each other sometimes. Enough I’ve created fantasy that she’s a well regarded actress or amazing role model of some sort. Wouldn’t it be awful if it was someone loathed for some reason !?

It'd be really interesting to see if some of these local doppelgängers were in any way related to each other as I met another school mum who was very like me. Not identical but enough for a number of people to assume we were sisters and we even joked about it ourselves. Fast forward a couple of years and I was at mass with my dad. When they said the name of the man the mass was being offered for my dad whispered to me "oh he was my cousin he lived in the next estate, that's his family there". Who was sitting there as the daughter of this man but the mum from school! We are second cousins! We waited for her outside afterwards and my dad introduced himself as he hadn't seen her since she was very young. Small world.

I have (at least) two doppelgängers, one in Birmingham seen by a colleague, who was adamant that I had looked very unhappy on the bus that morning, except I drove to work, and one in Glasgow, seen by my DB and SIL ( who failed to get a picture). I’ve also found a doppelgänger of their son modelling clothes for M&S, they accused my of photoshop but I hadn’t!

I taught in a northern city, had a pupil called L. Nice girl. I moved to a new school in a new city, had a pupil called L. Nice girl. Identical but one year younger. I always suspected their dad might be the same bloke, but maybe not.

There was a girl at college who looked like me and friends used to confuse us sometimes. Family members have also seen someone they could have sworn was me, but wasn't - I suspect it was the same woman!

When I was younger (23 or 24 or so) I started a new job and had been there a few weeks when I had someone (a man) in my new office come up to me and gave me a spiel of why I hadn't spoken to him in the street and then he realised it wasn't me but looked like me.

He was adamant this woman looked exactly the same as me (dark blonde light highlights wavy hair, slim) even down to similar clothes but it wasn't me. We concluded it must be my doppelganger.

I was curious to see her locally but never did as left after 3 months.

@MrsAliceRichards - in my case - quite local - unless my DF had fathered another child and they'd grown up in the area then unlikely. All his family were from West London though he lived with DM in SW London before moving to SE London suburbs so potentially he could've had a daughter before he met my DM.

It's funny in my family though - the boys (3 sons from 3 different marriages) all look or have very similar mannerisms to their dad - not been brought up together either, most spooky. Unsure if they all look like grandad (dad's dad) as didn't know him well and my dad died years ago. The girls - there's a sort of likeness (but Mediterranean stepmum) but nothing like this.

Yes! Friends daughter in a magazine article (about real people)
Literally not one difference. Her daughter even thought it was a picture of herself. Everything down to the thickness and texture of her hair. Really uncanny

This one sounds dodgey- years ago a boyfriend i was seeing showed me a porn magazine where a woman who looked identical to me was posing with her top off (readers wives section). It wasn't me but boyfriend wasn't convinced 🤣. She even had a similar wicker chair to the one I had. Same hair, same nose, same boobs but definitely not me!

I found a photo on ancestry of my dad. Except it wasn't my dad, but the woman in America that had posted it was a dna match, but it was 4 or 5 generations back - in the late 1800's. Everyone I showed thought it was him. The likeness is more than uncanny, its exact.

And, everywhere we go, people come up and talk to my dad as if they know him. He must have more than one double! And there's a very famous actor who looks like him too.

When I was a teenager on holiday in Florida the owner of a shop I was in got all excited and told me that I looked exactly like her niece(?) who lived in another state and if I visited again the following year she'd be there. This was in the mid 90s so no phone pics etc, I was curious to see her but we never went back.

5 or 6 years ago I saw an ex-gf going up the escalator at a tube station. I was in a second up escalator, so got a very clear look. Problem is, my ex had been dead for a couple of years...

here's another one of these projects.

I don't think anybody looks like me though, I'd be fascinated to have a doppleganger but my face isn't as regular as these people who find their double.

I must have one in this region somewhere because I regularly get people I don’t stopping me to say hello to her - and they seem confused when I tell them I’m not her. I can only imagine it’s a distant cousin or something as both my grandparents came from very large families a couple of regions up - I’d love to meet her to see what she looks like.

I find it amazing how there are billions of people on this planet and with the exception of identical twins it's rare to see two faces that look the same.
I was at a party about 5 years ago when this guy said I looked exactly like the actress who played the first Dr Who's assistant. He showed me a picture on Google and it was very unsettling as we really could have been twins.

This will be outing for me to anyone who knows me and my family but my dad has one.

The best thing about it is they both worked at the same job. When my family moved, they unknowingly moved onto the same street as this other man.
Sometimes this man's wife would say something to my dad meant for her husband, and my dad would pass the message on and vice versa.

I shit myself a few times as a teen thinking my dad had sighted me somewhere I shouldn't have been, until I remembered where my dad was and that it was likely the other version of him and he wasnt familiar with me. Sometimes I never knew and just had to pray that it wasn't my dad.

My dad and the actor Robert Hardy were incredibly alike. People used to ask my dad for his autograph. DH and I have been asked a number of times why we have a photo of Robert Hardy in our sitting room. They were not related at all.

My grandad's cousin's daughter died in the 60's. When Grandad's cousin's wife (mother of the lady that died in the 60's) died, I went to her funeral. Her daughter's husband was shocked when he saw me because apparently, I am the spitting image of his dead wife - mannerisms etc. I've since seen a photo of her and there is a definite likeness.
the really weird thing is my grandad's cousin was illegitimate so there is no genetic connection at all.

This case of dopplegangers even with the same first and surname is why we have finger print tests.
