Time for another spooky stories thread?

Hotpatootietimewarp · 26/09/2015 13:51

I know how much I enjoyed reading previous scary story threads so thought I'd start another and start with my own.

Now I always thought I had imagined this but after meeting up with my sister last week and getting on to this found out she remembers this too.

We both had a friend in the village who lived in a long house with an old barn out back, looked fairly normal had a ladder in the middle which took you up to the top level and the roof had a roof light window in it. Anyway this friend told us it was haunted and we thought she was having us on until she knocked on the door and an almighty bang answered, this kept happening. Then once it had stopped stuff started flying out of the roof window! Old sacks and old stove kettles etc! We were so scared but went in and no one was in there just totally empty. We then went in the house and said to friends mum and she said it must have been her dad but her dad was in the living room!

Needless to say I've never forgotten this and my sister obviously hasn't either.

So now I've started anyone else want to add any??

Yes I think that can happen but not in all cases.

99percentchocolate · 30/09/2015 18:03

Looking at the number of stories I have contributed to this thread (and it really isn't anywhere close to all of them), I am starting to think I do dustarr!

Hotpatootietimewarp · 30/09/2015 18:09

Sounds terrifying its my thanks for sharing that.

So glad to see the thread still going! I honestly didn't think it would go this far!

Fakebook, your DH's stories are amazing. In the university department where I work, we have lots of Middle Eastern and North African students and the stories some have told me about djinns and curses are so scary, mostly things about djinns sent by witches to suck the life out of people.

StillFrankie · 30/09/2015 18:11

ok Im seriously freaked out right now!

Just got in from hanging out washing. came back in to put another load in machine. Except the remaining clothes were already in the machine and machine was switched on!

No one else in house. I called out for DH and DM in case she had popped by. Nope. No one.

Front door was unlocked (always is except at night). Neighbours nice but not that nice! Plus dog would have barked if someone came in.

f*ck Shock

dustarr73 · 30/09/2015 18:13

Yes 99percentchocolate i think i am the same.Must be the perfumeGrin

FattyNinjaOwl · 30/09/2015 18:15

I think some people are more receptive to spirits/ghosts whatever, as well. I know I am

Perhaps that is why they are drawn to people? They can sense the more receptive people?

Hotpatootietimewarp · 30/09/2015 18:24

stillfrankie a ghost that helps with the laundry??? I'll have me one of them Grin

OP posts:
99percentchocolate · 30/09/2015 18:36

I've certainly heard that they are more drawn to people who are "open" to the spirit world, thus making them more receptive.
I remember ghosts being a part of my life since I was tiny - maybe that helps? (I was 3/4 the first time I encountered a ghost) because I've always felt they exist it's easier for me to notice things than people who don't believe? (Rambles!)

Of all the woo things I've experienced though, I've never had a ghost that helped with the housework! Grin

dustarr73 · 30/09/2015 18:44

Yes as i said upthread i seen people from the age of 3/4.They were not in the house though just outside on the green.Very unnerving especially when people dont believe you.

FattyNinjaOwl · 30/09/2015 18:46

I've seen things as long as I can remember too.

Hotpatootietimewarp · 30/09/2015 18:46

Yes I can see why it would be when no one believes you

FattyNinjaOwl · 30/09/2015 18:50

I do want one that helps with housework thiugh!
I suppose I technically do, just not my housework...

I have a ghost (well 2) in my house.
One is a woman who "Hoovers" the bedrooms at 2 am every Friday night/Saturday morning. I've never seen her, but hear her and I just know its a woman if that makes sense.

The other is a baby that cries. My brother was staying with me for a while and he thought it was my DS crying. Until he went up to check and realised my DS was fast asleep but he could still hear crying.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 30/09/2015 18:54

My auntie is a bit woo (seeing dead relatives in her living room, mostly) and she went through a couple of months after my uncle died where she was at an incredibly low ebb, really physically, mentally, and emotionally ill.
She kept having a recurring dream where she was getting on an airplane and she didn't want to go on the flight but the stewardess was very very insistent that she had to fly with them. She looked round the cabin and it was full of her friends and family that had died and she just KNEW she had to get off the flight as she'd be going somewhere she'd not be coming back from.

She ended up in hospital a couple of times as she was that poorly, and she's convinced she'd have died in her sleep if she'd gone on the flight.

lizzydrippingsghost · 30/09/2015 19:00

fattyninjaowl dont the neighbours complain about the hoover at 2 in the morningGrin

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 30/09/2015 19:00

We've also lived in 3 haunted houses and my mum's convinced it followed us (ME) as I was growing up.

We've had:
the sounds of things falling down the stairs very very slowly but nothing there,
I've seen a man walk from one side of the room to the other whilst being very wide awake,
my toys used to move position,
you could hear footsteps up the stairs,
in one house you could hear a radio being played in an empty room, and a CB radio in the other (it used to be a taxi rank),
I used to talk to an old lady in the front room (my mum told me to not talk to her for too long as she was sure she needed a rest then ran out the room!)
I heard someone walk round my bedroom whilst I was in bed, they leaned over me, and starting whispering and giggling in my ear
I dreamt my bedroom was different and when I told my mum, she blanched as I'd described the curtains/carpet that were there before we moved in and she'd gone to view the place

I've more of these. I'm scared to death of this kind of thing now though.

PolShelby · 30/09/2015 19:37

My parents live in the countryside on a quiet road with no streetlights and one night my DF was walking the dog after he'd got home from a late night at work (about 4am). That night he got to the end of their road and suddenly saw a lady on a bike approaching him. The lady on the bike cycled towards him, waved at him and then disappeared into a hedge. He said our dog jumped about a foot into the air, turned around and dragged him back home! He said at first he had thought it was just someone out for a bike ride, before he quickly realised that would be weird at 4am on a Sunday morning and the lady was riding a very old fashioned bike - Victorian he seems to think! He woke DM up to tell her when he got in and she said he looked frightened to death. He is completely non-woo usually so I totally believe him.

Also my little sister was about 2 years old and was sat at the living room window one day when DM saw her waving at someone. DM asked 'who are you waving at?' and DSis just said 'the lady'. DM looked out of the window and no one was there.

Kids seeing things freaks me out the most, especially as I now have my own DD!

FattyNinjaOwl · 30/09/2015 19:43

Lizzy I don't think they hear it. Grin or if they do they don't complain. If they do hear it they must know what it is as I've only been here 6 years, they have been in their house over 20. And im pretty sure she (ghost) was always here and didn't come with me IYSWIM.

Gunpowder · 30/09/2015 19:50

Fatty I think you should ask the neighbours if they know anything!

FattyNinjaOwl · 30/09/2015 19:52

I will when I next bump into the woman. The man is a miserable old git. The woman is nice enough. Grin

SausageSmuggler · 30/09/2015 20:09

I sometimes wonder what I'd do if my DC's started talking to things that aren't there. I know I freaked my mum out when I was younger because I was told her that my bedroom was haunted. I was so adamant that she started to wonder herself. It centred around my dolls house which was on top of my wardrobe. At the time I had a high cabin bed directly opposite the wardrobe and I had to have the dollhouse curtains closed because I convinced myself I'd see faces in the windows. One night one of the pairs were wide open! I'm sure I hadn't done it because I needed my parents to get it down/put it back up and I hadn't played with it for a while. I did have quite an overactive imagination as a child though so who knows!

Nonnainglese · 30/09/2015 20:13

Frankie I'd welcome one that puts on the washing!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 30/09/2015 20:16

Frankie, would your laundry helping ghostie, like to come to my lighthouse and help me with my washing, my ghost is very friendly but he isn't as helpful as yours. , plus he can keep my ghost companyGrin

dustarr73 · 30/09/2015 20:44

My aunt lived in a house that belonged to her husbands parents. They where both dead[the pils not the aunt]Grin

Anyway there was an old coalhouse in the kitchen and the mil used to put her pots and pans up there. When my aunt moved in,she would come back from teh school and find the pots and pans in the coalhouse.

MagicDucky · 30/09/2015 20:52

When my mum was a child, my gran had sent the kids off to school and was doing the house work. She was up in my uncles bedroom making his bed and felt like there was someone standing behind her, when she looked there was nobody there. This happened a few times until eventually she felt a breeze and someone whispered "God giveth God taketh away"

That night my uncle was in a tragic accident.
