Today I bought my first ever pony. My own! I’ve had shares and loans etc but never ever had my own. I’m BURSTING with excitement and happiness. My children are not in the slightest bit interested, I’ve already burbled at the one friend I have who is interested, so now I’m telling you !

I bought a pony !!!

Well now! We need names, height, and what your intentions are! hacking, showing? Please tell me all as I am so so so jealous!

Jealous jealous jealous.

Chocolatecakeandcoffee · 17/11/2020 18:20

Yay! He looks so lovely! What’s his name and what is he like? I’m getting a horse next year and I’m super excited!!

ChristmasTsimmes · 17/11/2020 18:22

I am aching with jealousy. :) Cannot wait to hear the details! [hint hint] :)

CupboardMonster · 17/11/2020 18:25

A beautiful pony all of your own @Lilybetsey how brilliant, congratulations! It is my dream.

Specialgodson · 17/11/2020 18:26

How completely exciting, what a particularly lovely one too! We are on the lookout for one ourselves and are they more expensive at the moment like dogs I wonder?! As hope not!

Lilybetsey · 17/11/2020 18:31

She is a 10 year old warmblood, she is called Fifi. She is 14.2 which is just exactly what I wanted (I am only 5’2) she will be on part livery at a lovely stables near (15 mins) from my home.

I have wanted my own pony since I was 12, I’m now 55 .... it’s a real dream.

What will we do ? She can do everything, she jumps like a stag, can do a great dressage tests, has been hunting and showjumping. I’m going to build it up. I’m competent, but I need some lessons to get me jumping again. So we will hack out, have lessons, I will learn to jump again and next winter we will go hunting !

She is beautiful

Lilybetsey · 17/11/2020 18:33

To me she was not that expensive, when I see 4 year old Connemara for £5-7,000 I feel I have a bargain. But my friend, who is not currently looking, sucked her teeth a bit, still I got the saddle as well for free!

Congrats OP, she looks lovely. What a pretty colour

Specialgodson Unfortunately yes, just like dogs prices massively went up over lockdown and haven't (yet) returned to normality - the below thread discusses but in short if you are looking atm you need deep pockets and/or be prepared to compromise! As OP has shown there are still reasonably pried horses out there you just may need to be more patient

Congratulations op! She is lovely! I hope you have some lovely times together.

Is she ok hacking out alone? Or do you go with others?

KnitsAndGiggles · 17/11/2020 18:53

Aw she's beautiful congrats op!

Lilybetsey · 17/11/2020 18:57

She is fine hacking alone, great to catch, shoe & clip. She will travel in trailer or box ... I cannot wait till she arrives now !

Fantastic! You've done really well finding her! Just what you need during a pandemic!
tiredvommachine · 17/11/2020 19:01

Congratulations! You are actually living my dream Grin

FundamentallyFucked · 17/11/2020 19:08

She sounds like an absolute star, I hope you have many happy times together.

I lost my furry field ornament a few years ago and i still think of him when I am upset - I used to go to the stables and hug him when I was sad!!

Lilybetsey · 17/11/2020 19:08

I was very lucky, the dealer I bought her from is a friend of a friend and thus I know her to be trustworthy. Honestly I could not buy a pony from just anyone, because I couldn’t be sure I would see any problems.

I had to take the day off work and rush to see her because there were several others interested .... but it was so worth it !

@FundamentallyFucked, I’m very sorry for your loss. It must be heartbreaking

It was very hard at the time, and I still miss the comfort, but I cannot lie about the cold winter mornings when I wake up at 7am instead of 5:30 and I don't have to rush out to feed and muck out Grin

PostmanSpaff · 17/11/2020 19:28

Fifi! What a gorgeous name and a gorgeous girl. I hope you are very happy together she looks a real gem.

Ccccchanges · 17/11/2020 23:57

Oooooh congratulations!

I saw a couple of videos of this pony online she looks absolutely gorgeous! Good luck and keep us updated Flowers

Pleasedontdothat · 18/11/2020 08:25

@Lilybetsey she’s gorgeous - I hope you have many years of fun together

Horse prices have gone a bit bonkers and have still not calmed down - more fashionable types in particular are selling really fast. We’re going for a second viewing this weekend and I’ve been on tenterhooks all week worrying that the seller’s going to say she’s already been sold. We’ve seen ads, booked viewings but before we’ve managed to get there the horse has been sold. I don’t know how people have the time to race up and down the country to view horses at the drop of a hat - we can only do weekends as I have to work and dd is at school Hmm.

lilybetsy · 18/11/2020 08:35

@Pleasedontdothat - Its much harder when you are buying for a child as you have to be sure its safe - so you need a second viewing ...

I put a non refundable deposit on this pony to hold her for 48 hours & begged for a day off work ...I only did that because I knew the dealer was honest and the pony would be as described, and I was pretty certain (95% ) I would buy her ...

so stressful for you - I hope all goes well next weekend !
