Today I bought my first ever pony. My own! I’ve had shares and loans etc but never ever had my own. I’m BURSTING with excitement and happiness. My children are not in the slightest bit interested, I’ve already burbled at the one friend I have who is interested, so now I’m telling you !

I bought a pony !!!

Beautiful very jealous

Littlepiggiesinblankets · 18/11/2020 10:08

She is beautiful! I am looking for another and she sounds just like what I'm looking for and I know the prices for a good all-rounder are through the roof, but let's face it, if you wanted to make a sound investment, you wouldn't buy a horse Grin

ApplestheHare · 18/11/2020 10:26

She's gorgeous! Keep us updated. So happy for you. My aim is to get my own in 10 years when my dds are more independent!

lobsteroll · 18/11/2020 10:28

She's a beauty! Love her name too. Sounds like she's a great all rounder and you'll have lots of fun with her 🥰

Pleasedontdothat · 18/11/2020 10:43

@Lilybetsey she’s a teenager looking for a competition horse so our ideas about what’s safe and suitable don’t always align Confused but I’ve insisted on a second viewing with her instructor even if that means missing out on what looks like the perfect one ...

MrsMiaWallis · 18/11/2020 11:10

She's very pretty, her back end looks a bit crook in that photo but you've seen her in the flesh so I'm sure she's fine. Enjoy!

HappyGirlNow · 18/11/2020 23:18

Always one... 🙄

HappyGirlNow · 18/11/2020 23:18

She’s lovely, congratulations 💕

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 18/11/2020 23:23

Oh how beautiful is she!

I’m thrilled for you, you sound beyond excited and I’m sure she’s going to make a great pony for you.

MrsMiaWallis · 19/11/2020 08:11

Years of looking at horse's confirmation I'm afraid.
Chocolatecakeandcoffee · 19/11/2020 08:40

You may bean expert but saying this, when someone has already bought a horse, is mean. It will just make them feel bad!!

MrsMiaWallis · 19/11/2020 08:45

Apologies.

lilybetsy · 19/11/2020 09:34

The pony is absolutely fine - I see what you mean about the photo but I assure you that is an artefact due to the uneven ground :-)

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 19/11/2020 09:36

I really am excited for you! I desperately wanted a pony when I was a child...

I’d love an account of going to get her (or will she be delivered?) settling her in and your first few weeks with her! 😊😊😊

Good! I had a pony with a twisted pelvis once and he cost me a fortune in shoeing and physio. Hope you have lots of fun with her.
HappyGirlNow · 19/11/2020 13:57

MrsMiaWallis also being rude AF on the horse naming thread.. 🙄 is this how you like to pass your time?

lilybetsy · 19/11/2020 16:06

@HollyandIvyandallthingsYule The first thing I would put on such a blog is the STUFF . She comes with her saddle but noting else. Wading my way through what rugs I need, what size headcoller, brushing boots and bridle/ How long should the stirrup leathers be ( I know how to measure with my arm but how much IS that when you are buying on line) she's 14'2 - is she a pony or a horse ? what size saddle cloths and on and on and on !!! And of course what F**king colour ! once you decide on a favourite colour its out of stock !!

and then the decisions ... what do I want to feed her ? what kind of bed do I want ?? do I want her shod front only - or all 4 feet;

my mind is blown with decision making and researching madly before I make decisions ... Its all hugely exciting but just a little stressful.

I've gone with relatively basic stuff except for a really snug (read expensive) premier equine turnout rug ...

Rollingpiglet · 19/11/2020 16:14

How exciting, when does she arrive?

lilybetsy · 19/11/2020 16:19

on Saturday morning ;-)

Sounds great, and sounds just like I would be like were I in your shoes today...

I’ve heard tell of many people whose horses are better dressed and more carefully fed than they themselves are! Grin

Please do keep us regularly updated on this thread! With photos! 👍

I could say the same to you!
Ingridla · 19/11/2020 21:28

She a beauty, I'm thrilled for you and a teensy bit jealous!

lilybetsy · 20/11/2020 12:21

@Ingridla I know, I have felt that jealousy quite a few times before ! I very much doubt I will ever buy another horse so I'm just enjoying this and really allowing myself to be excited and consumed and happy !

Ccccchanges · 26/11/2020 14:43

How’s it all going @lilybetsy? Have you had a fun first few weeks?

lilybetsy · 26/11/2020 15:36

@Ccccchanges, thank you for asking. Its been amazing ! Ive had her since Saturday. She's settled really well and after one day in a individual turnout field she is now in the big field with all the other mares. She seems very content and comes to me now when I call her (probably because she knows I'm likely to have a carrot)
I went on a lovely hack on Sunday with her and she was great, no issues with traffic or noises or anything really. Tuesday I rode in the school and popped a couple of small jumps and yesterday I had my first lesson for year. That made a big difference, correcting some of my faults she went really well - balanced and her rhythm improved.
I feel SO lucky - all the staff at the yard are lovely and I've met some of the other livery owners who seem friendly.
I couldnt be happier really - all is just great :-)
