Today I bought my first ever pony. My own! I’ve had shares and loans etc but never ever had my own. I’m BURSTING with excitement and happiness. My children are not in the slightest bit interested, I’ve already burbled at the one friend I have who is interested, so now I’m telling you !

Fifi’s beautiful and sounds absolutely perfect for you to have great fun and a wonderful time on. Enjoy.

That is really lovely to hear! I’m so glad everything is going well for you!

Have you got any plans for the future with her? BS or BE or similar? Or just having fun?

I’m a little bit chuffed with myself at the moment as I jumped a 1.10m spread last night for the first time on my share horse Grin (Not to derail the thread, sorry, just wanted to tell some other horsey people!)

@LivingMyBestLifeNOT. what a lovely photo, Pipkin looks lovely :-)

This morning there were a few more naughty behaviours _ I think she's just testing the boundaries / my ability - suddenly the bridge we crossed without incident on Sunday was super scary, a car was a monster and going away from the yard was not exactly what she had in mind! She settled once I have been firm and the rest of our ride passed without incident! ponies are funny ! I dropped my phone whilst looking at the OS map this morning ( thank God it didn't break) and I was SO glad I bought a 14'2 pony when I had to get back on without a mounting block !

Definitely testing the boundaries - she is a pony after all, far cheekier than horses Wink. Good to hear you persevered... and didn’t break your phone!

Congratulations! I saw her adverts and she is beautiful but looked very whizzy jumping, how are you finding her with that?

lilybetsy · 08/12/2020 12:19

she is whizzy when jumping in the school, we have a little work to do there :-) but she's not nasty, just excited ... and she's fine popping over logs etc out hacking ....

I thought I would write a little update. Its now almost 2 months since my lovely pony arrived and I am still very happy with her. I have learned a LOT with fantastic support and advice from the yard where she is on part livery.

I have been having lessons weekly and am relearning to balance my seat, after a scary incident when Fifi took off with me in the school and fell over as I turned her. Obviously I fell too: she was fine, I broke a couple of ribs. :-( I think that steadied me rather and instead of thinking that because she can jump, that I can too, I've gone back to more basic schooling / balancing working on transitions. The efforts are paying off and I am much more balanced and controlled now.

I've had her shod on all 4 feet after trying fronts only, but she definitely had sore feet and is much happier with four shoes. I have had the saddler to adjust her saddle which has really helped and I've spent a small fortune on 'kit' !

The best part is building a bond with her, feeling like she's pleased to see me, knows me and will look after me. Washing her legs in warm water last weekend (it was freezing) because I know she dislikes cold water ... I love her lots and I'm so enjoying her .. worth the wait :-)

Mysa74 · 26/01/2021 12:44

I'mm so glad you're happy OP... Hope the ribs heal soon!

You're going to have so much fun the spring/summer will be (once you stop worrying about flie, the heat, too much grass/lami risk) Grin
