You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

That's a hard one, it sounds like classic "stimming" but one that really disrupts the room.

Have you spoken to home about whether bit happens elsewhere?

God I am so tired. Properly bone tired. Had a full teaching day, duties and yr11 assessment. Pizza and wine tonight. The marking will have to wait until I am able to process more than simple thoughts.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/05/2021 20:19

Pizza and a nice chablis here too.

I'm going to have to up something for him.

Today marks my 100 days without sugar. Tomorrow, brownie and icecream with caramel sauce, then back on no sugar. Boringly, it just works for me.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/05/2021 20:20

Oh, home for my lad think that his spirit animal is an Alpha Romeo, and that there is nothing going on.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/05/2021 20:28

Tricky, rule....

Lancs schools to keep masks

StationView · 14/05/2021 20:36

My school, and those nearby, are keeping masks. Not Lancashire, but the local area had the highest infection rate in England at the end of April.

HarrietDVane · 14/05/2021 20:39

So tired tonight. Pizza here too but I've resisted wine. I ought to be deep marking a set of extended writes but instead I'm catatonic on the sofa. I want to get them done before I have my vaccine tomorrow just in case I have any side effects. I'm intrigued to know which jab I'll be getting!

Monkeytennis97 · 14/05/2021 20:43

DH so knackered he fell asleep at 5.30 this afternoon. I'm not far behind him. Come on half term! No idea when yr 11 and 13 are going.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/05/2021 20:47

That's, erm, helpful Rule.

Hayfever might not be a bad shout, actually. It does sound like it might be 'stimming' to deal with some sort of sensory overload from somewhere, but worth seeing if you can get the parents to rule hayfever out.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/05/2021 20:50

@Cracklefraggle we did until a couple of years ago. Now we’re called something different and work as a T&L team across the whole school with less focus on our own departments.

Timeturnerplease · 14/05/2021 21:11

He makes a really gutteral sort of HUHHHGH noise every 2 minutes or so. Loud, quite short, but noticeable enough to a) get the other ASC kids copying him, and b) be incredibly distracting for everyone. He has no diagnosis, no support, just me. Presumably it's sensory, something throat-y and quite pressurised from his diaphragm

I have one of these, though he is finally going for his first consultation next week re autism. His is more word based though; he picks up on a word he likes the sound of, then repeats on a continual loop using different intonations. For one horrendous week it was the Peppa Pig theme tune 🤦🏻‍♀️

We’ve tried everything - fiddle toys, resistance bands, wobble cushion, movement breaks, sensory circuits. If you find a fix, please let me know!

piggy here’s some info on the South Northants school cases of Indian variant - all in one Towcester primary

Interesting not linked to travel...

ValancyRedfern · 14/05/2021 21:52

My school is keeping masks. I'd happily get rid myself as rates are so low where we are, but the Head is very cautious.

HarrietDVane · 14/05/2021 22:00

DD2's school have sent an email saying the children should no longer wear masks at any time on school grounds. DD isn't happy; she would prefer to keep them.

DD1's school is keeping them in corridors but not classrooms.

I'm in primary so didn't have masks in the first place.

DollyMixtureLulus · 14/05/2021 22:07

I am struggling with my mask now. We started wearing them in August and it's just so uncomfortable.

Glasgow's cases are still high. We're T3 for another week .

Doesn't help that our SENCO has only been in school for one day since 8th March due to mental health issues. We think. We don't really know.
MrsHamlet · 14/05/2021 22:19

Soooooooo tired. Can someone please stop time so I can mark my essays, moderate 3 sets belong to other people, prep a presentation, and sleep ... all before Monday.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/05/2021 22:22

Timeturner maybe Mrs H?

We've got masks are now longer advised in school by the government but those who wish to still wear them may do so.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 14/05/2021 23:16

Evening all. Happy Friday to anyone still awake.

Dh's school have said that y11 will leave at half term but in t6 staff have to teach them online again. Full timetable. Live lessons. Does this count as most insane SLT decision of the week?

Yes, it does. And that's really saying something after the week we all seem to have had!

That is completely bonkers!! Ours are leaving at half term. Any coming back to sixth form have an induction week after half term but then they're gone. One of mine, who isn't coming back for sixth form, has just signed a contract for an apprenticeship starting mid June. So he has 2/3 weeks break between finishing school and starting work. He can't wait!! I don't think any of our year 11s would attend any online lessons. Not even the nicest, most dedicated kids would do that!

Teach them what?

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 14/05/2021 23:55

Who knows? He will be teaching into an empty void. He seems to be in denial about it at the moment. He is too busy drowning in tags to worry about it...yet.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/05/2021 05:01

Do hope no one else is awake now....
Emergency SAGE report published about the Indian variant, explains why Boris said what he did yesterday evening. Not good. Step Four would be a very bad idea. Step Three not a great one.
Sorry cba to link at this time of night but there’s a new thread on it and I guess it will be in the news in the morning.
