You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Our prom is always at school so, thankfully, a non starter.

MrsHamlet · 21/05/2021 17:05

Year 11 and 13 have gone!!!!!
We're having proms for both which sounds insane to me, but what do I know?!

MrsHamlet · 21/05/2021 17:07

mrsHP
She's up and down.... bad reaction to the last chemo saw her back in hospital, and she's struggling with not being able to do anything, and feeling pathetic. It's all just shit :(

MsAwesomeDragon · 21/05/2021 17:17

We never organise a prom for y11, they always arrange it themselves. I don't think any of them have bothered this year. There's no talk about it at school, which I would normally expect. We normally have a y13 leavers dinner, which teachers are involved with and are invited to. That's not happening this year, which is a shame as I'd have liked to go to this one. I've taught some of these kids for 8 years (there are 2 that I taught for 9 years actually). There are 8 of my year 13s that I first met in year 5/6 doing outreach with the primaries.

Mother that's so nice of them.

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/05/2021 17:26

@MrsHamlet that’s so tough. Hope now exam years have gone for you that’s one less stress for you.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/05/2021 17:33

All day DT. Hahaaaaargh... no one finished, lots of crying. I did a lot of laughing AT them too. They can't tie knots for toffee.

Chippy tea.

Have def got a cold. All the snot! Kids starting to sniff and hack at school - first time in 14 months. It's kind of weird to hear.

I read that as "All day DTD"

We have our 11s until tbe end of June! Personalised timetables based on ks5 courses and careers. Not full time though and more scope if some want to work / work experience.

We are legally responsible for them until 25th June and our LEA are monitoring - apparently.

That’s interesting re the legal responsibility!
Cracklefraggle · 21/05/2021 18:27

It's the official leaving date from the dfe. Open to interpretation though - like everything from dfe for the past 14 months!

I've reported that very odd thread that has appeared in the Staffroom.

Hope you've all had good days - off to catch up now.

JanFebAnyMonth · 21/05/2021 18:32

But hey can be given something like study leave, just as in a normal year? Our Y11 left today, after black and gold balloons and ice cream. Not sure if the young lady who ended in in iso was allowed to join in. I heard HoY mention “contraband”....

So my DD turned 16 and left compulsory school today. Shock

motherrunner · 21/05/2021 18:37

Oh no @HarrietDVane. I want to see how it turns out 😆

ArnottsUnderpass · 21/05/2021 18:38

Happy Friday everyone.

Fiiiiinally finished marking yr11 and 13 assessments. Hallelujah. Tonight is all about wine, pizza and a long bath with a sheet mask. Can hardly string coherent sentences together, I'm so tired. Even the deputy head did a little jump for joy in the corridor at the end of the day!!!

HarrietDVane · 21/05/2021 18:39

Shock at the school closures - I'm not surprised that cases have taken off, just horrified that it's happening and my fears have been confirmed. We have quite a lot out awaiting test results but no bubble closures yet.

Jan - What are DD's plans for September? Was it your DD who was thinking about law? (Sorry if I've got that wrong).

I reported it, no can do was the reply. It’s oddly familiar posting style

Yay! Enjoy your evening. I've cracked and texted dh to visit the chippy on his way home.

Nice day actually, mostly revision lessons so not too much prep to do. Had a 45 minute duty outside in the freezing rain though. Still plenty of kids out and potential for things to kick off between year groups. One week till half term.

HarrietDVane · 21/05/2021 18:42

Mother - I'm sorry Grin It isn't as entertaining as some of the others we've seen though - and it has the strongest whiff of Us4Ourselves about it.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2021 18:43

Just on the local news that the school that closed in my town had several staff quite ill, including a young one in hospital.

HarrietDVane · 21/05/2021 18:51

That's awful, Piggy Sad

namechangedyetagain · 21/05/2021 19:06

I've made a student teacher error of not buying nearly enough wine for tonight.

Bloody hell it's been a week. I'm knackered. I really need to get my essay moving. Likewise my evidence folder.

It feels like pregnancy. I've been waiting so long and now suddenly the end is near. I feel like I'm doing the final pushing stages. Only just like it was with my DS I'm exhausted, it's painful, taking all my energy, fucking hard work and seems never ending.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 21/05/2021 19:50

We have our Year 11 and 13 until mid - June but attendance is already falling

No sign of Bob today since he was spotted having a can at the bottom of the playground. He was thirsty apparently 😂

Urgh today's weather sent our children wild (what is it about wind?!) Otherwise its been an OK week but am definitely on the half term countdown (4 days to go!).

Piggy anymore cases in your DS school?

JanFebAnyMonth · 21/05/2021 19:59

Hope that weird link works. CDC research finds that school mask-wearing cuts infections by 37%, ventilation by 35% (or thereabouts)
