You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

@noblegiraffe

My last lesson with my Y13s is just before their final assessment. They want to play the Pirate Game.

We are not playing the Pirate Game.

You meany!! I'm playing the pirate game with my y13 on their last lesson. Of course, I have my last lesson the day after their last assessment, so I'm at a loss to what else I'm supposed to do with them Confused. They've also asked for Caterpillar cake, so it looks like we're pretty much having a party that day.
DanglingMod · 19/05/2021 07:42

Yeah, we used it to baseline Yr 7, 8 and 9 and it chucked our some odd rankings.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 07:47

That's a worry as we are using it for TAGs!

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/05/2021 07:52

Cake!! You’ll be giving them chairs (unsawn ones) next!!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/05/2021 07:59

Oh no!! Not chairs!! All my chairs are wobbly and they often have to try every chair in the room to find one they're happy to sit on Hmm

Confused
DanglingMod · 19/05/2021 08:08

They explain it as it depending entirely on the order the scripts come through in as ti how reliable it is.

In GCSE grade terms, if a script worth roughly a grade 3 persistently comes up after a script worth a 1/2, the marker will keep upticking the grade 3 script until it becomes a 5.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 08:12

Well, this is what I was worried about. And I kept getting two grade 8s side by side which made me worry about downgrading.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 08:13

One of my own boys came up once. he was a good script but was next to a better one so he lost out. If that keeps happening to him he will fall down the rankings. Not sure if our huge year groups make it more reliable or less,

DanglingMod · 19/05/2021 08:18

Are you then moderating the results? Eg, this kid is definitely an 8, not a 6...?

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 08:20

Well, sort of. But we won't have looked at our own class's scripts to do that. We are CJing 1/2 and marking half of the assessments.

It is meant to be a workload saver. Hollow laugh.

DanglingMod · 19/05/2021 08:21

It really isn't.

DanglingMod · 19/05/2021 08:23

Presently not using this for your other subjects? Grin

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 08:23

Nope!

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 08:24

When I mark my own classes obviously I instinctively rank order but I also have an overview of what is going on...

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 08:25

Calling it 'No More Marking' needs to be challenged under the Trades Descriptions Act!

DanglingMod · 19/05/2021 08:45

It totally does.

motherrunner · 19/05/2021 08:58

We’re moderating all evidence folders after half term - like in the good old coursework days!

Gained time? Who needs it!

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 09:02

More cases at DS's school. Indian Variant is assumed. Think they ought to check whole school??

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/05/2021 09:20

Err yes piggy! Has the surge testing mentioned on Monday by Matty H appeared yet??

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 09:25

Not til next week I think. Schools in other areas had whole communities tested so not sure why not his. Thankfully his is only sixth form so it may get better when y13 leave. although they are v good at segregating years anyway.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 09:52

Indian Variant letter just gone out in my LA. No masks though. That'll be coming, I am guessing.

Saw three members of SLT in corridors yesterday. All maskless.

MrsHamlet · 19/05/2021 10:14

They definitely need to check the whole school if they've had several cases. In the same yeargroup? Or in a few different yeargroups?
Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 11:17

Two : year 12 and 13 ie whole intake of school (it's an annexe to main school)

They are PCR testing contacts, have been for a while.
